The Prophetic John Birch Society
Probably no other conservative organization or individual has been more maligned and misrepresented over the past 50 years than the John Birch Society and its irrepressible founder, Robert Welch. They were before their time in many ways.
Moonbattery.com featured a piece on the JBS and Welch which highlighted how prophetic and insightful they were as far back as 1958 when the JBS was founded.
Among those insightful warnings to America were Welch’s remonstrances on government waste, wild spending, higher and higher taxes, runaway inflation, imbalanced budgets, socialistic wage, price, and materials controls, centralization of power, control of education, an emphasis on peace at any price, and surrender at any cost.
After a mere 14 months in office, Obama hasn’t accomplished all those goals but he’s well on his way.

I've seen dozens of messages like yours which claim that the JBS has been "misrepresented", "maligned" or "smeared" etc. etc. but folks like you never discuss the THOUSANDS of people and organizations whom the JBS maligned and smeared. Nor do you discuss the libel lawsuits which the JBS and its surrogates have lost.
When you state that the JBS has been "insightful", it must be because you have never carefully examined the contradictory evidence. Instead, you focus exclusively upon whatever data you think supports whatever the JBS believes and you studiously ignore anything which falsifies JBS premises and conclusions.
For a beginning, I suggest you review the following 88-page report which is based, primarily, upon first-time-released FBI documents and investigative files.

Since both Welch the JBS effusively praised J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI as our nation's most knowledgeable, authoritative and reliable source of factual information about the communist movement (as well as on what constituted effective anti-communist activities), you now have a chance to compare JBS assertions and conclusions to FBI investigations. More often than not, the FBI invalidated JBS conclusions.
Lastly, the most potent critics of the JBS have been prominent conservatives -- including former JBS members and officials, plus giants within the conservative intellectual and political communities such as Russell Kirk, Sen. Barry Goldwater, James Burnham, Frank Meyer, Eugene Lyons, Gen. Albert Wedemeyer, etc.
