Never, EVER, Again!

Years ago, the extremist Jewish Defense League adopted a catchphrase to denote their refusal to ever allow a repetition of the horror of the Nazi Holocaust which claimed the lives of some 6,000,000 Jewish lives : Never again! The JDL may be extreme but that slogan is anything but.

The slogan should be adopted with equivalent vehemence by the government of the United States and, if our government refuses to publicly proclaim the motto, “Never again!” in response to potential future holocausts such as those committed against America on September 11th, 2001, Americans should rise up and demand it be incorporated into our national foreign and domestic policies.

Subsequent attacks on our homeland could make what happened to the Jews seem like a minor blip in the history of humanity’s carnage.

Extreme? In a little-publicized comment, President Barack Hussein Obama concurred with America’s resident Muslim quisling, Fareed Zakaria, that the United States could “bounce back” even from terrorist nuclear attacks on our cities since we are so “resilient.”

There exists a common, mostly Christian, belief that good people should “forgive those who trespass” against them.

“Trespassing” can mean many things from intruding on our property to violating national borders with the intent of doing us harm; forgiving can refer to pardoning those who insult us to sparing the lives of those who murder Americans either on our soil or in a just war.

General Norman Schwarzkopf, retired commander of coalition forces in the first Persian Gulf War, succinctly reflected on the latter by saying, “Forgiveness is up to God. I just hope we hurry up the meeting.”

Allah may forgive Islamists. It’s doubtful a true God would, . . .

While the vast majority of Americans are intensely proud of Navy SEAL Team 6 for its successful mission last Sunday and happy, if not universally ecstatic, over its results, Europeans have been largely mute over the mission’s success or demonstrably angry over American impertinence in what they consider a violation of the air space and territorial integrity of a sovereign state and which many contend involved a summary execution of an un-armed man.

There’s no question that Team 6 did indeed infringe on Pakistan’s national boundaries, which boundaries are more porous than America’s southern border, and that nation itself is less a nation than it is a sanctuary for terrorist enemies of the United States–and of Europe.

Whether Osama bin Laden was in fact un-armed or had an AK47 or other weapon in easy reach is still unclear, and irrelevant. What is known is that he was a declared, vicious enemy and his compound was a virtual fortress with high walls topped by barbed wire and that he had armed guards protecting him.

It’s easy to second guess what the SEALs should have done in the heat, the fog, of battle, to Monday-morning-quarterback a perilous military operation since none of us were there, on-site, with those brave men. All volunteers in the service of their country, they were risking their lives to execute a mission deemed critical to America’s–and Europe’s–interests and safety.

Europeans, however, feel free to do just that, to judge the propriety of the assault and to condemn Osama’s killing. . .

When Islamic and Christian Worlds Collide

A good, general blogging rule of thumb is that when two sides of a controversial issue criticize you, it’s fairly certain an article was reasonable and objective.

I’ve had more than my share of brickbats and worse hurled my way by the Jewish community for commentary on such issues as the 1967 USS Liberty “incident” and, more recently, for articles on Judge Richard Goldstone’s U.N. Report on Israel’s actions in the Gaza War of 2008-2009. Therefore, I consider it a compliment when a Muslim sympathizer also attacks my objectivity.

A reader of my article, “Islam, the U.N., and 9/11,” http://bit.ly/gVLLxL, responded to my re-posting of that piece on CNSNews.com and “ithinkrevolution” was positively vitriolic. His screenname says a great deal about “ithinkrevolution’s” mindset and his comments says a great deal about his biases and skewed interpretation of history.

I wasn’t perturbed by his condescension, (“Before you make such a comment though you should read a bit more”) and his defense of the United Nations, (“The UN is not authorized to investigate such a matter”), as much as by “ithinkrevolution’s” free and breezy willingness to engage in Islamic revisionism.

The premises of “Islam, the U.N., and 9/11″ were the stultification of the United Nations, which has been evidenced so often it barely needs repetition, but primarily the effects of that uselessness and ineptitude on the U.N.’s ability to condemn Islamic terrorism or even to define terrorism almost 10 years after September 11th, 2001. The 57 members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the OIC, compounded by the sympathies and fear of other U.N. member states have seen to that.

“Ithinkrevolution” took issue with that contention but was particularly incensed over a critique of Islam’s violence and went on a roll: ”And as far as your ‘Islamic nations are historically accustomed to mass murder, religious mayhem, unimaginable bloody atrocities’, I hope your [sic] not a Christian who has the balls [sic] to make such a statement.” [Editor's note, I am and I do.] The history of Christianity is much more bloody and horrible than Islam is. The deaths in the Middle East since the creation of Israel. [sic] Until the Allies rolled in and forced tens of thousands of people out of homes their people| had lived in for nearly 2000 years. [sic]“

As rebuttal, I would point to the facts that Islam was born in violence replete with murders and bloody massacres, grew into invasions and pillaging, and reached its Golden Age through inflicting systematic devastation on the regions and nations it conquered. And, yes, it’s true that Christian armies in the Crusades . . .

Islamic nations are historically accustomed to mass murder, religious mayhem, unimaginable bloody atrocities. That’s the only explanation and not a defense for the fact the last, best hope for a peaceful world, the United Nations, has failed not only to condemn the unprovoked terrorist, sneak attack on America almost ten years ago but to even arrive at a definition of terrorism.

The U.N. is quite capable of declaring an international Earth Day or to pass toothless resolutions against Saddam Hussein and Israeli aggression but to define or take action against the worldwide Islamic war against the West? That doesn’t pass muster or qualify for official condemnation or even meaningless sanctions.

The reason? Aside from the United Nation’s established corruption, proven ineptitude, and ingrained stultification, the primary reason the U.N. can’t get around to condemning September 11th, 2001 as the acts of terrorists or get to the subject of defining terrorism is the resistance of the OIC, the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The OIC, a collection of 57 Islamic states–a number which happens to coincide with the number of American states our president says he visited during the 2008 campaign–refuses to approve . . .

The “terror gaffe” committed by Clapper was far less a gaffe than a horrifying instance of proof that, with all the billions spent by our government to secure America’s safety and security, we’re about as safe and secure as we were on the morning of September 11th, 2001, or less so. This despite national security adiviser John Brennan’s reassurance that, “We are in much better position today than we were last year at this time,” which in itself is scary.

Cause for trepidation over the security of our national security is not simply rooted in consistent and persistent lapses at airports. When National Intelligence Chief Clapper freely, unashamedly, admitted his obliviousness concerning the disruption of a major terrorist plot in London and the arrest of a dozen terrorist suspects, he could not even be granted a pass due to what could indelicately be termed a brain fart.

When asked by ABC News’ Diane Sawyer about his thoughts concerning those arrests, Clapper in effect responded by mumbling ala Tweety Bird, ”London? What? Terrorists? Where? When? Do you see a cat? I don’t see a cat.” Deer in headlights show more awareness.

The most unsettling aspect of Clapper’s ignorance of an event that was of major import to our national security was not even his bewilderment at the question or his desperately looking to Brennan to bail him out but rather in the spontaneous cover up by his fellow experts and by the White House . . .

As the Brits haul in slews of terrorists and the Western world prepares for anticipated terrorist attacks during the holidays and as we observe the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist massacre over Lockerbie, Scotland, Attorney General Eric Holder gave an interview on terrorism.

“He doesn’t seem to be pulling any punches.” “Remarkably candid and quite blunt.”

Those interview assessments by ABC’s George Stephanopoulis and Pierre Thomas, respectively, are both reflective of what’s grievously wrong with Holder and the lapdog mainstream media that cover him and this administration.

At first listen, the AG appears justifiably concerned over the “terrorist threat” faced by the United States. Just the thought keeps him up at night, the same thought that many other officials have already said keeps them up at night.

As he says, “What I am trying to do in this interview is to make people aware of the fact that the threat is real, the threat is different, the threat is constant,” thereby apprising the American public of realities most already know, and issuing a CYA alert for when the threats come to fruition.

“What was uppermost on his mind, however, is the alarming rise in the number of Americans who are more than willing to attack and kill their fellow citizens,” http://tiny.cc/tj3rj, another fact of life of which any thinking American has been well aware for a good while.

Holder’s “wide-ranging” interview fails to range even remotely into the realm of just whom these terrorists actually are, namely, Muslims, Islamic fanatics, the specific threat to America’s safety, security, and survival. Not once in his wide-ranging, no punch-pulled, candid, blunt interview does he mention that detail.

That failure to acknowledge the Islamic jihad against the West has become a sick joke with the Obama administration. For some reason, the president and his minions such as Holder have long been loathe to identify the specific nature of the threat we face.

Conjecture that the reason is related to Obama’s Muslim roots, to fear of alienating our “allies,” to bowing and scraping to all things and individuals Islamic, is usually greeted by the adminstration and its MSM lackeys as evidence of gross bigotry against “people of color” and irrefutable proof of ignorance and mindless fear of people who may be “different,” people we simply misunderstand.

Here’s a clue, Messrs Holder and Obama: We understand them all too well . . .

The Insanity Goes On: America and Terrorism

Einstein’s now-famous theory of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, is in process of being proven as valid as his equally-famous theory of relativity and the leaders of Western civilization are its most proficient proponents.

America’s and the West’s policy toward Islamic terrorism and terrorists, if indeed it can seriously be considered policy, is fundamentally, and insanely, flawed and reactionary: We wait, they do something, we react. It can be reduced in equivalency to the advice many practical parents give to their sons when they are the victims of school bullies: If he hits you, hit him back or else he will continue to hit you, or worse.

Other parents instruct their kidlets to go tell a teacher or tell an administrator or tell it on some mountain, all of which tactics invariably result in Little Johnny being ostracized, labeled a snitch, being bloodied even more by the bully’s buddies and/or by the bully himself off schoolgrounds in a dark alley.

The chief problem for America and the West with employing either of those approaches is that America and the West aren’t being threatened by some snotnosed kid out to make a schoolyard name for himself or merely acting out some psychological issues. Radical Islamists are certainly out to make a name for themselves and are acting out of a deep-seated and perverted visceral fury, intermixed with a disturbed religious fervor, but their aims go far beyond those of a bully.

Their intent is not to bloody noses but to maim and murder Americans and Western Europeans, to destroy our basic institutions and the societies in which those Americans and Western Europeans live, and to establish a new, world, Islamic-sharia-Koranic order. And there is no one we can turn to to ”tell on” them.

Yet, as seen in the case of the recent Stockholm bombing and the multiple attempts to execute mass mayhem in the United States, from the “Underwear Bomber” last Christmas to the Portland “Holiday Bomber” last week, we patiently wait and wait and wait.

We seem to be waiting for another 9/11, or worse . . .

I’ve always enjoyed Hagar the Horrible, the rumpled, glutinous, fierce Viking warrior of the eponymous comic strip who, despite his highly profitable pillaging of England, is most often unappreciated by his Valkyrie-esque wife, Helga, who persistently nags him for his poor etiquette even when he returns home with multiple enemy arrows rotruding from his person.

Back when, way back when in the late eighth to the mid-eleventh centuries, during the hey-day of the Viking Age, their and Hagar’s forebears didn’t give a rat’s ass about the sensitivities of their enemies–who were just about everyone. Today, those intrepid Norsemen of modern-day Sweden don’t seem to think or operate that way.

Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have been rendered into shadows of their former Viking selves, Hagars without all those protruding arrows, committed to their socialistic societies, enjoying life to the fullest, praying to Odin and Thor that the modern world with all its attendant violence and terrorism will just pass them by and leave them to their Ikean pleasures.

Another Day that May Live in Infamy Part One

Almost 70 years ago, on December 7th, 1941, America sustained a total of 2,896 mostly military casualties at a little known naval base at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese navy staged a massive sneak attack. It took years but we eventually recovered from what FDR termed “a day which will live in infamy.”

More than nine years ago, on September 11th, 2001, America sustained a total of 2,977 mostly civilian deaths when 19 Islamic reprobates attacked the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. Again, it has taken years but we have substantially recovered, physically if not psychologically.

On Election Day, November 6, 2012 we may or may not be attacked again by Muslim terrorists in our seemingly endless war with Islam. Should that attack come to pass, barring the unimaginable, it still won’t pack the equivalent and immediate emotional shot to America’s gut that Japan’s unprovoked sneak attack on Pearl Harbor or even the devastating attacks of 9/11 accomplished.

Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto’s nightmare of a “sleeping giant” awoke in 1941 and defeated the Axis powers less than four years later; America has yet to fully awaken to the deadly nature of the threat posed by Islam and we are still at war with the Muslim world, fighting their war instead of fighting to win.

. . . You’re in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system: “Attention standby passengers–we now have a seat available on flight number XXXX. Shalom!”

There are a few obvious flaws in that new approach to terror in the skies and elsewhere, chief among which is the issue of containing the explosion to the bomb-carrier.

Also to be considered would be the certainty of the ACLU and other terrorist-loving groups filing complaints and lawsuits seeking to overturn the system to give terrorists a fighting chance to kill a bunch of innocents. After all, at that juncture in their travel, they would still be ground-bound and to effectively profile them by singling out underwear or armpit or crotch bombers is un-Constitutional, no?

Travel Alert! State Department Warns, "Don't Go There! Don't Do That!"

As an adjunct to America’s insane policy of dealing with Islamic terrorist attacks by waiting to be attacked, (since, as our president and Muslim commentator Fareed Zakaria have pointed out, we’re well able to “absorb” even nuclear assaults on the homeland), we’re now warning travellers and tourists to be careful out there when they’re travelling to and touring in Europe.

Obama made that “absorb” comment according to Bob Woodward’s new book, Obama’s Wars and now travellers and tourists have been warned by our State Department of ”the potential for terrorist attacks in Europe. Current information suggests that al-Qa’ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks.”

That alert goes on to warn: “Terrorists may elect to use a variety of means and weapons and target both official and private interests. U.S. citizens are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime services. U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling.”

Just as with domestic terror warnings, our government fails to provide any specific methods or techniques to implement that precaution or information on how to deal with or to avoid being reduced to splinters.

All the President's Wars

Dysfunctional, defeatist, depressing. Those adjectives are just three that describe the Obama administration’s first 20 months, according to a new book by Bob Woodward, Obama’s Wars.

In an article entitled, “Bob Woodward’s Book Details Obama Battles with Advisors over Exit Plans for Afghan War,” Steve Luxenberg of the Washington Post reveals that the book goes far beyond tactics and strategies in Afghanistan.

All in all, it doesn’t present a pretty picture of the Obama administration nor is it a flattering insight into Obama’s handling of that war.

In addition to the president’s incessant disputes with his advisors and generals. what comes across most glaringly in Obama’s Wars is Obama’s fixation, not with winning the war, but with getting out, with extricating our forces in order to fulfill his campaign pledges to the Democrat Party faithful.

To the surprise of very few people, his obsession with that “exit plan” at all costs makes the Afghan War clearly a domestic political war with concern for politics the governing force over any strategies. Our troops over there getting shot at and dying will find no comfort in that fact.

A curious facet of Woodward’s book and Luxenberg’s review is the amazing similarity between Barack Obama’s attitude toward a future terrorist attack or attacks and that expressed by Newsweek editor and CNN commentator, Fareed Zakaria.

In a 2007 Newsweek article, Zakaria proposed a policy of “resilience” in the event of terrorist nuclear attacks. He believed we should be prepared to take such attacks on our soil after which we can simply “bounce back from a disruption:” http://tiny.cc/mllpi

America's Enemy Within

Precisely who originated the term “the enemy within” is unclear. It has now become fairly commonplace in our vernacular and has been referred to in a religious context, as partial titles of some books such as Michael Savage’s, even used as a title episode in “Star Trek.”

With reference to America’s internal, domestic enemies, “the enemy within” is at once a very simple and complex term which has in the past referred to the Communist menace but has evolved of late to mean the religion of Islam or, to be PC, radical Islamic elements.

America has any number of enemies, both outside our borders and within, nations, people, and forces who despise us for one reason or other and who passively or actively work to undermine our values, national security, our very existence as a nation.

Communism is not quite dead since it lives and breathes in China, North Korea, and Cuba and a former KGB head Vladimir Putin rules the former U.S.S.R. with figurehead, Dmitry Medvedev. However, despite the natural inclinations of Communist despots to bluster threateningly, the Red Menace can’t be considered a viable threat.

As of now.

Far and away the most visible and serious external enemy America has today, as well as our most dedicated and dangerous enemy within, is extreme, radical Islam which is probably the most insidious domestic collection of foes we have ever encountered.

They are not traitors in the sense of France’s Vichy government . . .

Two stories which appeared the same day on CNS.com illustrate the insanity of the American people and of our government.

The first titled, “Public Says the Federal Debt Equal to Threat from Terrorism,” (http://bit.ly/bYprgp) is based on a Gallup survey which incidentally also shows that people trust Republicans over Democrats on both issues. That latter result is incidental only because it doesn’t matter.

Health care costs placed third in the survey, followed by unemployment and illegal immigration, which matter even less.

The reason those issues matter less is not because they are inconsequential, however.

The federal debt is horrendous and growing worse daily as this administration piles trillions of debt dollars onto the backs of future generations. The cost of health care is equally horrendous and is sapping the life out of Americans both literally and figuratively. The unchecked flood of illegal immigrants is swamping America’s educational and medical resources.

One might even add the Gulf oil catastrophe as another serious but secondary concern.

Why are all the other major problems facing America merely incidental to the threat of terrorism? Simply because the next terrorist attack or attacks could make the debt, health care, immigration, and the Gulf irrelevant. . .

There’s nothing wrong with Sharia law that a little updating wouldn’t cure. Okay, a LOT of updating.

I will leave the detailed nuances of Sharia to Muslim and Western scholars and theologians. Suffice to say Sharia is the sacred law of Islam passed down through divine revelation in the Qu’ran or Koran and the writings of the Prophet Muhammad collected in the Sunnah. Sharia is subject to interpretation by the two main sects of Islam, the Sunni and the Shi’a, and different Muslim countries also have differing interpretations.

Part One of this series explored the rapid spread of Muslims and Islam in Western Europe particularly where Muslims and the Muslim faith is inexorably gaining ascendancy and where it is already influencing life and public policy in that area of the world.

The power of Muslims and Sharia is also gaining strength in America although at a slower pace simply due to the breadth and population of our nation.

Sharia Law Part One: National Suicide

America’s president may have banned the terms “Islamic terrorism” and “war on terror” as if banning words makes them and their meanings go away. That foolishness only serves to embolden Islamic terrorists.

That ongoing struggle may or may not result in a victory for Western Civilization. Win or lose, at the same time that jihad continues, there is a second struggle in progress, the struggle for national identity and continuation of Western values and lifestyle that is under seige by the Muslim religion.

Proposals have been put forward in Western Europe where there are large concentrations of Muslims to institute Sharia law as the law of “their lands” and various European countries have been caving into Muslim demands in order to keep the peace.

Similar proposals have been made in the United States even for the area of the World Trade Center where Islamic extremists plan to build a super mosque in the shadow of the Freedom Tower on the site of what used to be the WTC.

Any serious consideration of those proposals would reflect nothing less than a wish for national suicide.

It only takes a casual perusal of the headlines to determine that America is indeed at war and one front of that war against Islamic fundamentalism has arrived on our shores, in our streets, in our air space, and on our Army bases.

Part One explored that reality. Part Two takes up “A Plan to Counter an ‘Ever-Evolving Enemy’ ” and an article by Ed Fuelner citing the Heritage Foundation’s approach to dealing with Islamic extremists. Fuelner is the president of that conservative think tank.

Fuelner points out the obvious, that this is a different war we’re battling and that the enemy is not always distinguishable as the enemy but that we have nevertheless interdicted some 31 attacks, including Times Square, since 9/11.

I’m not certain what all the other 30 were but we didn’t thwart the last two. . .

Dave Letterman has been getting a lot of mileage, and a lot of laughs, out of the Gulf oil disaster that killed 11 Americans and which is an environmental catastrophe. On Monday, he began milking the Times Square failed terrorist attack for all the yuks it was worth. On Tuesday, he linked the two, asking the rhetorical and inane question, Which is worse?

For Mr. Letterman’s edification, what happened to British Petroleum’s offshore oil rig was, apparently, a deadly accident. What happened Saturday in the crowded “Crossroads of the World” was just one more in a series of planned but fortunately foiled terror attacks on our homeland.

Neither should be a source of amusement even for Letterman.

What is also not amusing is the recent escalation of successful and unsuccessful Islamic terrorist attacks–there, I’ve said it, Mr. Obama!–on American soil, an escalation which should give pause to those who refuse to admit we’re in an undeclared war on terrorism, or that the United States is in imminent danger. . .
