Anti-Christianity in the News
The age-old admonition against ever discussing religion or politics never held any water, except maybe for atheists and for those who consider politicians spawns of the devil.
Especially in A.D. 2012, with the first serious Mormon candidate running for president, a president who is desperate to establish his Christian bona fides in the face of continuing doubts, and Rep. Paul Ryan saying on Tuesday that his Catholic faith is the foundation of his budget plan, religion has taken center stage in America although that stage is noticeably tilted against Romney and Ryan.
For example, Mitt Romney is often subjected to negative stereotyping and commentary from both the left and the right because of his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, reactions that haven’t been seen in this country since the first Roman Catholic ran for the presidency fifty years ago.
Indeed, it would seem that all Christians come under greater scrutiny than adherents to other faiths, which has given rise to charges that there is a war on Christianity raging in America, a war apparent to any thinking person.
What do New York Jets quarterback Jeff Tebow, former sitcom star Kirk Cameron, and “American Idol” hopeful Colton Dixon have in common? Actually, all three share the same distinctions of being devout Christians–and all have been roundly criticized for their beliefs.
Tebow, of course, is the most visible figure among them and has been attacked for his outward displays of faith since his days as a Florida Gator through his two years with the Denver Broncos. Since his trade last month to New York, the belly of the liberal beast, many sports pundits have ramped up their ridicule and critiques and have gleefully predicted he will fail miserably.
However, failure doesn’t exist in Tebow’s playbook any more than the thought of changing either his character or altering his public demeanor exists.
Tebow took his show on the road to celebrate Easter Sunday to Georgetown, Texas, appropriately at the Celebration Church where he delivered a heartfelt sermonette in the form of a Q and A session with the pastor before a congregation estimated at 30,000 faithful.
The gist of his sentiments was reflected in his proud admission that he said, “Win or lose, it is most important that I honor my Lord and savior Jesus Christ.” (http://bit.ly/Hzkqa0)
Not that it would bother Tebow but that line will surely be seized on by his detractors the first time he throws an interception or the Jets lose a game.
It’s doubtful Kirk Cameron can toss a football as far as Tim Tebow but he created almost as big a stir when he frankly expressed his Christian moral views last Friday on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.”
Cameron tread where few celebs would dare to go when the”Growing Pains” star and now a Born Again Christian gave his opinion on abortion and gay marriage.
Concurring with millions of other Americans, Cameron believes abortion is “wrong, under any circumstances. I think that someone who is ultimately willing to murder a child, even to fix another tragic and devastating situation–like rape or incest or things like that–is not taking the moral highroad.”
He may have gotten away with that statement but his non-politically correct Christian view that homosexuality is a perversion, without using that term, caused an uproar from the ultra-liberal, pro-gay set. Christians Lose, Muslims Win in the War on Religion
President Barack Hussein Obama’s war against Christianity and the free exercise of religion is being bolstered by a variety of reinforcements while Christianity is being denigrated and Islam is promoted in America’s public schools.
New York City’s Mayor for Life, Michael Bloomberg, a proponent of the World Trade Center mosque and Muslim’s praying in the city’s public schools, has banned churches from using those same schools to hold Christian services. The vapid billionare mayor wasn’t forced to defend his position on Muslim rights and based his opposition to Christian rights on the misinterpretation of the non-existent First Amendment provision for a strict separation of church and state.
Bloomberg was undeterred by the fact churches renting areas of public schools throughout the nation is a non-issue nor by a temporary injunction issued by a U.S. District Court.
James Madison Elementary School in Sheboygan, WI also supported Obama’s selective war on religion by interdicting a second grader’s Valentine’s Day greeting to his classmates.
Little Dexter Thielhelm was censored when he tried to give his fellow kidlets the simple Valentine message that “Jesus Loves You” wrapped with candy and the Bible verse, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Horror of horrors!
District Assistant Superintendent Mark Holtzman explained the rationale for the confiscation of Dexter’s good wishes.
Holtzman tried to clarify the matter by saying that the Christian Valentines, for which Dexter’s siblings were also censored, because, “Otherwise we would be allowing anybody to give out personal messages or values. If somebody wanted to put anti-Semitism in there . . . people would be outraged by that.”
Say what?
Advising kids that Jesus loves them would open the floodgates to anti-Semites sending Jewish kids the word that God hates them? Sending innocent, religious Valentines is in any way tantamount to persecution? Offering hope in lieu of despair is unacceptable?
More likely, Holtzman and the Sheboygan School District have enlisted in Obama’s anti-Christian army and in Obama’s Christian intolerance.
Out in Colorado’s Grand Junction High School, there are tons of tolerance, not toward Christianity but towards Islam. . .

Tebowing, a PC No-No
“Tebowing” in the National Football League is unrelated to elbowing, kicking, or tackling. It’s an odd phenomenon inspired by the much-disparaged, much-admired, newly-designated starting Denver Bronco quarterback, Tim Tebow.
It seems Tim has a rare quirk for an NFL player. He feels he should publicly kneel on one knee in prayer to thank God when he accomplishes great things. Other, growing, phenomena are Tebow fans who have taken to emulating his quirk and media criticism by people disturbed by his overt Christian religiosity.
Tim Tebow may be a fan fave but he isn’t exactly a big favorite in the politically-correct community mainstream media which seem very uncomfortable with the facts he’s an unreconstructed evangelical Christian who isn’t embarrassed to admit it and because he doesn’t fit the MSM mold.
From his glory days as a Florida Gator, there was just something about the 2007 Heisman Award winner that many in the PC sports media couldn’t quite articulate. Well, they could but doing so would out them as anti-Christian bigots and they couldn’t very well admit that. Beginning with complaints over his evangelizing habit of posting biblical verses in eye black, they adopted various subterfuges to ridicule him instead.
The Denver Post took an oblique swipe at the wildly popular Tebow in an article not devoted to the quarterback as much as to what it called, “Tebow Inc.,” the successful family enterprise which markets a variety of products from a Christian perspective but which, according to the Post, revolves around “All Tim, all the time.”
The Post strongly implied “Team Tebow” serves to gratify Tim’s ego as well as charitable beneficiaries and suggested Kyle Orton became the Bronco backup to Tebow due mainly to “Tebow Mania” and not to any of his debatable skills on the field.
Before the 2011 NFL season began, CBSSports.com’s Gregg Doyel became especially exercised over Tebow’s innocuous remark that, “I’m relying as always on my faith.” A paraphrase of the comment might be that he simply meant he’s a religious guy who counts on his religion to guide and inspire him.
Not so to Doyel, who contended he really liked Tebow personally and is himself a churchgoer and, without mentioning the kneeling prayer, interpreted that profession of faith as something that “baffles” him and clear evidence that Tebow was guilty of blasphemy, a contemptuous irreverence toward God.
Without evincing any affection or Christian charity, Doyel did show he fails to understand the sin of blasphemy or the quarterback . . .

When Islamic and Christian Worlds Collide
A good, general blogging rule of thumb is that when two sides of a controversial issue criticize you, it’s fairly certain an article was reasonable and objective.
I’ve had more than my share of brickbats and worse hurled my way by the Jewish community for commentary on such issues as the 1967 USS Liberty “incident” and, more recently, for articles on Judge Richard Goldstone’s U.N. Report on Israel’s actions in the Gaza War of 2008-2009. Therefore, I consider it a compliment when a Muslim sympathizer also attacks my objectivity.
A reader of my article, “Islam, the U.N., and 9/11,” http://bit.ly/gVLLxL, responded to my re-posting of that piece on CNSNews.com and “ithinkrevolution” was positively vitriolic. His screenname says a great deal about “ithinkrevolution’s” mindset and his comments says a great deal about his biases and skewed interpretation of history.
I wasn’t perturbed by his condescension, (“Before you make such a comment though you should read a bit more”) and his defense of the United Nations, (“The UN is not authorized to investigate such a matter”), as much as by “ithinkrevolution’s” free and breezy willingness to engage in Islamic revisionism.
The premises of “Islam, the U.N., and 9/11″ were the stultification of the United Nations, which has been evidenced so often it barely needs repetition, but primarily the effects of that uselessness and ineptitude on the U.N.’s ability to condemn Islamic terrorism or even to define terrorism almost 10 years after September 11th, 2001. The 57 members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the OIC, compounded by the sympathies and fear of other U.N. member states have seen to that.
“Ithinkrevolution” took issue with that contention but was particularly incensed over a critique of Islam’s violence and went on a roll: ”And as far as your ‘Islamic nations are historically accustomed to mass murder, religious mayhem, unimaginable bloody atrocities’, I hope your [sic] not a Christian who has the balls [sic] to make such a statement.” [Editor's note, I am and I do.] The history of Christianity is much more bloody and horrible than Islam is. The deaths in the Middle East since the creation of Israel. [sic] Until the Allies rolled in and forced tens of thousands of people out of homes their people| had lived in for nearly 2000 years. [sic]“
As rebuttal, I would point to the facts that Islam was born in violence replete with murders and bloody massacres, grew into invasions and pillaging, and reached its Golden Age through inflicting systematic devastation on the regions and nations it conquered. And, yes, it’s true that Christian armies in the Crusades . . .

2 Zealous Moms, 2 Education Travesties
A frustrated Ohio mom and a religious New Hampshire mother have discovered that educating kids isn’t as easy as it may seem.
Kelley Williams-Bolar was sent to jail by a judge because she wanted her kids to get a decent education and Brenda Voydatch’s child was sent to public school by a judge because she wanted to instill her faith in her daughter and home-teach her.
Aspiring teacher and current teacher aide Williams-Bolar was fed up with the atrocity which passes for public education in America and she did something about it: She cheated, lied and was caught.
Four years ago, frustrated with the poor education her daughters were receiving in her Akron neighborhood schools and fearful for their safety in her crime-plagued area after their home was burglarized, Williams-Bolar tried to scam the system. With the complicity of her father, she registered the girls in the nearby, highly-regarded Copley-Fairlawn School District.
The district hired a private investigator to look into her actual residence and determined that Williams-Bolar’s kids lived in Akron. After refusing to compensate Copley-Fairlawn by paying $30,000. in retroactive tuition, their mother was accused of falsifying records and filing false court papers and jailed for 10 days.
Few would fault Williams-Bolar for her motivations, protecting and educating her daughters. As she said, “It’s overwhelming. I’m exhausted. I did this for them, so there it is. I did this for them.” As Copley-Fairlawn officials said, she was cheating because her daughters received a quality education without paying taxes to fund it: “Those dollars need to stay home with our students.”

There’s a larger issue in all this, and that issue does not involve discrimination against Williams-Bolar and her daughters because they are black. Without specifically alleging bias, that implication was made by Williams-Bolar who claims she was “singled out,” a claim reinforced by a supporter and by the empathetic ABC News commentators.
In point of fact, some hundred other students were investigated and found to reside in other districts. Three families agreed to pay tuition to Copley-Fairlawn, others withdrew their kids, Williams-Bolar fought back and went to jail because of it.
The larger issue is the sorry state of Akron schools as well as many other inner-city schools which are so atrocious that parents resort to subterfuges and illegalities in order to get their children safely educated.
Brenda Voydatch encountered an entirely different, combined educational-judicial travesty. She didn’t want another school for eleven year old Amanda. She wanted to insure her daughter not only received an education but that it was a faith-based, Christian education . . .

Art for art’s sake, l’art pour l’art, the early 19th century philosophy posited the view that art needs no justification other than being art and that no other purpose is necessary or relevant to the artiste. The definition of “art” on Dictionary.com is ”the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.”
Washington’s venerable and esteemed Smithsonian Institution, established in 1846 at the behest of James Smithson for the ”increase and diffusion of knowledge among men,” is in the process of re-defining “what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance” and defiling its role as America’s greatest, free museum and institution.
The Smithsonian’s new exhibition with the cutesy, misleading title, “Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture,” which is followed by an equally misleading if not as cutesy program description, could lead families visiting the exhibit to believe they were about to view some nice portraits. Sadly, they would be wrong.
The Smithsonian “Hide/Seek” exhibit has little to do with playing Hide and Seek, although that devious title will be sure to draw in its target audience, the kid-crowd.
Instead, “Hide/Seek” is devoted to “such themes as the role of sexual difference in depicting modern America; how artists explored the fluidity of sexuality and gender; how major themes in modern art—especially abstraction—were influenced by social marginalization; and how art reflected society’s evolving and changing attitudes toward sexuality, desire, and romantic attachment:” http://tiny.cc/awkgk
Paraphrased for the masses, “Hide/Seek,” were it a movie, would be classified X-rated by the MPAA.

Since many Christians don’t seem to have the gumption or wherewithal to do it, it’s refreshing to see anyone defending Christianity. When the defender happens to be a jew, it approaches breathtaking.

Miller defends Christianity and Christians, real Christians, that is, people who “who get up every morning and genuinely reflect on how they could become better people by becoming more like Jesus,” on many bases. Those bases include exposing the hypocrisy and intolerance which allows pseudo-sophisticates like late night comics and even his fellow jews to preach tolerance for Muslims at the same time they ridicule the “moral clarity” and “moral precision” of Christianity on such matters as abortion and racial discrimination.
As Miller writes, ”I have never seen a Christian blow himself up on a bus full of innocent people, declare holy war on the unbeliever, or stone a congregant for adultery.” Nor has he seen “Jesus followers that crashed airplanes into the World Trade Center . . . [nor] Jesus followers who attack Jews on the streets of Paris so frequently and violently.”
Yet, Christians and never Muslims are pilloried and mocked regularly by America’s and Europe’s pseudo-sophisticates.

Since many Christians don’t seem to have the gumption or wherewithal to do it, it’s refreshing to see anyone defending Christianity. When the defender happens to be a jew, it approaches breathtaking.
