Teacher Unions vs Education Vouchers, Home-Schooling, and Charter Schools
Forty years ago, a debate raged among public school teachers in New York State over the question of whether to affiliate themselves with labor unions.
The debate essentially centered on the issue of whether teaching was a profession or a trade. A compromise was reached with a semantical subterfuge when many teachers opted to continue calling their locals “federations” or “associations,” thereby retaining the illusion of professionalism, and joined the New York State United Teachers, “a union of professionals.”
Forty years ago, the American public education system produced graduates who could read, write, cipher, and think. Granted, we didn’t accomplish those goals as well as our forebears had but they didn’t have to compete with television and cultural and sexual revolutions. Still, we did a pretty damned good job–as contrasted with educators today.
Was the unionization of education the only cause in education’s transparent decline?
Not at all. Many teachers were already members of de facto unions which represented them in the same way they are represented today. Also, there are various outside influences on kids today which were present forty years ago but which hadn’t yet fully blossomed into the negative forces they are now.
And cell phones, iphones, Blackberries, smart phones, personal computers, and the Intenet didn’t exist.
Are teacher labor unions necessarily a bad thing? Again, not at all.
Teachers have greatly benefitted from the powerful clout of statewide and nationwide affiliations and school budgets have ballooned. They are not necessarily a bad thing, unless union extremism as seen in teacher participation in last spring’s riots in Wisconsin and the hardships inflicted on taxpayers by those balloons are factored in.
As a desperate response to failing public school systems often more intent on propagandizing than teaching, parents have resorted to a unique alternative, homeschooling their kids.
Teacher unions and their elected officials have fought tooth and nail against that desperation. Home-based learning effectively served as a denunciation of the inefficacy and the misguided values inculcated in public schools so what else could they do?
Education vouchers allowing parents to shop for the best elementary and secondary schools for their children represented an even greater threat to entrenched union interests and they, too, have been resisted as if they were a creation of the devil.
After all, if parents were permitted to pick and choose, they wouldn’t choose failing schools and would therefore put pressure on districts to compete by raising their level of instruction and discipline and to return to their fundamental pedagogical mission.
Both home schooling and education vouchers undermine America’s public education system and that’s not a bad thing either in light of the fact that system isn’t educating very well.
Another alternative to sending children to public schools that provide, at best, a babysitting service has sprung up in the past two decades: charter schools. If vouchers are the creation of some devil to teacher unions, charter schools must be the creation of Lucifer himself. . .

Female Teachers Behaving Very Badly
Female Teachers Behaving Very Badly
In yet another in a seemingly endless line of public school teachers forgetting their calling and function, Ohio health and gym teacher Stacy Schuler has been caught with her panties down when and where they shouldn’t be.
Despite pleading insanity and victimization, the 33 year old Ms. Schuler was sentenced to four years in prison for providing unauthorized and illicit extra sex-education help to five Mason High School students. The charges included 16 counts of sexual battery and 3 counts of providing alcohol to minors.
If she was insane, she has plenty of company.
Her 17 year old, football team seductees testified Ms. Schuler plied them with booze at her home and usually initiated the sexual contacts. Their parents furnished the trial’s comic relief by suggesting their sons had been damaged for life by their experience. Lecherous teachers throughout the land rejoiced in the addition of one more convicted pervert to their ranks.
Actually, the rejoicing was not mentioned in the HuffingtonPost.com story anymore than it delved into the motivations and expectations of the randy teens when they repeatedly attended Ms. Schuler’s home-based sex lessons. Nor did HufPo explain how they were harmed by what will probably earn them the envy of their uninvited teammates and joint election as Mason High prom kings.
None of those observations are intended to absolve Ms. Schuler of her unprofessional iniquities but rather intended to put them and Schuler in some perspective. Neither do her gross lack of judgment, her uncontrolled lust, or her stupidity absolve her of responsibility but it should again be noted she is far from alone.
Her fellows and fellow women in America’s education community are virtually legion. . .

Atlanta Schools Killed Thousands of Egos
Atlanta Schools Killed Thousands of Egos
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation recently uncovered a systemic, systematic conspiracy by Atlanta teachers and administrators to misrepresent and falsely enhance the achievement of their students and usurp student rights to do their own cheating by changing answers on statewide tests and creating the illusion that both teachers and students were doing well.
The effort gained Atlanta’s Superintendent of Schools Beverly Hall wide national acclaim and accolades as an outstanding educational leader. After the cheating was revealed, she resigned in disgrace while still maintaining her innocence and ignorance of any wrongdoing.
Hall may have been ignorant but she is hardly innocent. Not unexpectedly, Hall pledged her “full cooperation” in the GBI investigation and provided none. (http://bit.ly/p6MPo5)
New details on the massive scandal involving 178 teachers and principals in 44 Atlanta public schools have now emerged.
Teachers not only altered student answers but deviously located slow students near better students during tests in order to facilitate cheating, thereby giving the teachers somewhat of a break from erasing all those incorrect answers. Cheating for their students also saved teachers from the onus of providing extra help for those struggling.
One of the accused teachers–82 have confessed–told investigators that Supt. Hall’s district was “run like the mob.” Another claimed, “Everybody was in fear. It is not that the teachers are bad people and want to do it. It is that they are scared.” Others ”complained to investigators that some students arrived at middle school reading at a first-grade level. But, they said, principals insisted those students had to pass their standardized tests. Teachers were either ordered to cheat or pressured by administrators until they felt they had no choice.” (http://huff.to/oTIjhh)

Handwritings on White House Walls?
Handwritings on White House Walls?
It may have foeshadowed 2012 when Obama-idolator Peter Fonda called President Barack Hussein Obama a “f*cking traitor.” It was probably said affectionately by the environmentalist/actor to get some attention from other beautiful people at the Cannes film festival for his enviro-creds but it was still exceptional.
Poor Peter, who hasn’t had a hit movie since “Easy Rider” 42 years ago, had to say something notable to grab some attention from his big sister, Hanoi Jane Fonda, and he only considers the president a “f*cking traitor” because Obama didn’t handle the Gulf oil spill very well. (http://yhoo.it/kW7NAd)
The fact that Obama hasn’t handled very much very well didn’t bother Peter but the fact that such a nasty, verbal attack by a leftist, Hollywood elitist–which is an admitted redundancy–would have been unheard of just a year ago bodes ill for the president.
Is the handwriting on the wall?
More damaging scribbling came from Obama’s mainstream media which, as per his bidding, has been remarkably quiescent for more than 3 years now when it came to vetting his background, interviewing him with other than softball questions, or citing and publicizing his frequent gaffes and misstatements.
The MSM long ago abandoned its moral and ethical responsibilities in that regard and the White House press corps–or, “corpse,” according to the president–has been most lax, according to senior members of that corps/corpse.
Those veterans, including Sander Vanocur, Sid Davis, and Haynes Johnson, believe White House correspondents are “too timid and deferential.” What’s most amazing, in addition to their being critical, is that it took them 26 months to notice.
As Vanocur observed, ”You want to know what’s wrong with the press? The press is what’s wrong with the press.” Washington Post reporter Haynes Johnson chimed in with, ”It’s all very stale, very structured, very pale.” And Sid Davis, who has covered nine presidents, went further than criticizing by resorting to sarcasm in characterizing the press and their demeanor in the president’s presence by saying, ”It looks like they are watching a funeral service at [Washington funeral firm] Joseph Gawler’s and it shouldn’t be that way.” (http://bit.ly/kEFPrA)
No kidding, Messrs. Vanocur, Johnson, and Davis! Where have you been?
More telling than their comments, and more concerning for Obama, is not what those three said, which in itself was remarkable, but that they had the audacity to say it. Lapdogs aren’t supposed to growl and bite and neither they nor their fellow correspondents would have deigned or dared to say it in the past.
More handwriting?
What will undoubtedly be viewed as less a harbinger for Obama’s future as calculated and inconsequential backbiting by evil conservatives is opposition by conservative groups to Obama’s nomination of Berkeley Law Professor Goodwin Liu to serve on the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals despite his “well-qualified” rating from the American Bar Association.
Berkeley is well, Berkeley, and the Ninth Court is as notoriously liberal, and the ABA tends to consider any judicial candidate well-qualified as long as he or she swings politically leftward.
The Loyal Opposition was unable to block tax cheat Tmothy Geithner from taking over as Secretary of the Treasury or such administration luminaries as homosexual activist Harry Knox as a faith counsellor, radical Cass Sunstein as Regulatory Czar, America-hater John Holdren as Obama’s chief science maven, admitted child-abuser Kevin Jennings as his man to insure safe schools, and a scary host of other leftists from taking posts in the administration but considers Liu’s nomination to be even more “ridiculous.”
Obama floated a trial balloon for Jamie Gorelick as FBI Director, the same Jamie Gorelick, aka “The Mistress of Disaster.” who made certain the FBI, the CIA, and other intelligence agencies couldn’t share information before 9/11. However, if nothing else, Gorelick had some related experience. Liu, much like the president before his election, has virtually none nor does he have trial experience on which to evaluate him as qualified to pass down judgments, a requisite heretofore for ABA endorsement. (http://bit.ly/jy0IzU)
Republicans and conservatives drawing a line with Liu may not be equivalent to Peter Fonda’s “f*cking traitor” remark or to veteran White House correspondents outing the White House . . .

Education News, None of it Good
Edcation News, None of it Good
Among other understandings, teachers of America’s elementary and high school students were always expected to set examples for their students.
Aside from the obvious of not seducing their students, public school teachers were expected to establish a certain sense of decorum, which mandate in my school district incorporated into the union contract the allowance: “Male teachers are permitted to remove their jackets in the classroom.”
Times have changed. Radically.
Teacher-student assignations have become almost commonplace, student behavior has gone far beyond tossing spitballs and chewing gum, and teacher dress codes have gone the way of high-buttoned shoes. Aside from teachers hitting on students, other behavioral modifications on the part of teachers are much less forgivable, especially when the example they are setting is one of extreme misbehavior and lawlessness.
Teachers and other public servants in Wisconsin have the same rights accorded to every American under the First Amendment to the Constitution’s prohibition against infringement on freedom of speech, interference with the right to peaceably assemble, and the right of petitioning governmental redress of grievances.
What teachers do not have the right or privilege to do is to disgrace themselves and their profession, to break laws, to interfere with government functions, or to shamelessly trash both their profession and themselves by allowing teacher and outside thugs to direct and dictate their criminal activities: http://tiny.cc/2j0b9
In Wisconsin, teachers protesting new Republican Governor Scott Walker’s attempts to clean up the fiscal mess he inherited have reached new lows in their efforts to resist limitations on collective bargaining rights.
Despite Walker’s offers of compromise, Wisconsin “educators” have abandoned their classroom responsibilities by calling in sick in droves, falsifying medical “sick notes,” committing outright slander against their duly-elected representatives, and resorting to the same bullying tactics they decry in their schools, all of which are condoned by the nation’s Bully-in-Chief, Barack Hussein Obama
Acting more like semi-civilized Third Worlders instead of American student role models, their protests are costing millions. . .

FDR and Union Tyranny
FDR and Union Tyranny
As a former, retired, teacher union member whose father was a member of a company union, I don’t in the least feel hypocritical in opposing the actions of Wisconsin teachers. Bottom line is, they’re wrong, in the extreme.
When I began as a public school English teacher in the early 70′s in suburban Long Island, I had no intention of joining either the local or state unions. Even then, the state union was decidedly liberal and, in fact, there was a movement afoot to expunge the word, “union,” in favor of “association” in order to preserve a sense of teacher professionalism.
“Union” won out in that debate, not that it mattered since the umbrella organization, the National Education Association, the NEA, which partners with the American Federation of Teachers, the AFT, is a de facto union, with 3.2 million members.
In any event, during my first year I refused on principle to join the local but succumbed in my second after repeated interruptions of my class by an importuning union rep. As it turned out, I subsequently learned that the district administration, in conjunction with the union, frowned on those who didn’t join and if I hadn’t signed on I may not have had a job my third year.
With that as preface and introduction to the current education crisis in Madison, Wisconsin and elsewhere, it’s been more than disquieting to discover that I was at least in partial agreement with the greatest liberal icon in the history of liberal icons, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Not that FDR was opposed to unions or collective bargaining–far from it–but he knew the inherent dangers of public employees negotiating with governments via union representatives.
As he said, ”All government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public-personnel management. The very nature and purposes of government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with government employee organizations:” http://tiny.cc/pnwwf
Apparently, today’s public employee unions never got that message as to the “insurmountable limitations” and the impossibility of such situations. Nor can they seem to grasp FDR’s reminder that, in collective bargaining with governments, “The employer is the whole people,” meaning that, seated on the other side of the negotiating table, are not representatives of some greedy corporation but the American public.
Extrapolating from Roosevelt’s words, when public employee unions demonstrate and agitate and demand, they are demonstrating and agitating against “the whole people” and their demands are not being made against a mayor, governor, or president but rather against every taxpayer.
President Ronald Reagan . . .

All of You Are Black! Go to Hell! Obama Is a Hitler!
All of You Are Black! Go to Hell! Obama Is a Hitler!
There are certain things we ought not say in America’s post-racial, post-incivilty era. “All of you are black. Go to hell!” is one of them.
Good grief! Would anyone ever say that? Could an elected white official ever say that? Well, no, and none did.
However, at a Dallas County Court Commission meeting, black commissioner John Wiley Price did say to various people present, “All of you are white. Go to hell!” and, for emphasis, repeated the hell command three more times. After a member of the audience rebuked him for his language and said, “You should be ashamed!” Price’s unoriginal rejoinder was, “I’m not ashamed! Go to hell!”
The Dallas brouhaha was precipitated by an exchange in which Price was indirectly referred to as a “mullah” for allegedly forcing out of office a 24 year veteran election administrator. Price took offense at being termed a Muslim leader or warlord and retaliated by telling white people what he thought of them, a flagrant insult for which he later refused to apologize nor to retract.
See clips of the initial confrontation and Price’s subsequent obscenity-laden rebuttal, both of which suggest America hasn’t yet entered those new Obama eras of post-racialism and post-incivility, here: http://tiny.cc/x2rca
Even more grossly uncivil rhetoric is being spewed in Wisconsin where the president hasn’t been compared to Adolph Hitler but where Wisconsin’s new Republican Governor Scott Walker is being subjected to attacks that are equally repugnant.
Teacher and other union labor leaders have compared Walker to Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Hosni Mubarak and, just as Commisioner Price sought to accent his hell comment, Walker has been depicted on signs ”with a cross-hairs rifle sight over his face.”
The public employee protests in Madison and throughout Wisconsin have become so dire, and dirty and farcical, that even the chairman of the state’s Democrat Party, Mike Tate, has condemned them as unacceptably extreme without mentioning that his party, along with the Democrat National Committee, President Obama’s political apparatus, the Service Employees International Union, and other outside forces with political and social agendas of their own, have been stoking the Wisconsin unrest and working to take the chaos on the road to Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota.
State Democrat legislators adding farce to the mix by running away and hiding and teachers calling in sick by the thousands leaving the students they claim to care for either out in the cold or joining demonstrations they don’t understand didn’t perturb Chairman Tate.
However, he drew the line with what his Press Secretary Graeme Zielinski described as inflammatory signs, then drew another, politically-correct, line . . .

Madness in Madison
Madness in Madison
It’s not quite at the level of the madness in the Mideast nor tantamount to the madness of King George but what’s happening in Madison, Wisconsin and elsewhere in the Badger State is getting close.
The newly-elected Republican governor of the home of the cheeseheads, Scott Walker, has proposed changes in teachers’ collective bargaining rights which, based on union interpretations, would reduce Wisconsin’s teachers to the level of vassals of the state. A more reasonable view of Walker’s plan is that it would save Wisconsin from its fiscal insanity and a declaration of bankruptcy.
With New Jersey’s Republican Governor Chris Christie as a model, Walker has also dared to take on the powerful teacher union and impose common sense constraints which would accomplish nothing more than getting public employee and teacher salary and benefits more in line with private sector pay and bennies.
Time was, many decades ago now, people entered government service and the teaching profession with full knowledge that they would be compensated less monetarily in return for greater job security.
Times change.
Today, thanks to the power of unions, workers in the public sector have been thriving even as their privately-employed counterparts have faced cutbacks, dismissals, reduction in pay scales, and elimination of health and other benefits. It was equitable in the past that teachers, et al. were able to trade off pay for job security. Now that they have far surpassed the private sector in monetary compensation, earning up to triple private salaries while still retaining employment security and almost unlimited benefits, it’s equitable that they help level the playing field.
The new governor’s practical and hardly revolutionary proposals have been met with outrage and lies by the unions yet they merely provide . . .

Fostering Gender Confusion in Canada
Fostering Gender Confusion in Canada
There’s little consolation for normal American parents of normal American schoolchildren that bizarre school ideas are also in full, sick bloom north of the border but our northern neighbors afford a degree of hope.
There’s no word, yet, that teachers in Canadian public schools are present when second graders are cavorting au natural in their classrooms and performing oral sex on one another, as one teacher was last week in Oakland, CA, but maybe it just hasn’t been made public. (See “Premature Sex-Ed for Second Graders,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=3472, for the sketchy, kitschy, kinky details on that abomination.)
Canuck educators are evidently very eager to demonstrate that they, too, are very much on their “progressive” game, the same game American teachers and administrators have been practicing for some time now under the aegis of the diversity-obsessed National Education Association.
However, officials at King City Public Schools north of Toronto had bad news for their students. Cross-Dressing Day, aka Opposite Gender Day, was canceled last Friday after King City parents told them what to do with that planned perversion. York Region District School Board spokesman explained the board’s change of heart by saying, “Opposite Gender Day has been canceled in the wake of concerns of parents. The idea of [students] experiencing being people of the opposite gender has offended some people in the community, and the school does not want to do that.”
Go figure! After all, don’t all little girls want to be like little boys and vice-versa? . . .

Tales of American Miseducamation
Tales of American Miseducamation
There’s nothing wrong with America’s schools that a healthy infusion of common sense mixed with a little patriotism and honesty wouldn’t cure.
The idea of patriotism, of course, has long been passe’ if not considered outright sedition in the liberal establishment that pretends to educate America’s children under the aegis of the ultra-liberal National Education Association which values self-esteem and such policies as diversity and multi-culturalism over actual learning.
Back in November, school officials at the Denair Middle School in California determined that 13 year old Cody Alicea could no longer fly the American flag on his bike which he had been doing to demonstrate his love of country and his appreciation of his grandfather’s service to the nation. Their reasoning? Other students complained and Cody’s showing of the colors could inflame them.
You see, as Denair school superintendent Edward Parraz explained, he was concerned about student safety. He “asked the boy to remove the flag to avoid ‘racial tension’ that he felt would inevitably result from Hispanic students responding to the American flag with their own Mexican flags” which could result in, horror of horrors, “other students bringing even more American flags:” http://tiny.cc/zhnw6
Before you knew it, students could actually join young Cody in his patriotic fervor!
The good news is that Superintendant Parraz got his comeuppance, along with a reminder of what country he lived in, when protests hit the fan and a horde of flag-bedecked bikers escorted Cody to school. See a video of Cody and his biker supporters here: http://tiny.cc/hl3r7
Parraz soon rescinded his flag prohibition under duress. He may get an NEA letter in his file.
Would that all American “miseducamation” horrors ended on such a positive note. . .

Teachers in Action, in Inaction, in Perversions
Teachers in Action, in Inaction, in Perversions
Teachers, like other human beings, tend to come in all stripes and in all types. In recent decades, however, the once-esteemed teaching profession, including university profs down to elementary school instructors, seems to be attracting more and more oddballs, incompetents–and perverts than ever before.
Take, for example, 57 year old Raymond Devaughn Taylor, an adjunct at Kennesaw State University of Georgia. You are free to take him since Kennesaw no longer seems to want him after, for unknown reasons, he stripped naked in front of his accounting students who, understandably, reacted as if they were sorely in need of a barf bag.
As TrueCrimeReports.com posed the question, “Let’s say you’re the dean of the business school at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. And let’s say you need someone to teach accounting. Do you: A) sign up [the first applicant] even though he looks like he enjoys molesting small children and farm animals, or B) activate the university’s Perv Alert System (TM) and place the school on lockdown. The logical response is B. But for some reason, the real dean chose A. And it naturally didn’t turn out so well.”
That’s a classic understatement. Students ratted Taylor out, he was fired, arrested, and charged with public indecency: http://bit.ly/gnDY7g He was not charged with inducing the gag reflex in his coed students.
Then we have an unidentified teacher in Palm Beach, Florida Jaega Middle School who apparently is a devotee of extreme sports . . .

Gay Educator Watch
Gay Educator Watch
There was something about Mary in the 1998 eponymous film which Ted the doofus ultimately resolved long after his disastrous prom date. There’s something about teachers today, dating back long before 1998, that isn’t even close to resolution.
To say we live in a morally-loose world today would be a gross understatement. To say that what was once a major bastion of rectitude, the teaching profession, is still that bastion would be an absurdity that would make many students and teachers today all but hysterical with a sly laughter suppressed only by the former standards of teacher-student decorum.
America’s schools haven’t, yet, become modern examples of mini-Sodoms and Gomorrahs and this in no way suggests the current phenomenon is universal but the situation seems to have become dire, so dire that TrueCrimeReport.com now features a special section on a “Weird Teacher Watch.”
And the weirdness isn’t confined to the classroom teacher. Administrators also want their share of the action.
Case in point is 37 year old Charles D. Hurst, former vice-principal of the Pennbrook Middle School in the Philadelphia suburb of Montgomery County. . .

Teacher Gives Extra Help in the Back Seat
Teacher Gives Extra Help in the Back Seat
As a public service, Iowntheworld.com has published pictures of female teachers who have been convicted of various sexual crimes involving underage students in their schools.
As a further public service, IOTW.com has divided said teachers into 2 distinct categories, those it considers “hot” and those it considers “not.”
The pictures relate to a news story of yet another female teacher apprehended in flagrante delicto, meaning in a flagrant act or acts of grossly improper sexual behavior with students under eighteen years of age or who have engaged in such behavior over extended periods.
The accused particular teacher in the most recent instance is. . .

Teachers Who Cheat
Teachers Who Cheat
It’s bewildering why the powers-that-be are all in a dither over the revelation that teachers have been cheating on state achievement tests in Texas. Teachers have been cheating almost as much as kids from time immemorial.
The mandates of NCLB, President George W. Bush’s program of No Child Left Behind, have been roundly castigated but not seriously challenged by any state although the pressures of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 have been a burden for almost a decade on educators and students, as they should be, a burden in the sense of greater emphasis on actually educating children.
In some districts, because of NCLB, salary raises and sometimes tenure are predicated on teacher–and administrative–performance determined through student scores on standardized tests.
Apparently, some teachers–and administrators–have succumbed under the pressure. . .

Teachers and Texas Textbooks
Teachers and Texas Textbooks
. . . With that as a preface, it’s no wonder public school teachers, led by the NEA, are less than enthralled by the recent demands by the Texas legislature and Board of Education that textbooks reverse the trend of the last half-century to mandate texts that are politically correct.
It’s time for some balance and time for textbooks to reflect a little more sense of patriotism instead of the beliefs of socialist studies departments and their like.
As expected, liberals are distorting the Texas changes. Thus, one (liberal) Texan in an article on Salon.com decries the inclusion of textbook information on Jefferson Davis, states’ rights, the Confederacy, and the Southern view of slavery which he contends is one-sided and distorted: http://tiny.cc/vhiek
What also is getting liberal panties in a wad is the Texan insistence:
. That God and religion were founding principles of the nation and of the Founding Fathers;
. That separation of church and state was not the intent of the First Amendment;
. That our free enterprise economic system should be . . .

School Daze
Scenario: Your public school child is gloriously flunking every subject he has, including phys ed.
What to do?
. Do you call his school and ask for a parent-teacher conference with all his or her teachers? Nah, you can’t do that, work schedule and all, and besides it won’t do any good, what could they tell you that you didn’t already know?
. Do you sit down with Johnny or Janey–or Juan or Juanita, or Shaquille or Shaniqua–and read him or her the riot act and threaten to seize his or her cell phone, iPod, TV, pick one or more? Nah, Johnny or Shaniqua would rebel and pout and not talk to you for a week.
. Do you pull your child out of that school and place him in another school? Nah, are you kidding? Kids are locked into whatever school they’re told to attend, or not attend if they’re not in an attending mood.
. Do you find a private or parochial school and enroll the flunker there? Nah, that would cost an arm and a leg and maybe a kidney and you can’t afford it.
President Obama knows exactly what to do when Juan and Juanita and enough of their fellow students were flunking: Fire every teacher, principal, assistant principal, social worker, secretary, security guard, custodian, anyone who has caused the failure of your bright, hard working, and cooperative child.
They did just that up at Central Falls High School in Rhode Island: http://bit.ly/bm3wNf
Literally enforcing provisions of George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind, NCLB, program for failing schools, the powers that be fired the entire staff, administration, and ancillary personnel of CFHS because that action would presumably alleviate the problem of grossly-underperforming students.
The unstated premises of those firings are that the school board knows what it’s doing, that a change of atmosphere, teachers, and administration will inspire the student population to excel or at least pass their courses.
It also presupposes that pigs can dance and turtles can sing. . .

Cougars and Lechers and Pervs, Oh, My!
Cougars and Lechers and Pervs, Oh, My!
We hear a lot nowadays about cougars, not the sleek beasts in the zoo or in the wild who occasionally eat intrepid hikers who get too intrepid but the often less than sleek desperate housewives and horny divorcee’s who lurk in dark bars ready to devour some unsuspecting or suspecting young stud.
The Urban Dictionary somewhat cruelly defines the cougar type as “An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man. The cougar can be anyone from an overly surgically altered wind tunnel victim, to an absolute sad and bloated old horn-meister, to a real hottie or milf.”
(The acronym milf was popularized in American Pie but milfs have been around since long before Anne Bancroft in The Graduate. They just get out more today, and at night.)
Often these nouveau ladies of the evening are reliving misspent or well-spent youth, trying to reassert their feminity, to validate their lives, to sate their declining libidos.
Time was, before the sexual revolution, before the astronomical divorce rate, before The Pill, before the internet, and before Viagra was discovered to have certain beneficial effects for women, catting around was the exclusive province of the male of the species who often removed his wedding ring when he hit the bar circuit for one night stands.
No more. The males now have competition from lusty cougars who aren’t looking for sweet, young female thangs but for buff, young male thangs and have little if any interest in guys who hide rings or paunches.
In one more sociological area, for better or worse, women have broken through a glass ceiling.
Today, cougars may be more ubiquitous than their male counterparts in some stalking venues, though males still seem to prefer younger prey.
One Toronto, Canada restaurant which apparently caters to both the roués and the rouées among us is featuring a . . .

Student Sex, Teachers, and Sex Ed
Student Sex, Teachers, and Sex Ed
We’ve all heard and/or read about secondary school teachers who are exemplars of the ancient Roman poet, Catullus. His most notable poem, “Odi et Amo” or, “I Hate and I Love,” expresses his ardent feelings toward his mistress, Lesbia, conflicted emotions due to the fact she dumped him.
Many, too many, of today’s teachers seem to have an equally-conflicting love, or lust, for some of their students which actually reflects a deep hatred for who and what they are, namely children.
If not totally innocent children, they are usually far less experienced, guileful, and worldly young people than the teachers and mentors who seduce and abuse them, whether they feel seduced and abused or not.
And classroom teachers are certainly not the only seducers and abusers of immature, “young adults,” a contemporary label which confers on kids an undeserved and misleading aura of adulthood. School administrators and supervisors at all levels of education are also complicit in the smarminess.
The latter contribute to the near-epidemic incidents of illicit teacher-student relationships by tolerating student garb which is often more appropriate to a streetwalker in Times Square than a classroom setting.
They design courses for high school kids more fitting for college-level students. They authorize and condone course material and readings one might expect in College English 101 but which only serve to stoke already-blazing teenage hormones. Then they express shock and indignation when wayward teachers hit on the kids.
Not often mentioned is the seductive behavior of the kids, behavior not offered as an excuse for lecherous teachers who should know better than become involved with children but, too often, don’t know better.
An Atlanta, Georgia teacher allegedly accented the “odi” rather than the “amo” part of Catullus’ poem: “Randolphe Forde, a teacher at Mundy’s Mill High School has been charged with making terroristic threats,” an extreme charge considering that all he did was try to hire a “hit student” to kill another student at his school.
Forde’s motive is not as yet known but it’s likely it went beyond chewing gum in class. The attorney for the target victim suggested it was because the 16 year old is gay and that Forde threatened to “hit him in his ‘effin mouth:” http://bit.ly/3UDCXy . . .

He was “very, very mean,” “bossy,” an all around “bad guy.”
No, I’m not talking about your junior high gym teacher, or Jon Corzine, Phil Spector, or Roman Polanski. I’m talking about the man who discovered America in 1492, Christopher Columbus.
That invective is just part of the Politically Correct drivel which, along with the “Umm, Umm, Umm, Barack Hussein Obama” paean to our leader’s greatness, is being drilled into the heads of impressionable kids today by teachers who have been taught to propagandize according to National Education Association standards.
Of course, the explorer from Genoa didn’t really “discover” America. It was never lost and the still un-named continent was already inhabited by native peoples who had discovered it eons before and those noble savages had been busily hunting and warring on it ever since.
After teachers get finished with them, kids come away “with a more nuanced picture of Columbus than the noble discoverer often portrayed in pop culture and legend:” http://bit.ly/4eRath
That’s saying a mouthful!
The nuances include Columbus’ failures, getting lost searching for the Indies, “the suffering of indigenous populations,” their decimation by diseases brought by future settlers, and generally making life awful for the “Indians” who preferred their ancient lifestyle and teepees to the thought of European culture.
Needless to say, the federal Department of Education . . .

Sex Stories
Sex Stories: Teachers, Disease, and Mutilation
Nothing juices public attention more than sex stories of one sort or another. Here are three unrelated sex tales which appeared in the news recently, one involving oversexed teachers, one involving sexual disease, one involving sexual mutilation.
What else could you ask for?
Teachers Are At It Again: It’s become almost commonplace to read of American teachers having affairs with American students as if it’s almost a mandated extracurricular activity.
(Do see Part One in a series, “Teachers Gone Wild,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=370, “Teachers Gone Wild V” et al. Having served in the education trenches, I know whereof I speak.)
Said sexual activity, once largely confined to male teachers hitting on gullible and vulnerable female students, has in the last two decades become the shared province of female teachers. It seems that, fueled by their bubbling lust and our hypersexed society, they also want in on the action and to hell with the consequences.
We’ve all heard of certain infamous “ladies” of the classroom daytime who have made the papers by providing extra help to students above and beyond school district mandates.
There was the absolutely gorgeous Debra LaFave of Florida. Debs seduced and bedded a 14 year old boy when she was 23. She was considered too pretty to serve time in a jail “hell hole” so was punished for her indiscretions with home confinement. Sort of like school detention without homework assignments.
Then there was New Hampshire’s own Pamela Smart who belied her surname by seducing a 15 year old boy and assigned him to kill her hubby. Apparently unaware of a thing called divorce court, she’s serving a life sentence.
Finally, there was Seattle’s queen of lecherous ladies, Mary Kay Schmitz Letourneau Fualauu.
Mary Kay–no relation to the cosmetics people– had 4 kids with her spouse then went on to set all kinds of nasty records in the female teacher pedophiliac history book.
She first spied her prey in 2nd grade, landed him when he was 12, got a suspended sentence, violated her parole, bore him 2 kids, and served more time. She finally made an honest man of Vili Fualauu by marrying him after her husband divorced her for some reason.
Now there’s a new contender for the teacher-lecher throne, Michelle Simonson of Michigan. She, however, has a long way to go to catch up with the leaders of the cougar pack.
Michelle got caught up in the teen sexting craze even though she was 28. She allegedly sexted some 50 sexually suggestive messages to a 14 year old special ed student, including one of herself topless. She’s been charged with sexual abuse.
The report on Michelle, written by a woman, offers a slew of reasons for female predation: http://bit.ly/1aFazZ. (Pictures of 14 “women in trouble” can be viewed on that website.)
Usually, males apprehended in similar situations have been dispatched to prison with little concern for what made them do it.
It’s nice to see that Women’s Liberation has evened the playing field for women, so to speak.
