Rep. Allen West, American Hero

Allen Bernard West was a virtual unknown entity outside the U.S. Army before he burst on the political scene in the Republican rout of 2010 when he was elected the first GOP African-American congressman from Florida in 134 years.

West is also an un-sung American hero.

Although I had read Rep. West was a conservative and Tea Party supporter, I hadn’t known anything about his military record or his outspoken and heroic sense of patriotism until recently.

The 50 year old West, who followed generations of his family in joining the Army in 1983, served for 21 years in the 325th Airborne Battalion Combat Team, the 377th Field Artillery Regiment, and the First Infantry Division among other posts, saw action in both Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2004.

Those achievements alone command the respect and admiration of every American. On the other hand, the incident that led to his forced retirement deserves exposure as an example of our military’s official gutlessness and ignorance in conducting a war.

LTC West was relieved of his command after he was accused of assaulting an Iraqi prisoner in Taji suspected of plotting to ambush his men.

During intense combat, a few of those men under West’s command were captured and one suspected insurgent was also captured.

With the lives of American soldiers in danger and knowing what Iraqis customarily did to captives, when our interrogators were getting nowhere in locating the American prisoners, West forcefully demanded the Iraqi reveal the location of his soldiers. When he still refused, West placed his pistol near the prisoner’s crotch, fired, and advised him the next shot wouldn’t miss.

Evidently not as dumb as he looked and hoping to procreate more jihadists, the prisoner spilled his guts, the Americans were rescued, a jihadist-sympathizer alleged Lieutenant Colonel West had been guilty of misconduct, and the Army drummed him out.

The other day, Rush Limbaugh warned whomever eventually wins the Republican nomination for the presidency to be prepared for an avalanche of vicious assaults from the re-elect Obama billion dollar attack machine.

Limbaugh was wrong in one respect: That onslaught began months ago with the only distinction being that the viciousness is mostly emanating from Obama acolytes in his mainstream media rather than directly from the White House.

All this year, we have witnessed every Republican hopeful mercilessly pilloried as soon as he or she gains any traction in the GOP sweepstakes. Pawlenty, Trump, Christie, Bachmann, Gingrich, Cain have each had their turn being attacked. If a day goes by without some leftist guttersnipe taking unsubstantiated pot shots at a candidate, Leno and Letterman are ready to ridicule them at night with nasty derision–all in good fun, of course.

The only Republican to escape leftist castigation, relatively, has been Mitt Romney, leading to conjecture that the left wants him to win the nomination because they expect to whup him, just as Carterites were eager to get at Ronald Reagan.

What was it Obama said about the need for more civility? Evidently, the mainstreamers never got that memo.

One of the leaders of the MSM attack pack, the Washington Post, was apparently running out of ammunition with which to abuse the latest target, Newt Gingrich, so WaPo’s Aaron Blake resorted to the internet to gather more dirt. Blake tweeted for his fellow Twitter tweeps to send him all “outlandish/incorrect predictions and quotes” by or about Gingrich that they could dig up or make up.

Accounting for the Tea Party, the OWS, and Tim Tebow

In the first part of a series titled, “What Sets the Tea Party Apart,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks asks, “What is the difference between OWS and the Tea Party?” a rhetorical question tantamount to asking the reader to distinguish a cesspool from a cathedral.

Kibbe might as well have inquired as to the difference between the Occupy Wall Streeters and Denver Broncos’ much maligned quarterback, Tim Tebow, who hasn’t publicly identified himself as a Tea Party member but who clearly shares their philosophy– and their condemnation.

The chief problem with the Tea Party and Tebow in the eyes of their detractors is that they represent everything their detractors are not. As for the OWS mobs, they should study up on the conservative movement and the conservative quarterback after, as Newt Gingrich suggested, they get a job and take a bath.

Many on the Left like to draw parallels between the anti-taxation Tea Partiers and the anti-everything Occupiers in a futile attempt to give a degree of credibility and civility to the latter. The two groups are as dissimilar as cleanliness and dirt.

Kibbe cites the 18th century English philosopher-economist Adam Smith in presenting his argument that the Tea Party is “set apart,” distinctive from other social movements by virtue of its commitment to what Kibbe describes with a single word, “accountability . . . the moral basis that binds a community, allows for cooperation, and enables human prosperity.”

I would add that the stark absence of a sense of accountability, compounded by an even more gross disinterest in civilized behavior, render the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations irrelevant except, of course, to the lives they have negatively impacted.

Adam Smith expressed that sentiment far more elegantly: “The most sacred laws of justice, therefore, those whose violation seems to call loudest for vengeance and punishment, are the laws which guard the life and person of our neighbour; the next are those which guard his property and possessions.”

Though few are calling for “vengeance and punishment” for OWSers other than the enforcement of existing laws, the accountability factor is key to understanding the phenomenon of relatively small masses of people trampling on the rights of the vast majority.

Matt Kibbe sees the issue as the realization of a concept Tea Partiers genetically inherited from America’s Founders and Occupy Wall Street somehow missed: “Don’t hurt other people and don’t take their stuff.”

The Tea Party respects everyone and hurts no one.

The OWSers respect no one, hurt everyone including themselves and seize whatever “stuff” they can get their socialist, grubby hands on, from public park spaces to the rights of others to property and livelihoods while injuring those parks, those rights, properties, livelihoods, and themselves by their utter contempt for fundamental principles of personal and societal responsibility.

Tim Tebow’s principal responsibility on the football field is to win games for the Denver Broncos and, if he accidentally hurts anyone in the course of executing that duty, he would be contrite and apologetic since, well, that’s Tim Tebow.

He has admitted that he is also accountable to God, religion, and ethical dictates and that antiquated attitude toward morality rankles many in the sports world.

His critics have attacked Tebow’s athletic talents but what evidently bothers them most are other accountabilities. . .

Perhaps feeling they have little to lose at this stage of his failed presidency, Barack Hussein Obama and his band of merry mutilators of the American Dream have decided to risk everything and throw their lot in with the people who most closely represent the president’s political and social philosophies.

No, it’s not the labor unions whose support is in the bag as long as this administration endorses salary and benefits in lieu of fiscal sanity. No, it’s not African-Americans who though outwardly disenchanted with the president will still cast over 70% of their ballots for him next year. And no, it’s not his other core constituencies, the homosexuals, hispanics, Jews, and the Wall Street moneybaggers.

Obama knows that gays are still giddy over the repeal of DADT, hispanics are aware his failure to put legalizing illegals on the front burner is a ploy to be remedied in his second term, many Jews think he doesn’t really hate Israel, and that enough of the people he called “fat cats” will open their fat wallets sufficiently wide to enable him to fill his billion dollar campaign war chest.

Still, the Dems are taking a terrific gamble.

It may be that the dogmatic Obama and his ideologically-driven advisers are so consumed by their arrogant sense of Alinskyite superiority that they have been blinded to the folly of offering tacit approval and advocating for the nihilism of America’s nouveau hippies, the twenty-first century’s version of Woodstock, the so-called “Occupy Wall Street” crowd.

Dems are so confused over the protestors that pols such as Vice President Biden have compared them to the conservative Tea Party movement. Such a comparison only holds water if they somehow see similarities between the slovenly, insurrectionist, nihilistic Occupiers and the clean, respectful, patriotic Tea Partiers who wave American flags while the protestors wave dirty underwear.

Nevertheless, I hope the Obamians hang in there with their support. Their backing of the anarchic groups who have infested Zuccotti Park in New York City for weeks and their compatriots throughout the country is a virtual endorsement of next year’s Republican ticket.

Tuesday’s march movin’ on uptown to the deluxe pads of the rich in the sky won’t get them a piece of George Jefferson’s pie but should provide further insight into the extremist motives of the protestors and another boost to GOP prospects.

To be sure, the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators have some valid gripes; no society is perfect and any conscious human being has at least a few complaints, valid grievances over something or other. In a democratic republic, bellyaching is properly addressed at the ballot box.

Dueling Black Men: Herman Cain and Morgan Freeman

Barack Hussein Obama hasn’t even officially declared his intent to seek a second term but his attack machine is already deployed against the Republican Party with Teamsters President James Hoffa declaring all-out war against those “sons of bitches,” Vice President Biden labeling the GOP “barbarians,” and virtually every Democrat slandering Governor Rick Perry as “dumb” and accusing the Tea Party of racism and Nazism as the Anointed One remains above the fray by playing yet another round of golf.

It’s hard to believe it will get worse over the coming months, but it will. Conservative Republican candidate for the presidency Herman Cain can attest to that.

Following Cain’s speech at CPAC some months ago, Cain got a taste of the future when Alternet.com characterized him as a “monkey in the window” and when MSNBC’s Janeane Garafolo called him “a person of color” whose candidacy was manipulated solely for the purpose of deflecting “the racism that is inherent in the Republican party, the conservative movement, [and] the Tea Party.”

( Just incidentally, Janeane is looking more and more dissipated lately, the consequence of either her twisted leftism or, well, of being Janeane Garafolo, or both.)

If nothing else, it must be conceded that when liberals find hooks–such as racism and those damnable, Satanic Tea Partiers–they never let go. And now actor Morgan Freeman has joined the insane free-for-all.

Herman Cain suffered from racial discrimination in Georgia, went on to graduate from Morehouse College, earned a Masters of Science degree from Purdue, worked for the Department of the Navy, served as deputy chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve, authored four books, was the CEO of a major U.S. corporation, and supports the Tea Party.

Morgan Freeman left Mississippi to become an actor and doesn’t, yet he is accorded more credibility than Cain by the liberal media.

Now, why is that?

The 84 year old Freeman proved that singer Tony “Are We the Terrorists?” Bennett isn’t the only octogenarian who seems to have slipped into the dark abyss of senility.

In the interests of preserving his career, Bennett at least apologized for suggesting we caused 9/11 by bombing Muslims while Freeman has yet to apologize for his contention that Obama made racism worse in the United States, or his election did, or something like that by opening the door to, you guessed it, the racist Tea Party movement, or something like that.

Since he tended to ramble, it’s hard to tell eactly what Freeman meant as seen in the transcript of his chat with CNN’s Piers Morgan last Friday but what’s certain is that he firmly believes the Tea Party is “going to do whatever [they] can to get this black man outta here. It is a racist thing.”

Asked by the more politic and cogent Morgan, evidently trying to provide the actor with a gentle reality check, “Is it not Republicans, wouldn’t that [sic] say that about any Democrat president?” Freeman responded with a few headshakers, first saying, ”No, they would have gotten rid of Bill Clinton if they could have.”

Told by Morgan, “They tried,” Freeman rejoined, “They did try, but still. I don’t, they’re not going to get rid of Obama either. I think they’re shooting themselves in the head,” which, as we all know is far worse than shooting themselves in the foot. . .

The American tea party movement, the Tea Party, the TPM, was founded on two guiding emotions, frustration and fear, frustration with how governments regard and treat the governed, fear that our leaders and the taxation they imposed were out of control and driving us into bankruptcy.

Both feelings have been proven well-grounded in recent weeks as illustrated by the farcical debt ceiling agreement with its obvious cop-out, the superduper committee, the subsequent Standard and Poors credit downgrade, and the unprecedented stock market upheaval.

The Tea Party arose initially in 2009 as a populist reaction to mindless bailouts, ineffectual stimuli, and an unconstitutional government takeover of health care but has evolved into much more than the Taxed Enough Already Party, as some wags have labeled it. The Tea Party has aroused fear in the liberal hearts of misplaced RINOs in the Republican Party and in the quaking, lost souls of spendthrift Democrats.

Demonstrating that fear, the Left has adopted a policy of demonizing Tea Partiers and their movement as seen most recently by our odd vice president describing them as terrorists, then apologizing for that calumny knowing full well the terrorist label will stick and the apology will soon be forgotten.

Then, some shrink on the leftist MSNBC termed the Tea Party angry, delusional, potentially violent idealists and compared them to the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik all because they want fiscal sanity in a vast sea of financial dementia. (http://bit.ly/qj2TPT)

Talk about insanity!

Senate Majority Leader Reid was no less out of touch when he predicted the Tea Party would fade away like old soldiers and “will lose a number of seats next year.” Poor Harry has apparently forgotten the TPM only came into its own in 2010 with the conservative avalanche in Congress and refuses to acknowledge that, after two years its supporters have surpassed the number of liberals in the nation.

That latter, chilling news for Dems comes to us via Gallup polls conducted July 27 and August 2. Gallup announced yet another stake through the liberal heart in earlier polls which found that 41% of Americans consider themselves conservatives versus 21% still foolish enough to admit to being liberals. . .

The president received some bad news and some very good news on Tuesday. The inventor of the single, technological innovation that made Obama what he is today, Herbert J. “Hub” Schlafly, died and Tavis Smiley predicted the 2012 election would be “the most racist” ever.

Schlafly invented the teleprompter over 50 years ago to help soap actors remember their lines but politicians have utilized the device to even greater advantage, to give the illusion they are presenting memorized speeches whereas every word is spelled out for them on their teleprompters.

ABCNews.com is quick to point out that, “In truth, every President since Dwight D. Eisenhower, excepting Nixon, has used one for major speeches in Congress.” (http://abcn.ws/eTy1pn) However, ABC omits another, more relevant, truth that no president in history has used his trusty teleprompters as extensively for major and minor speeches, to Congress and to virtually anyone else who was listening.

One has to maintain the façade of oratorical eloquence when such a façade is created for one. Barack Hussein Obama owes a deep debt to gratitude to “Hub” Schlafly.

Obama also owes a debt of gratitude to Tavis Smiley, the ethnocentric African-American PBS host who alone gives reason to de-fund PBS. Smiley was all exercised last year over Obama’s failure to exclusively focus on the needs of blacks in America. As Smiley dramatically resolved, “I was compelled to [call for 'a black agenda'] because of this debate” and called together a blue ribbon panel to discuss the matter.

Taxes, Taxes, Taxes!

For those residing under rocks or in Neverland, on or about April 15th, you will be expected to pony up an excessively high percentage of your hard-earned income to Uncle Sam or to his state and municipal imitators.

Of course, if you’re among the 35% or so of Americans who are living scotfree of income taxes, you’re “in like Flynn” on April 15th, exempt from what Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. called, “the price we pay for civilization,” what 21st century taxpayers would call an inordinate charge, which taxpayers would call the people who don’t pay any income taxes leeches.

What better word describes people who suck at the public teat and who contribute nothing toward the the sustenance of that teat?

Still, there’s even more bad news for us honest taxpayers: For those who haven’t noticed, income taxes are just the beginining. In governmental sleights of hand designed to make us schlups think the IRS and its state counterparts are the only governmental pocket-pickers and to convince us that taxes are really in the public’s best interests, the feds, states, and localities have cooked up all kinds of thievery.

Take, for instance, what are termed “sin taxes,” financial penalties for what bureaucrats deem activities detrimental to our health and moral well being. Testimony to political hypocrisy, the imposition of such behavioral taxes presupposes the moral superiority of the imposers who, all too often, are imposters.

The Dolans cite levies on liquor, gambling, and smoking but include in other categories taxes on equally “sinful” pursuits such as strip shows and the like as well as taxes on those who indulge in a friendly game of poker with playing cards. . .

Some people are just slow learners.

The New York Republican Party establishment, in which “Rockefeller Republicans” still hold sway, falls into that category. Someone should remind them of what happened nationwide on November 2nd when a resurgent conservative movement gave notice that there was a resurgent conservative movement.

You may recall that old brand of liberal, pseudo-Republicanism dating back to the late fifties which included such illuminati as Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javits, and Louis Lefkowitz who were all confirmed RINOs long before the term was created. To a man, they opposed Barry Goldwater for president in 1964 and managed over the years to make the New York Republican Party indistinguishable from the Democrats.

Back in 2009, new age RINOs demonstrated they still knew how to win elections–for Democrats. Then, the New York Conservative Party nominated Doug Hoffman for Congress in a special election in the upstate 23rd CD. Backed by Sarah Palin and the Tea Party and opposed by confirmed RINO Dede Scozzafava and by GOP bigwigs, Hoffman was the clear favorite.

Long story short: Scozzafava dropped out of the race, appropriately on Halloween, endorsed Democrat Bill Owen, and Owen won by 2.3%

Fast forward to 2011 and another upstate special election, in New York’s 26th CD, the seat vacated by Chris Lee after he opted to audition as a centerfold instead of continuing as a congressman. . .

Obama’s nominee for the position of Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Anthony K. Jones, withdrew his name from consideration last year after calling Republicans “a**holes” in a speech at Berkeley and then having his racist, radical past outed.

However, as vermin tend to do, he has again crawled out from under the woodwork. A walking, talking testimonial to the patent absurdity and overtly racist policy of affirmative action, the black “green czar” wannabe is in the news again.

This time around he denounced the Tea Party and its threat to all things Obamian with his characteristic lies and distortions. ”If you think things are bad now,” he bellowed, ”what will happen when the people who are screaming and yelling at these Tea Party events are actually in charge of your government, and in charge of your life, and in charge of your kids’ future? . . . I don’t think you want the Tea Party running your community, running your family, running your government. . .

. . . However, this is not about the Tea Party. This is about a Tea Party candidate and her campaign for the Republican Party nomination for the office of United States Senator from the great state of Delaware, Christine O’Donnell.

No relation to Rosie, thank God! Christine is an attractive and personable New Jersey native who has articulated very distinctive and, for 2010, somewhat unorthodox views which put her at odds with the RINO establishment types. Many of them would be more at ease with a Rosie O’Donnell candidacy than with Christine O’Donnell’s.

Christine’s conservative views with regard to personal chastity as well as vicious personal attacks are now being used to defeat her in the same way they were used against Sarah Palin, an early and prime supporter.

That’s a good thing, really. A sure sign of liberal-Democrats’ gut fear of a candidate is the gutter level of their attacks.

Whether it was Christine’s personal philosophy and viewpoints or her Tea Party endorsement and backing that effectively turned off the RINOs, she was treated as a virtual pariah by the establishment types before the primary with RINO stalwart and former Delaware governor, “moderate” Mike Castle. Castle could never seem to figure out if he was a Democrat or Republican yet he was backed by the RINOs. . .

Let’s face it. As a group, conservatives are too often weenies, just too damned meek for their own good.

Granted, the second Beatitude reads, “The meek shall inherit the Earth” but before that can happen we have to battle defamation, promote truth, challenge the defamers, and win elections. Humility, docility, and submissiveness just won’t cut it nowadays.

With virtually the entirety of the mainstream media on the other side, it’s no easy task to battle, promote, and challenge the left, the liberals, the “progressives” so it’s good to see some degree of resistance and retaliation such as that demonstrated yesterday by the Tea Party.

That much-maligned, amorphous and diverse collection of Americans, blacks, whites, elders, young people, Democrats, Republicans, independents, libertarians, and moderates are concerned primarily about excessive taxation, (TEA=Taxed Enough Already), big government and everything associated with big government including its primary exponent, President Barack Obama.

It is the Tea Party’s opposition to Obama that has inspired most of the brickbats hurled its way.

Even before Obama’s election, it was widely expected that any criticism of the president would be contorted into charges of racism . . .

A classic, deceptive rhetorical device involves asking if your opponent has stopped beating his wife yet. The question presupposes that he has beaten his wife in the past and thereby a yes or no response condemns the opponent as a wife-beater.

Nice trick.

Vice President Joe Biden used a variation on the wife-beating trick in his ostensible defense of the Tea Party movement as not a “racist organization” a cute, deceptive rhetorical device. It presupposes that at least some people believe the Tea Party is in fact a racist organization and for those who hadn’t heard that slander, it serves to get it out on the public table.

As he said on “This Week,” with typically-jumbled syntax, ”The truth is that at least elements that were involved in some of the Tea Party folks have expressed racist views. We saw that on television . . . There are individuals who are either members of or on the periphery of some of their things . . . that have expressed really unfortunate comments:” http://tiny.cc/8h7ws

He didn’t explain and wasn’t asked what he saw on TV.

Nor did he criticize outright racism as it exists in the administration’s own Justice Department . . .

Just as a ham sandwich can be indicted with a little effort, any poll can be skewed depending on the pre-conceived notions of the poll takers, the wording of the questions, the tone of the questioners, etc.

With that in mind, when a political poll is conducted by CBS News and the New York Times it’s immediately suspect. When the subject of that poll is the participants in the TEA Party phenomenon now sweeping the nation, one should always take the results with a hefty grain of salt.

Nevertheless, the results are interesting even given the decidedly leftist nature of the pollsters.

Based on 1580 respondents in a random telephone sample. of whom 56% were TEA Party supporters, the poll was conducted April 5th-12th. Some of the highlights: . . .

Franklin was semi-correct in his observation, in the death part, but though taxes are always with us the rates are always negotiable in a civilized society thus adding a degree of uncertainty.

The Obama administration commented on death without ever using the word. In the context of a nuclear attack on the United States we were reminded, (just reminded, mind you), that local agencies should and would be the first responders and decimated cities shouldn’t expect to see the feds on hand for 72 hours or more.

The reader may recall the uproar over FEMA’s slow response in the aftermath of Katrina when President G.W. Bush was lambasted for doing a flyover over New Orleans and commending FEMA head Michael Brown (”Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job”). President Obama seems to want to forestall any such criticism by warning local officials not to expect any “significant federal response” for up to four days if they were nuked.

Barry, you’re doing a heck of an advance job.

It’s bad enough that Obama was talking about the unthinkable, a terrorist nuclear attack on an American city, but he gives fair warning that the surviving victims would be on their own for a good few days. Brownie screwed up after massive flooding; Barry is planning to screw up after a mushroom cloud rises above NYC or LA or SF or DC.

Some 1836 people died from Katrina, a horrendous toll. Tens of thousands would be killed in a nuclear blast but fear not, says the White House in a guide posted online and sent to local officials, in effect saying you guys will be just fine until we get around to you.

And what would that blast do? “A 10-kiloton nuclear explosion would level buildings within half a mile of ground zero, generate 900-mph winds, bathe the landscape with radiation and produce a plume of fallout that would drift for hundreds of miles, the guide says.” That would be followed by chaos so the plan is for the feds to hang back until things were more settled: http://bit.ly/agkd93

“We the People”

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Those stirring 52 words of the Preamble to America’s Constitution, which has been called the most perfect political document in the history of man, are words which many of us have forgotten and which many of our leaders have abandoned.

They assert the rights of “the people” to seek perfection in our system of governing and government even though the framers understood perfection was beyond the reach of man. They call for justice and peace within our borders, security from foreign invasion, and the well-being of our people. They seek freedom now and freedom for our future citizenry under the guidelines set forth in our Constitution.

Drafted in 1787 and adopted in 1789 by the 13 original states, in the year Anno Domini 2010, 221 years later, we have lost our way.

Eighty-two percent of NBA players are Black. In the NHL, 99.97% of the players have been White. One hundred percent of contestants in the Miss Black America Pageant are Black. All popes have been White Christians.

Relevance of such percentages in supposedly post-racial America in 2010? None, except maybe to people such as arch-liberal MSNBC commentator, Chris Matthews.

The other day Matthews incorrectly alleged that activists in the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party were exclusively Caucasian or, as he said, “And they’re monochromatic right? . . . Every picture I see shows them to be . . . Meaning they’re all white. All of them, every single one of them is white:” http://bit.ly/4nYQ13

Well, no, not exactly, Chris. Maybe that’s just your perception based on the extremely limited coverage of TEA Party demonstrations such as the ones last April 15th and September 12th not covered by dying, liberal “news” networks such as your own and CNN.

Or maybe it’s your obsession with race? . . .

A D.C. Tea Party

. . . September 12th will mark a different rally and march, a much different expression of our God-given and constitutional rights.

It will be a demonstration not of narrow demands but, essentially, of an American call to arms, not to literal weaponry but of people concerned over the future of our country. That future is being clouded and threatened by a radical administration bent on destroying all that this nation has ever been and all that we could be.
