Murderers, Scapegoats, and Terrorists

Murderers, Scapegoats, and Terrorists

On its face, murder is an abominable crime. Taking another human life involves an abject surrender of one’s own humanity and a total disregard for the sanctity of human life.

Civilized societies today occasionally legally execute convicted reprobates but only after due process and often decades of appeals. Unethical societies treat accused murderers differently, as in the cases of Sgt. Robert Bales and Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

By all accounts, Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales was an outstanding, highly-decorated soldier, respected and praised by the men in his command.

Before he enlisted shortly after the Muslim terrorist attacks on 9/11, Bales was universally admired by his friends and neighbors. When he was not deployed in battle–three stints in Iraq where he sustained a traumatic brain injury and the loss of part of his foot and recently sent to Afghanistan–Bales lived life as a loving father of two at home with his wife in Washington state.

If the charges of murdering defenseless Afghans, including women and children, are sustained and he is convicted, Sgt. Bales should receive a suspended sentence on the basis of temporary insanity and extreme post-traumatic stess disorder. Better yet, he should be set free today!

Aside from political considerations, chiefly placating the Afghanis and President Hamid Karzai who considers American soldiers “demons,” there is no rational excuse for our military to further punish Bales for actions committed while he was obviously crazed by repeated and intimate exposure to the horrors of war.

He is alleged in the mainstream media to have left his Kandahar base and drunkenly slaughtering 16 innocent people, much as Iraqis and Afghanis have been soberly slaughtering thousands of American troops, many of whom are currently in Afghanistan building roads, schools, and hospitals.

Although Sgt. Bales has not yet been officially charged with the crimes and is now in solitary confinement at Fort Leavenworth, many military-hating American Leftists have already tried, convicted, and scapegoated him, mainly on the basis Bales is a courageous military man, and we all know how the Left abhors the military.

Sgt. Bales’ case stands in remarkable contrast to the matter of Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan who, on November 5th, 2009, allegedly, murdered 13 innocent, defenseless people and wounded 30at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

Twenty-eight months later, Hasan has yet to come to trial. The carnage he caused was witnessed by dozens of objective observers and, despite evidence he was inspired by Islamist extremists such as Anwar Al-Awlaki to perpetrate the atrocity, our government chose to categorize Hasan’s actions as “workplace violence.” . . .

A Remembrance: Jesse Dirkhising Would Be 25

A Remembrance: Jesse Dirkhising Would Be 25

Jesse William Dirkhising of Prairie Grove, Arkansas was a child of just 13 years when he met his untimely death on September 26th, 1999at the hands of Davis Don Carpenter and Joshua Brown. The tragedy of Jesse’s unspeakably violent murder goes far beyond his passing and the ignominious nature of how he suffered in the process.

The tragedy encompasses society’s disregard for his death when it happened and its failure to remember him and his life after.

The brutality of Jesse’s sadistic torture and murder by the perverted homosexuals Carpenter and Brown wasn’t salved by their convictions and sentences of life imprisonment. The passage of 12 years hasn’t provided any degree of closure, as if that currently-popular term ever has any meaning.

If anything, the continued, studied indifference of the mainstream media toward his death only exacerbates the wounds.

I try to pay annual deference to the memory of Jesse Dirkhising not because it will arouse the MSM to accord his murder retrospective acknowledgement but because he deserves some recognition in a world which would have made him a cause célèbre had his homicide been an act which society abhorred as much as that committed against other innocent victims.

Such a cause was Matthew Shepard.

Shepard’s vicious killing the previous year by two drunken sots in Wyoming evoked media attention the likes of which has rarely been witnessed and resulted in passage of “hate crime” legislation in Washington which now bears Shepard’s name. Jesse’s far more horrific murder gained barely a mention. . .

Casey Anthony's Missed Opportunity

Casey Anthony's Missed Opportunity

Despite millions of opinions, only one person on the planet knows for certain whether Casey Marie Anthony murdered her 3 year old daughter, Caylee.

As Casey remains in hiding following her Sunday release she might be ruminating on what really happened three years ago but is certainly mulling over both her future options and her past mistakes.

Her future is cloudy at best.

Rumors are circulating she may study law or become a porn star, neither of which is probable. She has allegedly been offered a million dollars for a “tell all” story, her veracity to be confirmed via a polygraph. She can never again be tried for Caylee’s death due to strictures against double jeopardy and would have nothing to lose, except for what’s left of her reputation.

Innocent or not, she has already entered the annals of American criminal folklore, taking her place alongside Lizzie Borden, who was also acquitted. Illustrative of her new status, a Kentucky carnival featured a dunking booth and a Casey Anthony impersonator. For a buck a throw, attendees could register their own verdicts.

The “tasteless and tacky” attraction was shut down after a day, which is a gross understatement. (http://on.today.com/o4PPS5)

Impervious to understatement is the view that, in retrospect, the 25year old former party animal has made any number of critical mistakes in her short life.

Getting pregnant by a still undisclosed sperm donor has to be high on her error-list as are her gross misjudgments following Caylee’s mysterious disappearance. Entirely from the perspective of the grief she caused herself and a host of others, Casey Anthony must now and during her darkest hours contemplate how she could have avoided all that grief by aborting Caylee in the womb. . .

Mayhem in Tucson I: When Libs Trip Out

Mayhem in Tucson: When Libs Trip Out

. . . It’s not a pretty picture, especially for anyone who still naively believes the mainstream media and public officials are in any way objective, and do keep in mind that what follows is merely a smattering of distorted leftist propaganda.

Former sportscaster and current MSNBC political commentator Keith Olbermann, who was caught and very temporarily suspended, for all of two days in November for violating MSNBC’s minimal standards of professional conduct, weighed in with his usual feigned profundity on the daytime nightmare in Tucson.

Being the professional that he still thinks he is, Olbermann pleaded with his paltry audience of ”Countdown” viewers not to seek “payback or revenge” against conservatives ”who have so irresponsibly brought us to this time of domestic terrorism” and “put the guns down.” He also called for the banishment of Sarah Palin from the Republican Party, banishment being the more PC sunbstitute for execution.

See Olbermann’s dripping-with-sincerity, moronically presumptuous and fatuous commentary, here: http://tiny.cc/c7kg1

Drippy Olbermann makes reference in that commentary to a supporter of his point of view, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, the unofficial anti-Sheriff Joe Arpaio Arizona official.

Unlike Sheriff Joe, the self-proclaimed and duly worthy “toughest sheriff in America,” which rep has earned Arpaio the enmity of the Obama administration and illegal aliens everywhere, Sheriff Dupnik may be said to have earned the title of the “wimpiest sheriff in America.” . . .

Jesse Dirkhising, 13, Tyler Clementi, 18, Matthew Shepard, 21

Jesse Dirkhising, 13, Tyler Clementi, 18, Matthew Shepard, 21

Every year around this time I like to commemorate the too brief life of Jesse William Dirkhising mainly because, outside of his family and friends, few remember Jesse who died at age 13. Fewer yet recall how he died, and a certain segment chooses not to remember.

Another death recently consumed the mass media as well as the blogosphere so that, by now, given that extensive local and national publicity, most people have heard of Tyler Clementi.

His abbreviated life and untimely death have been the subject of countless vigils and memorials and countless stories on every medium, stories that mourn the waste of a life and which attempt to imagine the unspeakable anguish Tyler must have felt, probably not so much at being discovered in homosexual assignations at New Jersey’s Rutgers University in late September but far more so at having been videotaped and knowing those videos were posted on the internet.

That realization drove Tyler to commit suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge.

Perhaps excessively so, after his body washed up days later in northern Manhattan and he was identified, Tyler became something of a mass media cause celebre’, an exemplar of what could happen to gays as a result of anti-homosexual bias and discrimination.

His suicide is now being widely exploited by gay websites as a figurative call to arms in protest of anti-gay bullying and mistreatment of homosexuals but, in all fairness, it should be pointed out that it was not bias and discrimination at the very progressive Rutgers U. that caused Tyler to take his own life. His own personal choices caused that tragedy.

Since he left no suicide note aside from a cryptic “Facebook” post–”Jumping off the the gw bridge sorry”–Tyler Clementi’s motivation will never be known with absolute certainty and it can only be assumed to have been mortification over the publicizing of his homosexual indiscretions that resulted in his suicide.

Tyler Clementi’s death at 18 inversely relates to the death of Jesse Dirkhising who died at age 13 on September 26, 1999. . .

"She-Devil" Amanda Knox Gets Sued

"She-Devil" Amanda Knox Gets Sued

As if she didn’t have enough on her plate and in her aborted life, Amanda Knox is now being sued and may have to stand trial for alleging Italian police “roughed her up” during their investigation into the grisly 2007 rape and murder of Knox’ British roommate, Meredith Karcher, in Perugia, Italy.

Self-described “Foxy Knoxy,” a “She-Devil” to the Italian press, Amanda Knox was found guilty of complicity in that murder and sentenced to 26 years in prison. She has 25 more to go and when she’s released will be a middle-aged woman, her youthful beauty gone, her youth gone, her future dismal.

With this new development of being sued by her captors, Knox is said to be depressed and “less serene:” http://tiny.cc/kbuyw. She’s fortunate not to be stark raving mad at this point.

I’m not totally convinced Ms. Knox directed or participated in Meredith’s murder, partially because I can’t fathom any young girl with no violence in her background and hailing from a decent family perpetrating that horrendous act.

I also don’t buy it partially because her prosecution and her chief prosecutor were gravely flawed and her riveting and sensationalized trial devolved into a veritable circus in a poisoned atmosphere with the public in both Italy and England clamoring for a young American’s head on a platter. . .

Justifiable Murder? Who Was George Tiller?

Justifiable Murder? Who Was George Tiller?

Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity! (”Bartleby the Scrivener,” Herman Melville)

That fatalistic sense of imminent doom, of forlorn despair and depression over one’s life and over the state of the human animal for different reasons must have afflicted both George Tiller and the man who killed him last May, Scott Roeder.

Roeder, according to his ex-wife, was upset over his inability to pay bills; he went from job to job seeking something, anything, that would fulfill his failed life and give it purpose.

He finally settled on what he saw as the greatest evil in America that he felt was in his power to somehow rectify: abortion. A particular purpose he embraced was fellow Kansan Tiller and Tiller’s chosen occupation of snuffing out the lives of infants in partial birth abortions.

Dr. George Tiller was living a life that was the virtual antithesis of Roeder’s, but was he any less disturbed?

A physician son of an abortionist with an inherited and successful abortion practice, he was married and active in his new church, the Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita.

Indeed, almost every account of his murder includes within the first few paragraphs the fact he was killed while serving as an usher, handing out church bulletins in the lobby after Sunday services when Roeder accosted him, put one bullet into his eye and fled.

What’s rarely included in obituaries or articles on the slain Dr. Tiller is that he was handing out those bulletins at Reformation Lutheran because he had been excommunicated from his previous church, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod: http://bit.ly/awWKwL

That latter church had expelled him because of the nature of his medical practice at Women’s Health Care Services. . .

Amy Bishop, Leftist Oddball

Amy Bishop, Leftist Oddball

When the Boston Herald calls a committed leftist and Obama lover such as accused murderess Amy Bishop an “oddball” in a headline either it’s time to sit up and take notice or the Herald is being misquoted.

Actually, neither is the case. There’s still no need to pay much attention to that newspaper and “oddball” is no misquote, it’s just taken from the statement of a Bishop co-worker.

That same acquaintance, Sylvia Fluckiger, described Bishop as grinning when discussing a still-unsolved 1993 case involving a double pipe bomb mailed to the home of a Harvard M.D. with whom she was known to argue: http://bit.ly/aK0BRB

She’s not grinning anymore.

Ms. Bishop, a “research star,” who received mixed reviews from her students and who had been denied tenure, was beyond odd even before she allegedly murdered three colleagues and wounded three at the University of Alabama at Huntsville last Friday.

In addition to the current allegations of murder and the grinning episode, in 1986 she admitted to accidentally murdering her 18 year old brother but wasn’t charged.

That “incident” happened in liberal Braintree, Massachusetts and the case may now be re-opened.

Sixteen years later, in 2002 she assaulted another patron in an IHOP over a booster seat, punching the woman in the head while screaming, “I am Dr. Amy Bishop!” . . .

Two Murders, Selective Outrage

Tiller and Pouillan: Two Murders, Selective Outrage

When abortionist Dr. George Tiller was murdered in May because the good doctor practiced infanticide by aborting full-term babies, the abortion lobby went ballistic, the president issued a statement of his shock and outrage, and Attorney General Holder called out the National Guard to protect abortionists nationwide.

Ok, that last is hyperbolic; Holder merely dispatched federal marshalls to protect abortionists nationwide. The point is that there was an uproar.

Called “Tiller the Killer” by some pro-life activists, Dr. Tiller had maintained one of only two practices in the nation dedicated to performing “late term abortions.” His senseless murder evoked widespread horror from groups which concurred with such infanticide as well as from the president of the United States.

(See “A Postscript for Dr. George Tiller,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=1045, and “Murder in the Church,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=1043 for more detail on Tiller’s murder.)

Last Friday, 63 year old James Lawrence Pouillan was murdered outside Owasso (Michigan) High School.

Google his name and you get all of one story, a brief Facebook statement by the American Family Association: “A peaceful prolife activist, James Pouillon, was murdered this morning as he peacefully displayed a sign depicting a smiling child below the word ‘Life.’ Mr. Pouillan, 63, was by all accounts a friendly and likeable man who was dedicated to protecting the lives of the unborn through peaceful demonstration. Please pray for Mr. Pouillan’s family.”

From the White House, no expression of shock and outrage, not a peep in a week. From AG Holder, no National Guard and no federal marshalls dispatched to protect Right to Lifers nationwide. . . .

Phil Spector: Justice, American Style

Phil Spector, Justice Served, Justice Denied

What do you do with a girl named Maria? Compared to the question of what do you do with a prisoner named Phil Spector, the answer is challenging. In Spector’s case, you give him whatever he wants!

Spector was finally convicted of second degree murder of a defenseless woman, six years after the fact and almost two years after his first trial ended in a hung jury. All the while the accused killer was free on a one-million-dollar bail.

Sentenced to 19 years, the 69 year old Spector is serving his time in a private cell at the medium security California State Prison at Corcoran, in the “sensitive-needs” section.

However, it seems that in addition to being sensitive, he’s an unhappy camper/inmate. He wants some bennies, some amenities to make prison life more comfy and tolerable.

Word is he will get them: http://bit.ly/7s87R.

Anyway, it’s not as if he committed treason or a crime against society or anything like that. He merely snuffed out the life of a woman by putting one of his various pistols in her mouth and pulling the trigger, only once though.

Granted, too, his victim, model and actress Lana Clarkson, wasn’t the brightest crayola in the box . . .
