Ominous News on Our Doorstep, on Our Horizon
There was a time in America in the not very distant past when things were very different.
Just a few decades ago, we were respected in the international community, rarely loved, sometimes hated, but usually respected. There was a time when America had a secure border which defined us as a nation, when we felt free to voice our opinions without being condemned as bigots, when government functioned in the interests of the governed, a time when we were a free and sovereign nation not subject to the vagaries and enmities of the 191 other countries in the United Nations.
That time and those times are long past and not solely because of a single political party or one politician, although our current president has far outdone the others, busily undermining not only our economy but everything the United States of America has stood for, starting with our status as a country worthy of respect.
Last Thursday we saw a vivid example of international disrespect that would never have occurred in the past: A contingent of of Mexico’s Secretaria de Seguridad Publica federal police force perpetrated an incursion onto American soil not seen since the insolence of Santa Anna during the Mexican War.
Santa Anna was crushed in the battle of San Jacinto but last week Mexican forces showed their contempt for that American victory and for the American nation.
An El Paso witness reported that Mexican police fired at American hunters on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande and other Mexicans followed that attack “with automatic weapons into the U.S. side . . . stole hunters’ chairs and drove back into Mexico.”
Our authorities are investigating the incident but aside from the theft of a few chairs, will they investigate the temerity of Mexicans invading our nation? Not likely, since we have already granted carte blanche to them and everyone else to violate our borders, thumb their noses at the United States–and steal our chairs.
Almost worse, some Americans are now so terrified of political incorrectness that they have sacrificed lives on the PC altar.
Former-Democrat, now Independent, always-liberal Connecticut’s Senator Joe Lieberman has offered the very valid opinion that had it not been for fear of being labeled prejudiced Muslim Major Nidal Hasan wouldn’t have been able to kill and maim innocent people at Fort Hood in 2009. . .

What Stinks Worse? Ethanol or Sean Penn?
What Stinks Worse? Ethanol or Sean Penn?
It’s difficult to say whether ethanol or Sean Penn smells worse. It’s all dependent on your olfactory, political, and occupational sensibilities.
If you’re an American consumer of crude oil, which category would incorporate everyone who drives, consumes produce and manufactured products delivered via road and rail, wards off frigid cold with #2 heating oil in your homes, or labors in a factory/office kept functioning thanks to semi-liquid gold, you may say that ethanol takes the stink prize.
If you cook with corn oil, use masa harina, or just love tortillas, ethanol should beat Sean Penn in the stink run by at least a mile since the brainstorm of conservationists and numbnuts at the EPA which inspired the idea of converting a valuable food staple, corn, into ethyl alcohol biofuel and blending up to 10% of the stuff into gasoline has sent the price of corn into the stratosphere.
And, notice what it’s done for gas prices!
Ostensibly re-introduced, (after Henry Ford gave up on the idea almost a century ago), to curb America’s dependence on foreign oil imports, another government failure, ethanol has evolved into a typical, wasteful boondoggle. It serves to enrich farm states and has made major political capital for pols in those states while helping to impoverish those needing gasoline to survive and those dependent on corn to eat.
A remarkably slow-learner in our un-scientific survey on whether ethanol or Sean Penn stink more, the Hollywood star would be the sure winner among those who appreciate second-rate acting and off-camera demonstrations of total ignorance.
As noted here in an earlier article, “BiofuelsWatch.com has enumerated the numerous negatives associated with ethanol production and use. They include the explosive danger, (it’s more flammable than gasoline), its solvent, drying, and water-absorbent properties which can lead to engine contamination and the disintegration of rubber and plastic, its lower energy value, its irritant and cancer-causing potential, its greater expense, and, primarily, its effect on food production.” (http://bit.ly/kwcHWa)
As an added ironic fillip to the ethanol controversy, in the face of Republican efforts to put an end to federal subsidies promoting increased ethanol production by decreasing food production, the United States Department of Agriculture added a dumb insult to serious injury by announcing a push for more “flex-fuel [ethanol] pumps” at filling stations. (http://bit.ly/m0NtHb)
There’s nothing quite like enhancing the ridiculous with the totally absurd. Maybe Mexicanos and Taco Bell can learn to substitute feather grass for maize.
Sean Penn, who makes Ben Affleck and Charlie Sheen look smart, is notable as an admirer of Cuba’s Castros, hater of George W, Bush, defender of the LGBT, and savior of New Orleans and Haiti,. . .

Mexicans in America: Tercera Parte: Criminal Activities
Mexicans in America: Criminal Elements
Yesterday’s installment of this re-published series focused on Aztlan, the mythical place; today’s Part Three deals with the criminals in that very real place, the United States.
Mexicans, El Salvadorans, Guatemalans, any Hispanics and, indeed, most people of any nationality are fundamentally good people. At least, that’s what I firmly believe.
I’ve also said that if I were in their positions of poverty and deprivation and if I had the opportunity to sneak into another country which happened to be rich by my standards, I probably would do it. If that were the only way I could provide for my family, as illegal as it may be, I’d give it a shot and risk arrest, deportation, and imprisonment, though imprisonment would be rare if I snuck into the United States.
Chances are, if I were apprehended for violating American immigration laws, I’d be fed a meal then packed off to my native country, enabling me to try, try, try again until I made it into the Land of the Gringos where I could earn some dollars to FedEx back home to be converted into pesos so that my wife and kids could eat and be a tad more comfortable.
Whether it would be via a restaurant job, a farm job, a factory job, I would consider myself, and my family, fortunate. I guess I’d pass at nannying, but who knows? . . .

Mexicans in America: Segunda Parte--MEChA
Mexicans in America: Segunda Parte--MEChA
Yesterday’s first installment of this re-published series focused on Aztlan, the mythical place; today’s Part Two deals with the movement called MEChA.
I’ve personally seen illegals in action and I can say that Mexicans, and most other Latinos, are damned hard workers.
Whether they arrived via wading across the Rio Grande or by running across the Sonoran or Chihuahuan Deserts, by being trucked in, or by any other means, their entrance onto our shores was not an easy one, in most cases. From the southwest they then migrated north and east and west and take jobs that Americans, we are told, don’t want, from farm laborers, to factory workers, to restaurant workers, even nannies.
If I were in their positions in their home countries, immersed in poverty and politically corrupt regimes, their families barely eking out existences in fetid cities and on dismal farms, I would probably do the same, that is, illegally enter that rich nation of the gringos, work hard, live meagerly, and ship bundles of American dollars back home to help keep their loved ones alive. . .

Mexicans in America: Primera Parte--Aztlan
Mexicans in America: Primera Parte--Aztlan
. . . “MEChA, an acronym for the separatist Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or the Student Movement for Aztlan, has chapters in ninety-percent of California’s high schools and colleges. Their stated goal is to re-claim America’s Southwest and other areas for Mexico and to re-establish the kingdom of Aztlan, the mythical place of origin of the Aztecs, “after they emerged from the bowels of the Earth through seven caves.” (Quoted from Aztlan.net. That MEChAn website indicates it is “published in Los Angeles, California USA (Aztlan).” Incidentally, the national symbol for MEChA is a fierce eagle wielding a machete and a stick of dynamite.”

Sotomayor and La Raza
Excellent cases can be made both for confirmation of Appeals Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court and for filibustering her into submission and ultimate withdrawal such as the Democrat minority did to George W. Bush’s pick for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Judge Miguel Estrada.
It may be recalled that the eminently-qualified Estrada was eventually beaten down because of one serious flaw in his resume’. He was so abused that Estrada’s wife may have died shortly after as a consequence.
As with Sotomayor, he too had a compelling history and was a Hispanic nominee but unlike Sotomayor, he suffered from the terminal malady of unreconstructed conservativism and thus was totally unacceptable to fair-minded Senate liberals.
If they didn’t exactly “Bork” him, they trashed and distorted his record sufficiently to make the guy surrender in frustration. Estrada subsequently entered private practice.
Unlike Sotomayor, Estrada had no unseemly affiliations in his background, although some would allege that Sotomayor’s associations are quite seemly, especially that with La Raza.
This is all but moot anyway since Barack Obama’s choice to fill the shoes of David Souter is a shoo-in and, as I previously argued, it would be counterproductive and a waste of effort and ammunition to go after Sotomayor. See “Save the Ammo and Confirm Sonia,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=1034. Hence, any discussion of Sonia Sotomayor at this point is irrelevant.
What is worth further investigation, however, is La Raza, a group of which Sotomayor is a member and which proudly published her 2001 speech. In that lecture/speech she said in her infamously racist and stupid fashion, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life:” http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=99420.
The National Council of la Raza, the Race, en Ingles, the NCLR, lapped it up....
