Old Heraclitus knew the only constant was change. Most moderns also perceive the undeniable truth that nothing stands still and that nothing endures indefinitely. One need only refer to politicians to understand the mutability of their most deep-seated beliefs.

Take America’s distinctly non-Heraclitean Vice President Joseph Robinette Biden. Good Ol’ Joe has never been at a loss for words, especially when he can mangle them and his thoughts better than his boss or when he can simply be obtuse.

Like his boss, his beliefs and opinions are written on the wind and he was markedly windy when, among other utterances, and after deep study of the Constitution, he eruditely concluded that, ”The Founding Fathers had vested the power to authorize even the limited use of military force in the Congress not the president—unless it was necessary for the president to act swiftly to repel an attack on the United States or to rescue U.S. citizens:” http://bit.ly/h8uSRp

That was then, in 1998 as the senior senator from the State of Delaware. Now, as VP during the reign of Obama, he remains eerily silent as the president launches an undeclared war in Lybia without so much as an obeisance, a request for a consult, or a May I? from Congress. For all his faults, GWB did his constitutional duty with Iraq and Afghanistan and received the advice and consent of Congress before going to war.

The more things change, the more Joe changes as does President Changeling, the constitutional scholar, who also flipflopped on the Constitution last weekend.

When asked on December 20th, 2007 during his campaign for the presidency when a president “would have the authority to bomb Iran without first seeking authorization from Congress,” candidate Obama was adamant in declaring virtually never: “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation:” http://bit.ly/eGkLhT

George W. Bush was commander in chief in December 2007, Barack Hussein Obama in March 2011. Either Libya was about to attack America last week or Obama acted in violation of the Constitution when we hurled Tomahawk missiles at Khadafy. Or, everyone, including members of his own party, are misreading the law of the land.

Let’s face it. Democrats have no soul and no conscience. Two instances:

Lame Ducks: In an announcement that will go down alongside the announcement that Barack Obama is the most liberal-leftist-fraudulent president in American history, Nancy Pelosi’s House of Misrepresentatives and Harry Reid’s Pusillanimous Senate will meet in a lame duck session two weeks after the midterm elections to perpetrate more damage to the Republic and to the American people.

Knowing this Democrat Congress’ proven commitment to foisting unwanted, unneeded, and harmful legislation on the country, it’s no surprise that Pelosi and Reid plan to use the seven weeks from November 15th, 2010 until the next Congress is seated on January 3rd, 2011 to push through laws they weren’t able to pass before Election Day.

As preposterous as it may sound four weeks out, Dick Morris is predicting ”the obliteration of a generation of Democrats” come November. As he wrote, ”Thanks to the leadership of President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid, the Democratic Party is facing the biggest defeat in midterm elections in the past 110 years, perhaps surpassing the modern record of a 74-seat gain set in 1922. Whether that literal political revolution comes to pass or not, Pelosi and Reid are taking no chances that they will not be obliterated and are looking to pass S.3815, the Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles Bill, S.3772, the Paycheck Fairness Bill S.510, the Food Safety Bill as well as any other bills they can sneak though Congress as the lamest ducks in history.

Deceptive practices have become as commonplace in this Congress and White House as President Obama’s best friend, his trusty teleprompter without which he can’t string 3 sentences together without fouling them up.

The latest congressional outrage came today with Senate passage of the “banking bill” which is as much about payback to special interests as it is about banking. The latest White House outrage came last week with the recess appointment of Dr. Donald Berwick as Obama’s Obamacare Czar.

Question: When Is a Banking Bill Not a Banking Bill? Answer: When it becomes a Social Welfare Reform Bill.

Cobbled together over a year under the direction of Democrat Sen. Chris Dodd and Democrat Rep. Barney Frank, the 2300 or 2400 page–no one seems to have counted the pages or read the thing–”monstrosity” was largely crafted by those two principals who also happen to be two of the prime unindicted criminals in the near-collapse of the banking system.

With no new regulation or oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the 2 quasi-governmental bodies most responsible for that near-collapse, the bill squeaked through on a 60-39 vote thanks to the abdication of three Senate RINOs, Brown, Collins, and Snowe.

Obama is sure to sign the bill in short order . . .

America’s Elitists and Obamacare

Ever get the feeling that those people in Congress just don’t get it?

I don’t just mean they don’t get the idea of why they are there in the first place, to represent their various constituencies and to create legislation that serves the best interests of the nation. They surely don’t get that.

I mean that, for the most part, although they technically represent us, they seem different, above it all, as if they exist in another sphere, on another plane.

Every two or six years they descend to the commoners’ level to troll for votes from the democratic masses, when they rub elbows with the hoi polloi, glad-hand some few select constituents, bestow uninvited, germ-laden kisses on a few babies to demonstrate they’re just your average guys and gals, and then probably lather on the Purell and gargle Listerine after they’re ushered into their limos.

Infatuated with wealth, F. Scott Fitzgerald famously said, “The rich are different from you and me” to his sometimes buddy Ernest Hemingway who gently corrected him with the rejoinder, “Yes, they have more money.”

Both writers were correct.

With some few exceptions, our elected leaders also have more money than the rest of us and, yes, they are different from you and me as a result.

Recently, CNBC featured a slideshow report on “The Richest Members of the US Congress” based on research conducted by the Center for Responsive Politics which determined that there were 237 millionaires in Congress, out of 435 members of the House and 100 senators: http://bit.ly/1ficst

My math-challenged brain computes that 44.3% of our D.C. representatives have a net worth above 7 figures, many vastly above 7 figures, a few well above 9 digits. Of the remaining 298 congresspeople, I think it would be fair to guesstimate . . .

(Third in a series in recognition of New York City’s “Gay Pride Week”)

I think most of us believe in the axiom of live and let live, in the plaintive cry of Rodney King’s, “Why can’t we all just get along?”

I’m all for that, as long as we’re not expected to gather for a group hug and sing “Kumbayah,” and with another notable exception. When others trample on our rights, on our liberties, on our values, on our free expression of our beliefs then, no, we can’t all just get along until they cease and desist.

The Congress of the United States is in the process of such a trampling, a veritable stomping, by virtue of a new “Hate Crimes Law” which, when passed and signed into the law of the land will become yet another nail in the coffin of America’s freedoms.

Just as most of us want to simply live and let live, most of us decry senseless hatred which is not what this bill is all about. What it’s all about, under the guise of making hatred a thought crime, which is absurd and bad enough, is an effort to control and prosecute free speech, which is unconstitional and also bad enough.

Sponsored by Rep. John Conyers, the “2009 Hate Crimes Bill,” HR 1913, takes thought crime and free speech prohibitions to a level inconceivable as little as six months ago. As one distinguished scholar interprets it, HR 1913 will unprecedentedly establish a preferred category of both victims and law breakers, based on sexual proclivities.

For the most part, homosexuals will be the trod-upon victims, heterosexuals the criminals. However, the good news is that only those heteros who dare to express an opinion, verbally or in writing, such as in this blog, could be prosecuted.

Anyone interested in reading the entire document will be accomplishing much more than our lawmakers do. They are inclined to vote into law bills they don’t bother to read, even multibillion dollar stimulus packages. That law covered a staggering 1588 pages and not a single legislator deigned to read it.

This proposed “hate bill” that will alter our lives, and our Constitution, is a piddling few pages but most of our leaders still won’t read it. It was passed by the House on April 29th and now officially identified as H.R.1913.RFS rests in the hands of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

That panel is chaired by Patrick Leahy and includes such Democrat notables as Arlen Specter, Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer. Feel free to guess how they will vote.

We the People Are Getting Screwed! (VIDEO)

This 6+ minute YouTube video is a relative oldie–as in 2 or 3 months–but still very much a goody.

It deals with the ongoing D.C., American, Obamian fiscal disaster although, oddly, it gives Obama a free ride on our economic trainwreck. What’s most chilling is that it pre-dated some of the more recent Washington fiscal madnesses.

In other words, things are much worse in mid-June than they were 3 months ago.

Nancy Pelosi and the Cult of the Left

There’s nothing wrong with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that a pre-frontal lobotomy, wouldn’t cure. That may be wishful thinking, however.

The first woman Speaker in America’s history, the first Italo-American, and the first Californian to serve in that post, in her first 3 1/2 months in office Pelosi has set back for decades the causes of women, Italian Americans, and Californians to be recognized as rational human beings.

Hold the brickbats! I was just trying to slur Pelosi half as much as she has slurred Americans in her short tenure. I firmly believe that it is far better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt but even if she stood mute, Pelosi could as well hide her Botox-addiction as she could hide her foolery.

I’m trying to rationalize What Makes Nancy Tick.

It could be due to her vainglory at presiding in the prestigious position as Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America which has gone to her head. It could be her cockiness arising from the fact she is one of the richest politicians in the land and yet a Democrat, a member of the “Party of the People.” It could be her awareness of the very scary thought that she sits two heartbeats from the presidency and that realization has warped whatever grey matter she started out with.

Whether due to her hubris, her personal wealth, terror, or sheer stupidity, Pelosi continues to outdo herself in craziness and lies. She must meditate on those lies on her long flights home to her palatial pad on Pacific Heights. As a pro-abortion “Catholic,” she must also reflect on that incongruity.

Or, maybe not.

Referred to by her many merciless but accurate detractors with such epithets as “Lady Crazy Eyes,” ”dumb as soap,” “Bella Pelosi,” and other less laudable and unprintable descriptions, Speaker Pelosi is now trying to deny she ever knew anything about waterboarding as a method to induce terrorists to spill their guts on which American cities will next be attacked. The Perving of America

With economic conditions in the nation being what they are, as Somali pirates stalk the high seas, as China threatens to pull the rug out from under our credit markets, as Islamic terrorists continue to plot yet another 9/11, America’s Congress has more important things on its mind: legalizing “philias.”

For the uninitiated, “philias” refers to every perversion known to mankind, including necrophilia and the very popular, internet favorite, pedophilia. Along with some 545 other “paraphilias,” the Senate of the United States is considering incorporating pedophilia in a new “hate crimes” bill: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/?pageId=97218.

Presumably, gerbilphiliacs would be afforded the most protection under that bill since it passed in the House of Representatives where doe-eyed Rep. Barney Frank rules supreme over wild-eyed Speaker Pelosi when it comes to matters of bestiality and other perversions.

The bill would effectively create a safe zone for perverts, violation of which would result in more severe penalties for any parent whose child had been raped who subsequently shreds the rapist and scatters his remains in a dung heap. Should such parent in the commission of said “hate crime” utter totally unacceptably negative words, such as, “You sick, perverted bastard!” his punishment by our federal authorities could be consignment to a prison in or near Barney Frank’s congressional district.

Initially, I thought this was just another urban legend. No way, thought I, naive I, could or would America’s ostensible leaders even contemplate such legislation. Then again, not being an Obamian, I must have forgotten that our new presidente preached change and voters bought into that change without Obama’s ever defining the specifics of his change.

I wonder how many of his supporters even contemplated changes that would alter the fabric of the nation’s moral core until it became a twisted mass. I suspect many did understand the changes Obama and his Congress had in store for us. I fear the mass of Obama supporters had no clue and, if not today, then not in the too distant future, will deeply regret their choice.

Then it may be too late and the damage may have already been done. The House bill was rammed though the House and passed by a vote of 249-175:(http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll223.xml) It now remains for the Senate to vote yea or nay on whether to endorse this call for congressional approbation of perversion.

One courageous Iowa congressman, Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, offered an amendment in committee that was very simple: “The term sexual orientation as used in this act or any amendments to this act does not include pedophilia.” Majority Democrats refused to accept it.

Hold onto your hats, people, and hold onto your kids. The Obama-Barney Frank changes are in process. Those of us who believe in morality and normality are under attack. One, perhaps the final hope on this front, is to speak up and tell your senators what you think about all this and do your bit for what you believe and for what you consider intellectually and morally repulsive.
