Progressive Education Malpractice
The sorry state of education in America has been documented ad nauseum in this space as have numerous stories of male and female teachers who have sexually violated underaged students. Other less sensational but almost equally disturbing activities are going on in Amerca’s schools and also demand attention.
Many public schools and school districts have been taken over by so-called progressives who have undermined the primary purposes of education by focusing on creating a false sense of self-esteem in students, accenting diversity and multiculturalism over teaching, and hiring liberal nicompoops.
The results have been failing schools, failing students, and declining standards and the situation is getting worse.
Out on the Left Coast, that bastion of unreconstructed liberalism, the Los Angeles United School District, where dropout rates average 20.3%, is considering a smoke and mirrors change in graduation requirements. (http://cbsloc.al/HZx3Kv)
Under the proposed changes, by 2016 all LA public high school students would be required to take and complete “advanced courses” including a third year of math plus two years of a foreign language with a minimum grade of “C” if they want to graduate and to prepare them for college-level courses, all admirable new standards but flawed even if they are implemented as proposed.
The fly in the education ointment is that under the plan, high schoolers would only be required to take 170 education units instead of the current 230 thereby reducing their course load by a whopping 26%.
The effective consequence of the innovations is that kids will learn significantly less and taxpayers will get less bang for their tax bucks while the LAUFSD can boast it is modernizing curriculum and discouraging dropouts.
The probabilities are that course standards will be lowered to assure students attain the coveted “C” grade and the dropout rate won’t be measurably reduced since failing, semi-literate kids still won’t be able to meet any challenging standards.

Anyone who believes life is simple and uncomplicated, who believes our world and national news and events aren’t always in flux, who believes the status quo will always be the status, must also regularly tune into Comedy Central liberal comedians Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart to find out what’s happening on our planet and its import.
Believe it or not, based on admittedly anecdotal experience, many moronic people do turn to Colbert and Stewart as well as to Barack Hussein Obama’s MSM for their news.
For those among us who are not brain-dead, a few clarifications:
. Allegations that Hillary Clinton’s vast right wing conspirators are dedicated to exposing extremist left wing electoral turpitude have been proven correct in the swing state of Florida. In a single district, amost a hundred illegal aliens were registered to vote in the general election in November. Lee County Supervisor of Elections Sharon Harrington said, “It could change the whole complexion of the election.”
Considering which candidate is the principal supporter of illegals’ “rights,” guessing they were planning to vote for Barack Hussein Obama would be a safe bet.
. Claims that polar bears have been suffering during our era of alleged global-warming and shrinking ice caps have, once again, been proven false. Actually, those bears are thriving and the ice caps have been frozen in place even in the Himalayas, despite experts.’ contentions in 2009 that they wouldn’t exist in 2035.
In lieu of those realities, we can be certain the purveyors of climate panic will soon revert to their seventies’ warnings of a new Ice Age as a fear-substitute in order to keep the world terrified and Al Gore’s wallet stuffed . . .

At the risk of taking issue with the Wall Street Journal’s Patton Dodd, I don’t think Denver Bronco’s Tim Tebow is “God’s Quarterback.” I don’t even know if God follows the NFL or if He cares much about football. I do know, however, that Tebow is a religious lightning rod and that much of the criticism surrounding him reflects more on his critics than on Tebow.
Dodd does provide a litany of the quarterback’s altruistic activities both at the University of Florida where he “re-shaped campus culture” and since he joined the Broncos as well as testimonials to his model behavior. Spending his summers working with the poor in the Phillipines and raising $340,000 for charity while a Gator were prefatory to establishing a charitable family foundation.
Dodd also notes a marked contrast between Tebow and the significant number of star athletes who have recently used their stardom, and wealth, to engage in criminal and anti-social–dare I say immoral?–conduct. Among others, he cites Tiger Woods, Plaxico Buress, and Michael Vick.
Neither his admirable qualities nor contrasts with less admirable athletes qualify Tebow qualify Tebow as a saint or God’s designated quarterback. Neither should they disqualify him from objective recognition of his accomplishments.
Tim Tebow is no Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, or Peyton Manning–not yet, anyway–but he has caused an unprecedented uproar in the sports world that has surpassed few previous uproars, and little of it relates to his athletic abilities.
True, his wobbly passes and unconventional proclivity to run the ball have drawn valid criticism from NFL opponents and sports writers who ostensibly ridicule only his wobblies and unconventionality. However, it’s really the God thing, Tebow’s public affirmations of his relgiosity, that seems to bug many in the wide world of sports.
This Sunday’s game with Tom Brady’s New England Patriots is being characterized as Tebow’s biggest challenge to date, with both the Broncos and the Patriots desperate for a victory and Tebow, not desparate after leading the Broncos to seven wins in the eight games he’s started, but entitled.
Tim Tebow is entitled to some respect in addition to recognition.
Whether or not Tebow pulls off another amazing comeback victory and takes his team to the playoffs, it’s doubtful he’ll get it. He just has too many liabilities. (Read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=10775.)

God and Obama
God and Obama
The nuns used to tell us we couldn’t understand God, information that wasn’t news to eight year olds since we often couldn’t understand the nuns, either.
Still, I eventually picked up on the concept that God was beyond understanding, much like arithmatic, and I accepted the principle of the existence of an Almighty Who, if He wasn’t watching every move we made or taking notes on every time I was impudent, was up there, somewhere, not taking written notes but aware.
Atheists aren’t beset by such mundane concerns since they don’t believe in the existence of any god, opting instead for the belief they and the universe weren’t created but rather are the products of happenstance. Chicken atheists, agnostics, believe only what Thomas the Doubting Apostle believed. They want proof, tantamount to insisting their Creator furnish irrefutable evidence of His existence before they subscribe.
Which brings us to Barack Hussein Obama and what he believes.
Few modern presidents have been overtly religious and many seem to have been “Christmas Christians,” men who visit churches on important occasions such as major religious holidays or for funerals of dignitaries.
Some, like Ike, hosted White House observances, others, like Bill Clinton, rarely if ever went to church and made no pretense of being regular attendees, and still others, notably Jimmy Carter, wore their religion on their sleeves right next to his incompetency pin.
None of this is meant to suggest that that a belief in God is a requisite for the position of president of the United States. It’s not mandated in the Constitution which was designed to permit any natural born citizen age 35 and up who has been a permanent resident for a minimum of 14 years to accede to the office of the presidency.
And, I’m not arguing the “birther” position with regard to Obama, though the jury is still out on that one, nor contending this chief executive’s penchant for vacationing overseas renders him ineligible for re-election because he’s still technically a permanent resident.
However, a president who has a clear aversion to references to Someone greater than he is should be questioned as to just exactly what he does believe.

The following was received as an email in 2010 and posted here with minor editing on September 11th, 2010. It hasn’t lost any of its significance. If anything, with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s decision to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 without allowing the presence of any clergy or the expression of any prayerful invocations, “Meet Me in the Stairwell” is more valuable than ever.

The Perils of Rick Perry
What do former President James Earl “Jimmy” Carter and current Texas Governor James Richard “Rick” Perry have in common?
Well, they’re both Protestants although Carter is a Baptist and Perry a Methodist. They’re both from the South, although Carter was a Deep Souther and Perry is a Southwesterner. They both served in the military, Carter in the Navy as a lieutenant, Perry in the Air Force as a captain. They have both been married to the same woman for a gazillion years.
As for their differences, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and was a failed president and is a bigger failure in his quest for a decent legacy in his post-presidency. Carter is an unreconstructed liberal and Perry a committed conservative. Perry has been a wildly popular, successful three term governor, and he terrifies Barack Hussein Obama and the Democrats because he represents everything Obama isn’t and threatens everything they have wrought for the past 31 months.
They needn’t fear Perry since, as of now, he hasn’t declared for the Republican nomination for the presidency in 2012.
Nevertheless, true to form and recent tradition, Perry has already been the object of pre-emptive attacks by Obama’s hatchet men (and women) in the mainstream media on virtually every issue he has supported and for every value to which he subscribes.
A pro-life, fiscal and social conservative Christian, Perry opposes same-sex marriage, all of which positions would be considered more than sufficient reasons to arouse the ire of America’s pro-abortion, pro-taxation, pro-atheistic, anti-Christian Left. He compounds that ire by supporting the State of Israel, a policy anathema to liberals who favor Palestinian rights and all things Muslim.
Demonstrating an amazing hypocrisy, the Left has gone so far as to ridicule Perry based on his less than stellar undergraduate grades at Texas A&M. His transcripts were somehow obtained by one of Obama’s staunchest lackeys, the HuffingtonPost.com via an unnamed source and reputedly show he had a number of “C” and “D” grades, in addition to a few “A’s.”
HuffPo made no reference in its story on Perry’s grades to Obama’s refusal to disclose his Columbia University transcripts but did find space to print a conveniently-unsubstantiated comment by another–or the same?–source who allegedly said of Perry, “This was not the brightest guy around. We always kind of laughed. He was always kind of a joke.” (http://huff.to/qXGesb)
Perry has also been criticized for switching political parties. He was originally a Democrat and switched to Republican apparently for the same reason Ronald Reagan did. As Reagan once said, he didn’t leave the Democrat Party, it left him. That puts Rick Perry in excellent company.
However, what sticks in the liberal craw most and will no doubt be their prime future focus should he choose to run next year are not his political, social, or fiscal views, his previous party affiliation or grades. Rather, his adamantly-Christian religious views which he proudly wears on his sleeve and publicly professes from the podium will be used in an attempt to disqualify him. . .

Sometimes in the topsy-turvy world in which we live it becomes easy to believe in a Prime Mover, a Creator Who set the universe in motion and Who then sat back, detached from it all, and let us do our thing. That may be the case but recent political developments may suggest He had His hand in the mix.
(That’s a vast overstatement since He also gave us Obama but it’s nice to think, anyway.)
What happened to Rahm Emanuel in Chicago on Monday was even worse than what happened to Chicago on Sunday when the Packers beat the Bears 21-14. For the Bears, there’s always next year for another shot at the Super Bowl. For Rahm, he was left stewing in his fish heads and regretting he ever left the cozy confines of his Chief of Staff office in the White House.
On Monday, the Cook County Appellate Court by a vote of 2-1 threw Emanuel off the ballot for the upcoming Chicago mayoralty election for failure to meet residency requirements for the office. Later, adding an exclamation mark to that decision, the Chicago Board of Elections ordered two million Rahm-less ballots for Election Day.
Team Emanuel immediately announced an intent to appeal the Appellates to get their boy back in contention for that big chunk of Chicago pie that is the mayor’s office with all its perks and patronage and corruption: http://tiny.cc/tpe94
God’s hand or no, what made the Rahm-dump even sweeter was that it followed by less than 3 months Illinois voters turning over the old senate seat of their adopted son, Barack, to Republicans.
Also recently sweet was MSNBC’s finally counting out Keith Olbermann’s “Countdown.” . . .

Stephen William Hawking is many things.
Theoretical physicist, cosmologist, astrophysicist, best-selling author, divorced from his second wife and father of three with three grandchildren, British recipient of America’s Presidential Medal of Freedom, (Retired) Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, Hawking is celebrated as one of the most brilliant men alive, if not the most brilliant man alive, if not the most brilliant man who has ever lived. He was the first to theorize Hawking Radiation emitted by Black Holes in the universe and has more degrees and awards, and fans, than one can count.
Amazingly, despite having contracted crippling neuro-muscular dystrophy, a form of ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease in his 20′s, at 68, he continues to think deeply, write prodigiously, and actively publish his thoughts.
Being a dolt, I shouldn’t comment on Hawking’s many accomplishments but some of his publicized views and opinions of late have to be termed, at the minimum odd, at the extreme, bizarre.
It comes down to the question, Do we continue to take seriously even a deep thinker with an I.Q. said to be in the area of 160 when he begins to contradict himself and to publicize his unsubstantiated and bizarre reflections? Also, should we take seriously mathematical-scientific geniuses–such as Einstein or Hawking–when they make theological observations?
One recent bizarre Hawking comment concerned aliens. He wasn’t referring to Mexican illegals but to the extraterrestrial, ET, type. . .

The Democrat War on the Christian God, Part III
. . . To many on the Left, Barack Obama “is sort of God.” I didn’t manufacture that quote. They are the precise words articulated by noted Leftist, Evan Thomas, in an interview on Thrill-Up-His-Leg Matthews’ MSNBC.
To emphasize his skewed perspective, Thomas also dismisses Ronald Reagan as being “all about America,” as if that were a bad thing, at the same time he deifies Obama who shows “we are above all that now:” http://bit.ly/7pxDqf.
Thomas added that Obama “is gonna bring us all together.” That view was not evidenced by the Tea Parties, the raucous town hall meetings in August, the massive conservative March on Washington on September 12th, and the national divisiveness not seen since the Viet Nam War.
Thomas failed to mention all those demonstrations of godly togetherness achieved by our “national healer,” as the AP described Obama on November 10th.
One has to wonder “upon what meat doth this our media feed,” as Shakespeare might say, that they are leading the charge against country and God?
The New York Times’ Nicholas D. Kristof, subbing for the insufferable Paul Krugman, provided a clue in his 2003 article, “God, Satan and the Media.”
He begins with the preposterous assertion that, “Claims that the news media form a vast liberal conspiracy strike me as utterly unconvincing.” He then concedes that ”nearly all of us in the news business are completely out of touch with a group that includes 46 percent of Americans. . . evangelical or born-again Christians.”
Kristof thereby reinforced . . .

The Democrat War on the Christian God
“Christian God?” You mean there are other Gods?
Of course not, unless we include the multiple pagan gods, the god of Mammon, the god of Hollywood, Michael Jackson, et al.
We could say the Democratic Party is at war with the Judeo-Christian God, which is the same God, but that construct wouldn’t be precisely true either since their war rarely encompasses Judaism’s Yahweh–nor Islam’s Allah, nor polytheistic major and minor deities.
The reason for the Democrat’s war is fairly obvious: Having devolved into an irrelegious political party catering to a predominantly irrelegious and faithless consituency, Democrats must give that constituency its undivided attention.
Dominated by those who favor elimination of any mention of God in a nation founded on a belief in an Almighty Being, Democrats must ignore America’s history and focus on winning votes from the Great Unwashed.
America’s Left, Democrats, like to harp on the absence of the G-word, God, in the Constitution, suggesting that omission was deliberate and thereby implying the Founders planned on an atheistic nation.
What poppycock!
The issues of God’s “presence” in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and even in the Articles of Confederation are far too complex to be discussed here. I would instead refer the reader to “Where Is God in the Constitution, a FreeRepublic.com article:” http://bit.ly/49OZAf
Suffice to say, neither the Founders nor later lawmakers, and certainly not the mass of Americans, had any intent of excluding God from this nation, except in the minds of today’s Democrats. . .

Two Firings: Two Sad Signs of Our Times
As a cocky college kid working part time, I once told a supervisor at Met Life who was letting a bunch of us go that I’d been fired from better jobs than this, which may or may not have been true.
Getting fired, canned, dismissed, discharged, terminated, let go from a job, part or full time, is often a shot to the ego and and the wallet. Today, especially, it’s no joking matter since decent positions are hard to come by.
Getting fired, etc. for your religious beliefs at any time is even less a subject for jocularity.
Even if you’re working at Home Depot, not the ultimate career for most people, but, hey, a job is a job and a buck is a buck, a guy shouldn’t expect to be sent packing for wearing a pin.
However, college kid/cashier Trevor Keezor was canned for his pin which read, “One nation under God, indivisible,” which happen to be words excerpted from the Pledge of Allegiance. Said pin also featured the American flag, which may have offended some illegals at his Okeechobee, Florida Home Depot.
He merely wanted to express his sense of patriotism and support for his brother, a National Guardsman who was scheduled for his second tour in Iraq next month.
No, no, no, said Home Depot. We will tolerate none of that folderol! We may (or may not) concur with your sentiments but trash the pin or you’re gone to the unemployment line!
Trevor chose unemployment over surrendering his constitutional rights and love of country, and his support for his brother.
Company spokesman Craig Fishel contended Keezor had violated company policy and the Home Depot dress code by sporting the pin, which Keezor had worn for a year and a half before anyone noticed, or cared, or complained.
Perhaps what really precipitated the kid’s dismissal was his recent habit of toting his Bible to work and reading it on his lunch hour.
Either way, Trevor’s gone and won’t be able to ever again pollute Home Depot with his patriotic and God-loving fervor.
The good news is that he plans to sue on the basis of religious discrimination. The bad news is that the ACLU effectively said, “Fat chance” since a private corporation such as Home Depot is within its rights to disregard an American’s right to free speech and worship: http://bit.ly/4pAx8s.
Another notable canning occurred up in Barney Frank-land.

Ya Want Mercury With that?: The Washington Post reports on something pregnant women have known about for a good while.
They knew that they should avoid consuming fish and especially the garbage-eaters of the seas, shellfish, for fear of absorbing excessive amounts of mercury and damaging their pre-born babies: http://bit.ly/MJQf6.
Not mentioned by the Post is the fish future after billions of government-mandated, mercury-laden compact fluourescent light bulbs outlive their usefulness and are discarded and the mercury makes its way onto America’s dinner plates and into our central nervous systems.

MICHAEL NEWDOW RIDES AGAIN!
Michael Newdow Rides Again!
You really have to wonder about a guy who tells someone that his only child was the product of a date rape and he was the victim.
According to one source, http://www.nndb.com/people/981/000049834/, Michael “Newdow claims he was the victim of date rape, perpetrated by [the mother of the child, Sandra] Banning during a camping trip at Yosemite National Park. [Mikey declares] ‘I specifically said “no” multiple times before and during [sex]. Was I forced into being a father? Yeah.’ ”
That must make his daughter feel awfully warm and fuzzy to know that her daddy was raped by her mommy. When she gets a little older, she may begin to wonder how any guy can be forced to have sex with a woman in a public park. She may begin to have more respect for her mom but, as for her dad, she may wonder whether he’s a closet gay or just the world’s biggest wuss.
That awful experience, which I suggest is as honest and truthful as her daddy is, didn’t deter Mikey from filing a lawsuit–on her behalf. The poor, oppressed child was being forced to recite “The Pledge of Allegiance,” daily in her Sacramento school, including those foul words “under God,” and Mikey would have none of it and wasn’t going to tolerate that infringement on his child’s rights.
There was no evidence the child cared either way what she recited in school but Mikey went to court anyway, for her, of course, and not because he has been an atheist “since birth,” as he has said. Those two words, “under God,” represented an affront to his, to her, beliefs even though she had not be known to profess any antipathy to God or any commitment to atheism, like her dad.
The case was thrown out since Mikey, an absentee father as well as a physician with a law degree, had no legal standing since he didn’t have custody of the child.
Still undismayed, and obviously with a lot of time on his hands, he ploughed on...

D-DAY: 1944 vs 2008
FDR, PRAYER, GOD, D-DAY, TODAY
No matter what we may think of FDR—and what I think is ambivalent at best—the man had a soul and seemed to love his country. Same goes for JFK, along with a comparable ambivalence. However, this speech by FDR, delivered while the invasion of Normandy was in progress, stands in stark contrast with the thinking of too many of our leaders today.
That invasion didn’t take a day, of course. Dubbed “Operation Overlord,” it consisted of a great armada of some 7000 ships and landing craft, almost 200,000 allied naval personnel, 850,000 troops, of which 133,000 stormed the beaches on June 6th, 1944 and suffered over 10,000 casualties. A year of of bitter, bloody fighting ensued, culminating with the liberation of Paris on August 25th and the ultimate surrender of Nazi Germany eight months later. That mini-history lesson brings us back to FDR’s speech. A few excerpts:
“Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. . . They will need Thy blessings. . .
“Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom. . .
“With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. . . Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace — a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.
“Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen.”
I refuse to engage in partisan attacks on this the sixty-fourth anniversary of the beginning of the Normandy Invasion. Rather, I would point to where we were sixty-four years ago in terms of faith in our Judeo-Christian God, faith in our troops, faith in our country, and faith in our ourselves as a people and ask: How many of our leaders today could have written or spoken those inspirational words of FDR?
