The Myth of the Sensitive, Tolerant Liberal
A popular misconception created by liberals, is that those dastardly conservatives are mean, nasty, and intolerant. The truth is precisely the opposite.
Little surprises me about liberal insensitivity and intolerance anymore even though some things they say, write, and do shock the conscience of anyone with a modicum of decency.
They have exhibited their true colors over the years, among other exhibitions castigating Sarah Palin for bearing in lieu of aborting her youngest child, calling Laura Ingraham a “talk slut,” ceaseless fat jokes about Chris Christie, and on and on and on.
However, nothing has better exposed liberals-leftists-Democrats for what they are than more recent examples of crude, insensitive intolerance toward Rick Santorum.
Following in the footsteps of such libs as Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Bill Maher et al., political commentator Alan Colmes feels free to launch viciously outrageous ad hominem salvos at conservatives and, like his fellow bomb-throwers, gets away with it.
Last Monday, Colmes’ hurled his latest insult at GOP presidential contender Santorum during a Fox News segment when he predicted the former Pennsylvania senator’s Iowa surge wouldn’t last.
That evaluation was reasonable though incorrect, the basis for his view was unreasonable and downright nasty.
Colmes speculated that voters would turn on Santorum as soon as they “get a load of some of the crazy things he’s said and done, like taking his two-hour-old baby when it died right after childbirth home and played with it so that his other children would know that the child was real.”
Rich Lowry rightly and promptly jumped all over Colmes for his “cheap shot” in disgracefully impugning both Santorum and his family and misinterpreting Santorum’s actions after the premature birth and sadly-abbreviated two-hour lifespan of baby Gabriel Santorum in 1996.
As John Hayward opined on HumanEvents.com, Colmes’ comment “wasn’t a random slip of the tongue” and was planned to demonstrate how proudly astute he is. Hayward observed that, “For an ostensibly ‘tolerant liberal,’ Colmes is deeply, disturbingly obsessed with cultivating intolerance for this unusual act of devotion.”
“Ostensibly” is the key word. For liberals, sensitivity and tolerance are reserved for people who would have aborted Gabriel instead of attempting to save his life.
That same twisted, restricted sense of “tolerance” extends to how liberals in the mainstream media in America and abroad react to expressions of Muslim faith as opposed to comparable Christian observances.
Basically in the liberal nutshell: Christians bad, Muslims good.
Denver Broncos’ quarterback, Tim Tebow, has been lambasted, ridiculed, and abused for what is termed, Tebowing, i.e. kneeling to thank God for his good fortune. Tebow, a committed Christian, pro-life, decent guy–all of which characteristics rankle liberals–feels it is his right and duty to publicly demonstrate his faith . . . The Atheist War on Christmas and Christians Goes Asian
Just when it looked as if the annual War on Christmas was showing signs the good guys were winning, the other side pops up and does something stupidly outrageous to demonstrate how stupid and outrageous they are.
Admittedly, the positive signs that Christians were winning were minimal in the first place but when the head of the Catholic Defense League, Bill Donohue, sees room for optimism there has to be some hope. Then there’s the unfortunate reality that, hope or not, the War on Christmas is still raging across the land–and across the Pacific Ocean.
Invariably, the forces of darkness are led by nihilistic atheists, domestic and foreign, dedicated to little else but negativism.
Personally, I don’t care if someone is an atheist and worships old socks, pink gerbils, or the almighty dollar instead of the Almighty. However, in a nation in which 96% of the population celebrates Christmas, actively campaigning against December 25th as either a holiday or a holy day is an intolerable, un-American annoyance.
It’s also an infringement on the First Amendment’s guarantees of freedom of religion and free speech.
Out on the Left Coast, a 57 year old Christmas tradition is being attacked by the usual horde of atheists employing an unusually subtle yet still pernicious tactic, gobbling up most of alloted public spaces to celebrate the winter solstice instead of Christmas.
For those fifty seven years, a group of churches in Santa Monica has traditionally erected 14 life-size displays depicting a variety of Nativity. This year, they are reduced to two, the other spaces alloted to out of town atheists who have filled two “solstice greetings” spots ranting against religion while monopolizing a total of 18.
In government courts, that should be considered an illegal restraint of religion and of a national holiday.
Hunter Jameson, a spokesperson for the churches, contends what the atheists are doing smacks of collusion and “that these new applicants have been working together to displace and push out the Nativity scenes from the park, rather than erecting a full display of their own.” (http://tiny.cc/0s9uj)
There’s no smacking involved at all. It’s just another battle in the American atheist War on Christmas.
Reflecting the truism that wars tend to widen, battles in that war have now spread to the Korean Peninsula.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), where people are so poor and desperate they are known to eat the bark off trees, the atheistic, Communist leaders have taken great umbrage over their slaves viewing Christmas trees in the prosperous and actually democratic Republic of Korea (ROK). . . Explicating Pat Buchanan's "Suicide"
Pat Buchanan, former presidential candidate, adviser to Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Reagan, prolific author, and paleoconservative political commentator, knows whereof he speaks and writes. He has written a new book, a book deeply-disturbing to anyone who loves the United States of America and fears for our future.
Titled, Suicide of a Superpower, its subtitle, the question, Will America Survive to 2025? is even more disconcerting.
Scheduled to be officially released by Macmillan on October 18th, Drudge.com obtained a pre-publication copy of Suicide and outlined its contents which are not for the fainthearted. Or, for those smugly confident that, since America is the only superpower now and since we are the richest, most potent force on the planet, we will always be.
To anyone who has closely followed international and national developments over the course of the past few decades and especially of the last three years or even to casual observers, what Buchanan coalesces in the 496 pages of Suicide will strike many chords.
All the chords lead to the inexorable conclusion that the days of America’s greatness, if not to our days of existence as a nation, are numbered with very few numbers.
The Muslim world, which at this juncture stands to inherit what remains of Western civilization, will love Buchanan’s book. So, too, will the Left, which has been working tirelessly for decades to destroy the foundations of that civilization.
A few of the points noted by Buchanan, with this writer’s bracketed observations:
. We have created an totally dependent underclass ”who cannot cope” and who rely on government to provide their daily necessities. [I would add that they also cannot think. Testimony to both is the burgeoning welfare and food stamp programs and the fact that over 40% of Americans still support President Barack Hussein Obama.]
. Successful efforts to “de-Christianize” America and Europe “will prove culturally and socially suicidal,” as will the disintegration of Catholic schools and the abandonment by Catholic colleges and universities of Catholic principles on such issues as abortion. [Buchanan, a Roman Catholic, is right on the mark, not because Christians or Catholics are flawless but because ours was a Christian nation from its inception and because Catholics have been the primary advocates for the central moral issue of our time, the sanctity of life.]

Disgraceful Gay Bashing!
I recently came across an outrageous article.
Excerpts from “Christians Mock Gays at Shocking Easter Service:” ”Thousands of Christians gathered for an outdoor Easter Sunday service in San Francisco to publicly mock gays and humiliate gay heroes. The flagrant attack, which included skits, obscenities and impersonations satirizing gays and gay stereotypes, sent shockwaves of outrage and disgust throughout the region and across the nation. This report features photo and video documentation of the free public Easter service, which was attended by a majority of Christians in the city, who laughed at and insulted gays and the homosexual community.”
What follows is a series of pictures, one more disgusting than the next.
One was captioned, “Thousands of Christians make fun of gay stereotypes by dressing up as gays in Mission Dolores Park as they watch an anti-gay religious service and performance,” another showed “One of the Christian performers [parading] around nude on stage, in an attempt to make gays look bad,” a third depicted “Another Christian [satirizing] gay behavior by standing on his head and displaying his anus to the crowd.”
None of the above is real although the pictures are all too real as are the captions. They are all disturbing examples of gay bashing, more precisely, bashing by and not bashing of, homosexuals. . .

So, enjoy your finery, your bunnies, eggs, jellybeans, chocolate, or even those PC spring spheres. However, as with Christmas, it would be good to remember that there’s a reason for the season.

Perhaps the worst was the witless, masculinity-challenged Bill Maher “joking how the Catholic Church should ‘go gay’ and chant ‘We’re here, we’re queer, get Eucharist’ and . . . ‘Jerry Springer: The Opera’ that mocked the ‘little biscuit’ of a genital-fondling Jesus character who admitted he was ‘a little bit gay:’ ” http://tiny.cc/qggoa
The consequences of comparable desecrations committed against Mohammed or insults directed at Islam and Muslims are almost beyond imagining. For that matter, abusing the sacred tenets of Jews or Buddhists or Hindus is not just beyond imagining, it’s unheard of.

Christmas: Billboards, Atheists, and Public Schools
They’re baaack! No, not the seventeen year locusts but a worse blight, the blight of the anti-Christians which at this time of year takes the form of the annual assault on Christmas. And they are far more destructive than any locusts.
The first nationally-known emergence of the annual event was detected at the New Jersey end of the Lincoln Tunnel.
The obviously well-heeled if not even moderately-healed group, American Atheists, got together some big bucks to erect a billboard on US495 announcing in bold letters that any first grader could read just before Christmas that, “You KNOW It’s a Myth,” and suggesting to first graders and anyone else in the New York vicinity who could read basic English that, “This Season, Celebrate Reason!” in lieu of the Christmas season.
I have to say that the billboard represented very effective advertising for the American Atheists’ point of view. It is especially effective since the wording was supplemented by artwork depicting three camel-riding Wise Men approaching a brilliant star poised above a simple stable featuring a donkey and a lone, female figure: http://tiny.cc/bwco1
Masterful work, American Atheists, even if it is indicative of an odd mentality that gets off by destroying childhood innocence and delight.
Was that kneeling female, alone in the night, meant to suggest that her hubby had run off and left her to fend for herself, a scenario with which many New York area kids exiting the Lincoln Tunnel, could relate? Either way, the billboard was masterful–depending on one’s definition of mastery.
Those proud American Atheists may very well persuade some kids who view their billboard to ask their parents, “What does that sign mean?” and maybe convince a few others to start to think that their churches are liars, that their parents have been treating them as little fools for lo these many years, and that the light of truth really does reside in their public schools.
Teachers and administrators in America’s public schools, under the notoriously-godless guidance of the NEA and their local unions, whom they dare not defy, have long been in the vanguard of those who are trying to either eliminate the archaic tradition of Christmas from student lexicons or to reduce the “holiday” to the equivalent of Halloween or Arbor Day.

Christians and Jews and Muslims, Oh My!
“The United States of America is the only country in history to have defined itself as Judeo-Christian,” according to JewishWorldReview,com, which goes on to say, “That is why American coins feature these two messages: ‘In G-d we trust’ and ‘Liberty.’ “
I think the first statement above is untrue and the second, meant to distinguish us from Christian European nations, is a non-sequitur not logically derived from the first.
The “definition” of America as “Judeo-Christian” has a fairly recent history advanced by those who wish it were so. Trusting in a “Christian God” as well as believing in liberty were foundational concepts of our Revolution and in the establishment of our Constitution and are certainly not attributable to any Jewish influence.
Granted, the Founding Fathers were well aware of the Jewish heritage and of Christianity’s relationship to that heritage and many, including Franklin, Jefferson, and Madison, were Deists or dabblers in Deism. Deism, the popular monotheistic, religious fad of the Age of Enlightenment held that God was some detached ”Supreme Architect” of the universe rather than an involved Supreme Being, a Prime Mover not a personal God.

This is all relevant today, two and a quarter centuries later, as our president, an ambivalent Christian at best, is suspected of being a closet Muslim. If that in fact is true, he’s covered his tracks well, getting married and having his daughters christened in an ostensibly Christian church and, when his popularity plummetted and mid-term elections loomed, actually attending a D.C. church service.
Whether his trusty teleprompter was in the repair shop or he just felt flush from his recent bamboozling of the American people, Mr. Obama went to Muslim Turkey six months after his election and disabused the Turks and the world and America’s 225 million Christians of the notion that America was any longer a Christian nation. . .

“The United States of America is the only country in history to have defined itself as Judeo-Christian,” according to JewishWorldReview,com, which goes on to say, “That is why American coins feature these two messages: ‘In G-d we trust’ and ‘Liberty.’ “
I think the first statement above is untrue and the second, meant to distinguish us from Christian European nations, is a non-sequitur not logically derived from the first.
The “definition” of America as “Judeo-Christian” has a fairly recent history advanced by those who wish it were so. Trusting in a “Christian God” as well as believing in liberty were foundational concepts of our Revolution and in the establishment of our Constitution and are certainly not attributable to any Jewish influence.
Granted, the Founding Fathers were well aware of the Jewish heritage and of Christianity’s relationship to that heritage and many, including Franklin, Jefferson, and Madison, were Deists or dabblers in Deism. Deism, the popular monotheistic, religious fad of the Age of Enlightenment held that God was some detached ”Supreme Architect” of the universe rather than an involved Supreme Being, a Prime Mover not a personal God.

The Death of Christmas, Part II: Christian Complicity
In “The Death of Christmas, Part I,” I indulged myself with musings on the good old days when Christmastime was, well, Christmastime and not Happy Holidays-time or Wondrous Winter Wonderland-time.
Public school high school and middle school musicals in those days of yore customarily presented Christmas shows in Decembers back then, reflecting the interests of students and their parental, and grandparental, units.
That’s a thing of the past, one more tradition tossed under the bus of political correctness and the new secularism sweeping the country.
And those prime but not exclusive celebrants of Christmas are as responsible as anyone else for this “revolting turn of events,” to quote from an old radio/tv show, “The Life Of Riley.”
Some of us prefer to carp about the secularization of December 25th and yet do nothing to change things.
Others, such as audiences at those “Winter Concerts” devoid of any reference to Christmas, applaud politely and listlessly in disappointment at the musical fare presented and they too do diddlyjacksquat to insist the presenters hark back to tradition.
Nor do most of us object to borderline and cross-borderline sacriligious and merely-inappropriate goings on in our society.
Those carpers, those all-too-tolerant Christmas celebrants who accept the new status quo, are as complicit in the death of Christmas as the secularists, the mockers, the retailers, and the Obama administration.
This Christmas season’s latest affronts to Christian beliefs include these “comical” representations of the birth of Jesus Christ attended by a dinosaur and a sultry Mother of God, Mary: http://bit.ly/7Gql29
All very amusing to secularists, all very blasphemous to practicing Christians who nevertheless tolerate it.
Further insult to Christian injury was added by the White House’s decision, since rescinded, to do away with the Christmas creche in the White House.
The reason for the recission seems to have been a rare grassroots objection. Obama is very attuned to grassroots, aka voters.
It was originally decided by Obama, Rahm Emanuel, and other Obamians to dispense with the traditional display of an eighteenth century creche in the East Room:
“White House social secretary Desiree Rogers revealed to The New York Times that the Obamas were planning a “non-religious” Christmas for the “people’s house,” on the basis that Christians are responsible for the secularization of our national and religious festivity: http://bit.ly/8S08aL
Precisely what “people” Rogers had in mind is unclear, considering that Christians in America constitute at least 76% of the population. . .

The Death of Christmas, Part I
I admit I go back awhile. (That’s a euphemism for getting old.)
As George Burns famously said, getting old ”beats the alternative.” I sometimes question that wisdom but I’ll let that thought go for now.
Age has a few benefits aside from Social Security, including the capacity to hearken back to the good old days when things were far from perfect but still a damned sight better than they are today in almost every way, except maybe for the blogosphere.
I was recently reminded of those pretty good old days, not of the Harding Era but of a generation or so ago, maybe a quarter century back.
I understand that our younguns may consider that to be ancient history and in a sense it was ancient, the Reagan Era, a time when tradition and family values meant something and most of America felt a new pride in itself and a strong hope for the future.
One tradition of that bygone age was the annual Christmas Shows in our public high schools and junior highs.
That’s what they were really called, disbelievers, before they devolved into the “Winter Shows,” “Winterfests,” “Holiday Shows,” or whatever other secular title is applied today.
This was the time when my now-grown kids attended and performed in those always-festive, always entertaining presentations.
As was proper in public secondary school venues, those annual events didn’t feature strictly Christian religious song and music, although orchestral renditions of “Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem” and choruses singing “Silent Night” were not unheard of.
They were generously supplemented by more secular but still Christmas-y fare.
The high school-level bands, orchestras, and choruses invariably concluded those Christmas pageants with moving renditions of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” during which past performers joined the newcomers onstage to sing and play their hearts out to the delight of a standing, applauding audience.
Readers may recall its final, stirring verse:
And He shall reign forever and ever,
|: King of kings! and Lord of lords!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
The “He” was the reason for the season but that was then. Those days are no more, at least on New York’s Long Island. This is now: . .

A Christmas Miscellany
There’s so much important news swirling about, it’s a challenge to try to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Obvious and irrelevant chaff is Chelsea’s engagement to the son of another criminal, the White House party crashers, John Gotti beating another rap, Tiger Woods and his various “transgressions,” and just about anything President Obama says.
However, there are significant things happening, even if they sometimes get lost in the news shuffle, and some relate to the Christmas season that is upon us:
. The Chrismas Comeback: After too many years of listening to the humbuggers’ relentless campaign to ban Christmas in favor of the generic Holidays, at least some retailers have gotten the message that, “Yes, Virginia, this IS a Christian country,” despite Barack Hussein’s protestations to the contrary.
Since before its inception, this Christian country has celebrated Christmas, not the winter solstice and, thanks to the silent majority finally rising up and advising Christmas pofiteers of that fact, Wal-mart, K-mart and Sears, among others have wakened up to smell the holly.

The Democrat War on the Christian God, Part III
. . . To many on the Left, Barack Obama “is sort of God.” I didn’t manufacture that quote. They are the precise words articulated by noted Leftist, Evan Thomas, in an interview on Thrill-Up-His-Leg Matthews’ MSNBC.
To emphasize his skewed perspective, Thomas also dismisses Ronald Reagan as being “all about America,” as if that were a bad thing, at the same time he deifies Obama who shows “we are above all that now:” http://bit.ly/7pxDqf.
Thomas added that Obama “is gonna bring us all together.” That view was not evidenced by the Tea Parties, the raucous town hall meetings in August, the massive conservative March on Washington on September 12th, and the national divisiveness not seen since the Viet Nam War.
Thomas failed to mention all those demonstrations of godly togetherness achieved by our “national healer,” as the AP described Obama on November 10th.
One has to wonder “upon what meat doth this our media feed,” as Shakespeare might say, that they are leading the charge against country and God?
The New York Times’ Nicholas D. Kristof, subbing for the insufferable Paul Krugman, provided a clue in his 2003 article, “God, Satan and the Media.”
He begins with the preposterous assertion that, “Claims that the news media form a vast liberal conspiracy strike me as utterly unconvincing.” He then concedes that ”nearly all of us in the news business are completely out of touch with a group that includes 46 percent of Americans. . . evangelical or born-again Christians.”
Kristof thereby reinforced . . .

The Democrat War on the Christian God
“Christian God?” You mean there are other Gods?
Of course not, unless we include the multiple pagan gods, the god of Mammon, the god of Hollywood, Michael Jackson, et al.
We could say the Democratic Party is at war with the Judeo-Christian God, which is the same God, but that construct wouldn’t be precisely true either since their war rarely encompasses Judaism’s Yahweh–nor Islam’s Allah, nor polytheistic major and minor deities.
The reason for the Democrat’s war is fairly obvious: Having devolved into an irrelegious political party catering to a predominantly irrelegious and faithless consituency, Democrats must give that constituency its undivided attention.
Dominated by those who favor elimination of any mention of God in a nation founded on a belief in an Almighty Being, Democrats must ignore America’s history and focus on winning votes from the Great Unwashed.
America’s Left, Democrats, like to harp on the absence of the G-word, God, in the Constitution, suggesting that omission was deliberate and thereby implying the Founders planned on an atheistic nation.
What poppycock!
The issues of God’s “presence” in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and even in the Articles of Confederation are far too complex to be discussed here. I would instead refer the reader to “Where Is God in the Constitution, a FreeRepublic.com article:” http://bit.ly/49OZAf
Suffice to say, neither the Founders nor later lawmakers, and certainly not the mass of Americans, had any intent of excluding God from this nation, except in the minds of today’s Democrats. . .

Persecution of Christians
Christians are persecuted by Muslims in many parts of the world, including in the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority. Though Christians made up 75% of the Bethlehem population 60 years ago, their numbers have declined to around 10% today. Christian residents flee Bethlehem by the hundreds every year due to intimidation, economic boycotts and violent acts committed against them by Muslim residents. Churches are frequent targets of attacks in many parts of the Middle East and Africa. In some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, churches are outlawed and Christian worship is banned. Up to 250 million Christians worldwide will face persecution and repression in 2007, simply for following Jesus Christ, according to the latest roundup of the world’s persecution hotspots by Release International.
