Abortion, in Russia and in Obamaland
According to Reuters, last July Russia went where the Obama administration dares not go on the issue of abortion. With a declining birth rate and one of the highest abortion rates in the world, the Russians mandated that abortion providers carry warnings of health risks in their advertisements.
Ironically, the now-defunct Union of Soviet Socialists Republics under Vladimir Lenin’s Bolsheviks was one of the first nations on the planet to legalize aborting pre-born babies in 1920. Ninety one years later, Russia is finally coming to the realization that abortion can be almost as harmful to women as it is to fetuses.
The administration of Barack Hussein Obama can evidently learn a few things about the “procedure” from the administration of Dmitry Medvedev and Vlad Putin: Abortion not only has terminal effects on the pre-born, it can have deleterious effects on the mothers who abort them.
The most pro-abortion American president in history, a distinction preceded by his record as the most pro-abortion United States senator during his two-year stint in that august body and his history as an Illinois state senator where he voted in favor of requiring that babies born during botched abortions be left to die, Obama hasn’t done or said much lately regarding abortion.
(See “Obama Flips OFF Babies, http://bit.ly/q4pHk3.)
Election 2012 is less than thirteen months away so he prefers to have his henchmen do his dirty work.
With America’s predominant abortionist posing as a “family planner,” Planned Parenthood of America, exposed as a fraud and its taxpayer funding under scrutiny by House of Representative Republicans, Obama’s henchmen are duly stressed and forced to execute his policies surreptitiously and cunningly.
Thus, they quietly ended a five year agreement with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the USCCB.
Catholics, of course, are notorious for staunchly holding to the principles that human life is sacred from the moment of conception and that abortion is an abomination but the agreement in question was irrelevant to those beliefs. Rather, the rescinded $19 million grant related to comprehensive services provided by the USCCB to assist sex trafficking victims–2700 since 2006–with food, clothing and access to medical care . . .

What's a Mother to Do? Part One: Dealing with International Green Hypocrites
What's a Mother to Do? Part One: Dealing with International Green Hypocrites
Perhaps I shoudn’t ask the question, “What’s a mother to do?” since I’m a father not a mother. However, a male colleague used to ask that question not as a query but as an expression of frustration as to what anyone can do in response to the conditions and state of the world today.
The short answer is that a mother, or father, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin, can’t do very much if anything but it’s nevertheless fulfilling to speculate on what we should do under certain sets of circumstances.
Would that we average joes and josies could do things, change things, or reverse things that, in our inexpert and humble opinions, called for doing, changing, or reversing based on a long-lost American skill and capacity, the application of common sense.
“Mother’s Commonsensical Solutions” will no doubt be attacked as everything from nonsensical and simplistic to naive and stupid but asi es la vida, tough apples. Readers are invited to offer better ideas.

The Katyn Curse
The Katyn Curse
Sixteen days after the Germans invaded Poland from the west, the U.S.S.R. invaded from the east, capturing tens of thousands of Poles including thousands of ethnic Polish military officers who were then interned in the Kozelsk POW camp, 12 miles west of Smolensk, Russia, in the Katyn forest.
In April, 1940, the executions by the NKVD began and when it was over, some 21,768 Poles were dead, including about 8,000 officers at Kozelsk as well as over 13,000 others of the Polish intelligentsia, police, industry leaders, landowners, lawyers, minor government officials, and priests. (Statistics taken from Wikipedia.)
It was for the 70th anniversary of that mass slaughter by Russian Communists that Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his entourage of 88 people from similar walks of life were traveling to Russia on a commemorative, mournful journey when their ancient Russian-built airliner crashed in thick fog, near the Katyn forest.
The irony of that crash, Polish elite of 2010 dying near the site of the murders of thousands of the Polish elite in 1940, is too rich to be overlooked.
As Poland entered a 2-week period of national mourning, Russian President Medvedev and Premier Putin expressed heartfelt sympathies for the Polish losses and speculation began that the elite passengers had insisted the pilot land the plane despite warnings not to do so in the fog.
All aboard, including the 88 passengers and 8 crew were killed on impact: http://bit.ly/cpJTQk
Without trying to mitigate the loss to Poland and to the Polish state . . .

9/11 Footnotes: Paranoiacs Have Enemies Too!
Lest anyone be misled by my previous column on 9/11, let’s be clear about the threats and dangers faced by the United States today: The perpetrators of the attacks on September 11th, 2001, the Islamic crazies, are only the most obvious of our enemies.
We have a slew of others.
Always reliable entrants on our enemies list is the former U.S.S.R. under the semi-detached leadership of Vlad Putin, former head of the KGB. Still chafing after the dissolution of its empire–thanks to Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II–and infused with oil revenues, Russia is doing its damnedest to regain a semblance of international power.
Its latest gambits include a secret meeting with Israel’s PM Netanyahu, http://bit.ly/xLR0f. Israel knows it no longer has a friend in the White House. What transpired at that meeting or meetings is unknown but we can be certain the subject was not America’s national security.
Practicing Bill Clinton’s triangulating, Putin also held a kissy-fest with Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, http://bit.ly/WFWCz, and Russia announced it wants to make nicer to a potentially-nuclear Iran: http://bit.ly/NadTC.
Then there’s the inscrutable Chinese. With our nation in hock to China up to and beyond our elbows, Washington knows China is in the catbird seat and is just waiting to pounce. It won’t necessarily pounce literally. China need only bide its time, wait for our economy to collapse under our debt burden, and call in its chits.
Meanwhile, China agitates “for the creation of a new currency to eventually replace the dollar as the world’s standard, proposing a sweeping overhaul of global finance that reflects developing nations’ growing unhappiness with the U.S. role in the world economy:” http://bit.ly/6dNmB.
Put more simply, China wants to bail on the dying corpse that is the U.S. dollar.
Out on the periphery of America’s enemies are Iran, North Korea, and Venezuela, all of whom would salivate at the thought of the end of the United States as a world power, an end achieved via violence or national or economic implosion.
Whatever works.
Further out on the periphery are too many nations and semi-nations to count, . . .

This Is News?
Ages ago, Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul, and Mary whined about where all the flowers had gone and asked the rhetorical question, “Oh, when will they ever learn?/ Oh, when will they ever learn?” Since it’s still only April in our very un-Gore-ishly cold country, a plenitude of flowers isn’t due for another month or so but their question in 2009 could very well be directed to the print media, news services, and our new president-in-training: When will they ever learn?
As American newspaper after American newspaper folds, succumbing to the powerful force of the internet, they say, while seemingly oblivious to the reality that millions of us neither believe their slanted reporting nor trust them as far as we can throw a newspaper delivery truck, they nevertheless continue to report the inconsequential and, most egregiously, their skewed version of “the news.” At the same time, reality keeps biting Obama on the arse but he too doesn’t seem in learning mode.
Cases in point:
The Associated Press believes that teenaged Bristol Palin’s romantic life constitutes a newsworthy story: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003950844. The highly-respected AP may next report that Bristol, who happens to be the daughter of the much-reviled governor of Alaska, has developed a nasty pimple or that Baby Tripp contracted a mild case of the croup. I can understand the need for variety in AP wires but do the editors there really believe teen romance, or lack thereof, constitutes “news,” per se? Bristol obviously made the mistake of hooking up with a loser who now craves a piece of the publicity pie. That’s as believable as the distinguished Associated Press making an issue of the rare instance of teen sex gone awry. Or could this be yet another effort to further tarnish Sarah Palin and her family?
As we shiver just going out for the paper in the morning on these expectedly balmy April days, our very astute leader, President Barack Hussein Obama has plans to relieve all our chills. His equally astute science adviser, “John Holdren told The Associated Press . . . that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays:” http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D97ECHLG1&show_article=1. The AP dutifully reported that bizarre scheme which was long ago debunked as reported here: http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=701. Since Obama notoriously keeps the Oval Office temperature at hothouse levels, he may not be aware that, Baby, it’s cold outside!
Undismayed by climate reality, Barack moved on to social matters and to demonstrate his commitment to transparency and objectivity nominated homosexual Harry Knox to his “faith-based minority council.” Mr. Knox, “a self-professed Christian who holds that the New Testament’s teaching that homosexual behavior is unnatural and wrong–which is found in St. Paul’s letter to the Romans–’is not true:’ ” http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=46263. Well, go figure! . . .
