Two Small Christmas Miracles
Every once in a great while, the public education community slips up and forgets its NEA-dictated politically correct liberalism.
It happened last year at a Long Island middle school awards ceremony when a soldier just back from Iraq was honored by allowing him to present a good citizenship citation to a student.
After being introduced and before he was able to make the presentation, the soldier was showered with appreciation by the 800-strong audience. They leapt to their collective feet to offer their own award for his service, a standing ovation that went on for minutes.
Teachers and school administrators in the district, which will not be identified to protect the innocent, were belatedly embarrassed into joining in.
Well, it happened again, this time at a concert–not a Christmas concert, of course, but rather a “winter concert”–at a high school in the same district where not only were America’s armed forces honored but Chistmas melodies, including religious-themed hymns, were performed and met with comparable approbation.
When the National Education Association gets wind of that combined patriotic/religious rebellion, heads will surely roll.
In the greater scheme of political correctness, neither the military tribute nor the celebration of Christmas were earth-shaking yet both represented a radical departure from the PC norm in the Long Island neck of the national woods. They furnished irrefutable proof that there is some hope for sanity in Democrat Lawn Guyland.
After the band director asked veterans and active duty members of the Navy, Army, Marines, and Air Force to stand at the appropriate moment, the Symphonic Band offered selections from the fight songs of all four branches of America’s military.
Unprompted, the audience enthusiastically applauded both the servicemen and women and “Anchors Aweigh,” “The Caisons Go Rolling Along,” “The Marines Hymn,” and “The U.S. Air Force.”
Pacifists in the audience must have been cringing.
The Festival Chorus then sang a rendition of Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time Is Here,” a cheery song about sleigh bells and snow flakes which could pass muster even with atheistic grinches. The festival choristers went overboard when they followed that innocuous holiday ditty with the gospel song, “Every Time I Feel the Spirit.”
Whatever was the chorus director thinking when he allowed public school kids to sing, “Ev’ry time I feel the spirit moving in my heart, I will pray. . .

Tebowing, a PC No-No
Tebowing, a PC No-No
“Tebowing” in the National Football League is unrelated to elbowing, kicking, or tackling. It’s an odd phenomenon inspired by the much-disparaged, much-admired, newly-designated starting Denver Bronco quarterback, Tim Tebow.
It seems Tim has a rare quirk for an NFL player. He feels he should publicly kneel on one knee in prayer to thank God when he accomplishes great things. Other, growing, phenomena are Tebow fans who have taken to emulating his quirk and media criticism by people disturbed by his overt Christian religiosity.
Tim Tebow may be a fan fave but he isn’t exactly a big favorite in the politically-correct community mainstream media which seem very uncomfortable with the facts he’s an unreconstructed evangelical Christian who isn’t embarrassed to admit it and because he doesn’t fit the MSM mold.
From his glory days as a Florida Gator, there was just something about the 2007 Heisman Award winner that many in the PC sports media couldn’t quite articulate. Well, they could but doing so would out them as anti-Christian bigots and they couldn’t very well admit that. Beginning with complaints over his evangelizing habit of posting biblical verses in eye black, they adopted various subterfuges to ridicule him instead.
The Denver Post took an oblique swipe at the wildly popular Tebow in an article not devoted to the quarterback as much as to what it called, “Tebow Inc.,” the successful family enterprise which markets a variety of products from a Christian perspective but which, according to the Post, revolves around “All Tim, all the time.”
The Post strongly implied “Team Tebow” serves to gratify Tim’s ego as well as charitable beneficiaries and suggested Kyle Orton became the Bronco backup to Tebow due mainly to “Tebow Mania” and not to any of his debatable skills on the field.
Before the 2011 NFL season began, CBSSports.com’s Gregg Doyel became especially exercised over Tebow’s innocuous remark that, “I’m relying as always on my faith.” A paraphrase of the comment might be that he simply meant he’s a religious guy who counts on his religion to guide and inspire him.
Not so to Doyel, who contended he really liked Tebow personally and is himself a churchgoer and, without mentioning the kneeling prayer, interpreted that profession of faith as something that “baffles” him and clear evidence that Tebow was guilty of blasphemy, a contemptuous irreverence toward God.
Without evincing any affection or Christian charity, Doyel did show he fails to understand the sin of blasphemy or the quarterback . . .

Politically Correcting Jackie O.
People are sometimes tough to pigeonhole. Their public personas and statements are often at variance with their private selves and thoughts and we usually don’t learn much about the latter.
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was such a person.
Mrs. Kennedy was one of the most beautiful, most beloved, and most discreet women ever to reign as First Lady of the United States. Properly deferring to her husband, she rarely if ever spoke out on controversial issues, as opposed to prior and succeeding graceless Democrat first ladies who have used their unelected positions as platforms to preach, harangue, and run for future office.
That is not to say Jackie didn’t hold strong opinions, she just didn’t air them.
Her views on a noted contemporary won’t get much airing or publicity since they don’t fit well with today’s mainstream media’s chronic case of political correctness and since her views contradict the prevailing attitudes toward an American “icon.” In a word, Jackie thought Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a “terrible” man, so terrible she couldn’t even look at his pictures.
That revelation is heard in long-shelved audio tapes, an “oral history,” which ABC’s Diane Sawyer is featuring on in a two-hour commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of Jack Kennedy’s inauguration as president.
In “Jacqueline Kennedy: In Her Own Words,” words spoken and audiotaped in interviews in 1964 which she insisted not be made public in her lifetime, Jackie expressed a number of opinions all of which will be thought-provoking, some of which aren’t politically correct in 2011.
The rumor mill is all agog over possibilities the tapes may include salacious material on the Kennedys’ private lives although that’s improbable considering Jackie’s demure nature. However, they surely will include her conviction that LBJ was complicit in the president’s murder which will become the major media focus on the tapes.
On the other hand, what will surely get little MSM play is Jackie’s distinctly negative comments on MLK since, well, that’s just not PC.
Among other things, Mrs. Kennedy said, ”I just can’t see a picture of Martin Luther King without thinking, you know, that man’s terrible. . ."

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise since we already have an affirmative action president but that misguided social policy has now become a really major issue: Marvel Comics has killed off Peter Parker, aka Spider Man, and replaced him with another alliterated superhero, person of color Miles Morales.
The good news for Spidey fans is that Parker only dies in Marvel’s Ultimates series but lives on in its standard series so comic book aficionados can still enjoy his exploits in the latter. The bad news is inherent in the question, Why did Marvel feel it necessary to have the Green Goblin kill poor Parker in any series and supplant him with Morales?
The only rational explanation–if reason is applicable with comic books–is that Parker, who had evolved over the years from a bumbling teenager through various transformations to college kid, teacher, and neurotic freelance adult photographer, suffered from a significant, contemporary liability: He was white.
The Spider Man franchise had prospered from its sketchy 1990 days through 2003 and was the inspiration for a multitude of plays, toys, Tobey McGuire movies, and its ultimate achievement, the disastrous, accident-prone Broadway musical, “Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark.”
In short, Peter Parker was a big moneymaker for Marvel. Why else but a shortage of melanin call him a wrap and turn over his fame to melanin-rich Miles Morales?
CBS inadvertently comments on the ratonale without providing a social context: ”Miles Morales is a half-black, half-Hispanic super-powered teen who gets into the hero game after being inspired by Parker’s death.” Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis elaborates with a few key observations: “He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view.”
Hmmm. Younger sells in our youth-oriented culture as do varied backgrounds in our increasingly diverse land and in those ways Miles makes sense. However, . . .

Atlanta Schools Killed Thousands of Egos
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation recently uncovered a systemic, systematic conspiracy by Atlanta teachers and administrators to misrepresent and falsely enhance the achievement of their students and usurp student rights to do their own cheating by changing answers on statewide tests and creating the illusion that both teachers and students were doing well.
The effort gained Atlanta’s Superintendent of Schools Beverly Hall wide national acclaim and accolades as an outstanding educational leader. After the cheating was revealed, she resigned in disgrace while still maintaining her innocence and ignorance of any wrongdoing.
Hall may have been ignorant but she is hardly innocent. Not unexpectedly, Hall pledged her “full cooperation” in the GBI investigation and provided none. (http://bit.ly/p6MPo5)
New details on the massive scandal involving 178 teachers and principals in 44 Atlanta public schools have now emerged.
Teachers not only altered student answers but deviously located slow students near better students during tests in order to facilitate cheating, thereby giving the teachers somewhat of a break from erasing all those incorrect answers. Cheating for their students also saved teachers from the onus of providing extra help for those struggling.
One of the accused teachers–82 have confessed–told investigators that Supt. Hall’s district was “run like the mob.” Another claimed, “Everybody was in fear. It is not that the teachers are bad people and want to do it. It is that they are scared.” Others ”complained to investigators that some students arrived at middle school reading at a first-grade level. But, they said, principals insisted those students had to pass their standardized tests. The Sad Disintegration of the Land of Saints and Scholars
Probably no other country in the Western hemisphere has undergone more profound changes in terms of national identity and moral degradation as a result of its eager participation in the European Union and last decade’s economic boom.
The Republic of Ireland, the Celtic Tiger of 1995-2008 with a growth rate as high as 9.4%, precipitously devolved from a mini-financial and high-tech power into a pathetic economic basket case with an unemployment rate of 14% by 2010.
Worse, Ireland wanted to play like the Big Boys and became a nation so obsessed with shedding its reputation as a step-child of the EU that it sank into a morass of massive spending, uncontrolled corruption, and political correctness which have virtually destroyed its national soul.
Those are serious charges although statistically-based and predicated on my status as an Irish-American and a fairly-frequent visitor to the Olde Sod over the last ten years, as well as someone who knew Ireland when it was still the old Ireland, before it hooked up with the rabble of Europe by adopting their liberal, free-wheeling, PC, soul-less social phlosophies.
Lot of good it got them in the long run.
Ireland’s latest demonstration that it has become a nation more concerned with being a full European, PC partner than with common sense is the announcement by the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan that he will institute a rule that 30 per cent of all election candidates must be women. . .

Despite the proven absurdity of the unwritten, unofficial, inequitable rules of political correctness by which America is forced to live, the agents of PC keep finding new ways to enforce it, some subtle, some blatant, all ridiculous.
One observer who has traced the history of political correctness calls it “cultural Marxism” and explains, “the name originated as something of a joke, literally in a comic strip, and we tend still to think of it as only half-serious. In fact, it’s deadly serious. It is the great disease of our century, the disease that has left tens of millions of people dead in Europe, in Russia, in China, indeed around the world. It is the disease of ideology. PC is not funny. PC is deadly serious.”
Academic Bill Lind elaborated: “For the first time in our history, Americans have to be fearful of what they say, of what they write, and of what they think. They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic:” http://bit.ly/bsNr2b
The only problem with Lind’s definition and explanation of PC, which is right on the money, is that he seems to think it’s not a joke whereas it is a joke, a pathetic, sick, and pernicious joke–on common sense. It rears its ugly head in virtually every venue, from schools to legislatures, to churches and emerges on the most unexpected occasions.
A form of thought crime, another reflection of Marxist mind manipulation publicized if not created by Orwell’s Big Brother, political correctness is also the philosophical basis for such crime. Society and law enforcement agencies now presume to read the minds of accused malefactors and determine, predicated on their perceptions of an accused evildoer’s infraction of PC rules, how to treat the accused commensurately.
Perhaps the best way to illustrate the irrational senselessness of political correctness is to cite a recent, seemingly innocuous example of its implementation, enforcement, in the sports world.
Kobe Bryant, star shooting guard for the NBA’s LA Lakers, escaped certain prosecution and probable jail time for the rape . . .

“Your mama so fat I took a picture of her last Christmas and it’s still printing.” “He is so fat, he shows up on radar.” “I know a lady that is so fat she has to wake up in sections.”
Guffaw, guffaw, guffaw.
Fat jokes, skinny jokes, gay jokes, black jokes. They’re all riotous–unless you’re fat, skinny, gay or black. They’re also not politically correct, especially today, especially with the P.C. elite such as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, which is why his cracking a fat joke about Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, is so repugnant and hypocritical.
The same man who felt a tingle running up his leg–twice–when in the company of candidate Barack Hussein Obama was chatting with MSNBC’s admitted socialist and, no doubt, another P.C. advocate, Chris O’Donnell on Matthews’ “Hardball.”
The 2 P.C. top honchos were discussing the late Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Mr. Tingles noted how Moynihan never attacked opponents on a personal basis and how he always stuck to the issues. O’Donnell chimed in and said Moynihan had vision and contrasted him with the visionless Christie, who also happens to be an arch-conservative. The socialist O’Donnell thought Moynihan would be “horrified” at Christie’s cancelling Jersey’s participation in the new multi-billion dollar tunnel boondoggle between New Jersey and New York.

Guffaw, guffaw, guffaw.
Fat jokes, skinny jokes, gay jokes, black jokes. They’re all riotous–unless you’re fat, skinny, gay or black. They’re also not politically correct, especially today, especially with the P.C. elite such as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, which is why his cracking a fat joke about Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, is so repugnant and hypocritical.
The same man who felt a tingle running up his leg–twice–when in the company of candidate Barack Hussein Obama was chatting with MSNBC’s admitted socialist and, no doubt, another P.C. advocate, Chris O’Donnell on Matthews’ “Hardball.”
The 2 P.C. top honchos were discussing the late Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Mr. Tingles noted how Moynihan never attacked opponents on a personal basis and how he always stuck to the issues. O’Donnell chimed in and said Moynihan had vision and contrasted him with the visionless Christie, who also happens to be an arch-conservative. The socialist O’Donnell thought Moynihan would be “horrified” at Christie’s cancelling Jersey’s participation in the new multi-billion dollar tunnel boondoggle between New Jersey and New York.

Dr. Laura, the N-Word, and P.C.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger, the liberal-turned-conservative talk/advice show hostess who admits on her blog that she “preaches, teaches, and nags about morals, values and ethics” is no stranger to controversy. However, she bit off much more than even she could possibly chew yesterday when she used the dreaded and verboten N-word on the air.
She not only used the word, the only word in the English language that is forbidden to be written, spoken, or even thought about throughout the vast expanse of the United States of America, she used it 11 times, 8 times with a black woman caller and 3 more following the call.
Although she was curt, as she often is, she wasn’t rude to the caller, who was married to a white man and had called for advice on how to deal with racial comments made in her presence by a neighbor and others. One racist comment that disturbed her dealt with, “How do black people think about doing this . . . or that,” which Dr. Laura didn’t perceive as racist but rather as an instance of hypersensitivity on the caller’s part.
She upset herself so much she was barely able to finish her show and shortly after the word hit the fan, she apologized on her blog: “I talk every day about doing the right thing. And yesterday, I did the wrong thing. I didn’t intend to hurt people, but I did. And that makes it the wrong thing to have done. I was attempting to make a philosophical point, and I articulated the “n” word all the way out - more than one time. And that was wrong. I’ll say it again - that was wrong.”
However,she wasn't wrong at all . . .

Political Correctness or Just Plain Dumbness?
When “Jerry Joseph” blew into the West Texas town of Odessa, the assumed disadvantaged youth was virtually adopted by the townspeople. Homeless, an orphan, alone in the world, new to America, “Jerry Joseph” tugged at the heartstrings of Odessa.
Armed with falsified identification papers, “Joseph” was taken in by the town, home to Permian Odessa, the subject high school of Friday Night Lights.
As it turned out, Odessa was also taken in by Guerdrich Montimere, “Jerry Joseph’s” true name, and Montimere wasn’t the 16 year old that he pretended to be but rather a 22 year old Haitian immigrant and naturalized citizen who had a twin brother named Guerdwin and a mother living in Florida.
Montimere had something else going for him besides his sad life: He could play basketball in sports-oriented Odessa.
Whether that was a factor or not–and it seems probable that it was–Montimere, ostensibly 16 but with the musculature of a fully matured man, played some great basketball for Permian in the year and a half he was in Odessa. His basketball coach, Danny Wright, treated him as his second son and Montimere took up residence in Wright’s home for a year, sleeping in the same room as his “other” son and in the same house as his young daughter.
Joseph/Montimere is now incarcerated in the Ector County jail, not for his deception but for statutory rape for which he faces 20 years.
What’s most bewildering about this whole story . . .
