Mayor Boomboom and His Berkeley Soulmates
Shakespeare said it first in Twelfth Night: “Some [people] are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.” At the risk of mortally wounding the immortal words of the Bard, “Some people and institutions presume to greatness, some achieve greatness on false pretenses, and some are simply hypocrites despite their achievements.”
The esteemed, liberal mayor of New York City, Michael Rubens Bloomberg, and the city of Berkeley, California, home to the ultra-liberal University of California at Berkeley, exemplify my Shakespearean mis-quotation.
Bloomberg, less than affectionately known in some quarters as Boomboom, is the mega-wealthy presidential/gubernatorial wannabe who wields his mayoral authority as if he were a king with divine rights as opposed to being the mayor who unethically usurped his current position by subverting New York’s term limits law.
One has to wonder what drives a multibillionaire who rose from relatively humble origins as a nice, Jewish boy in Boston to be so driven by an insatiable desire for power that he rules New York City as a virtual potentate brooking no opposition. One wonders only until one understands who and what Michael Bloomberg is, namely insatiably power hungry.
Democrat, Republican, Independent Bloomberg, his party affiliation dependent on the political climate winds blow, he is also known as the Nanny Mayor obsessed with supervising the lives of his subjects and dictating to them what they should and should not do, whether it be using too much salt or consuming excessive sugar or indulging in the filthy habit of tobacco smoking indoors, outdoors, in public parks, in the fields, in the hills, and on the beaches.
In his latest demonstration of who and what he is, Bloomberg reinforced his campaign against the Second Amendment, his tireless effort to strip honest, law-abiding citizens of the right to keep and bear arms so that dishonest, law-breaking criminals would have exclusive privilege to that right.
Long a proponent of “gun control” and ignoring statistics, the megalomaniacal Bloomberg has now embarked on a new campaign, ostensibly to “fix” the broken national gun check system. He has hired a truck, emblazoned with the news, “34 Americans Are Killed with Guns Every Day,” for a 2-month tour of the country: http://tiny.cc/jsb7n
Shamelessly capitalizing on the Tucson murders by a confirmed whacko in January, neither Boomboom nor his truck clarify that the bulk of those murders . . .

Next Weekend II: Friday, a Day Of Remembrance
Next Weekend, Part Two: Friday, a Day of Remembrance
(Part One reminded America that a massive march on Washington is scheduled for next Friday, a march designed to once again ignite the sleeping giant, the too-silent majority, to rise up and take back our country from the radical Leftists now running it–into the ground.
Part Two represents another reminder–of what could happen, again, if we fail to take our country back.)
The day preceding the March on Washington, Friday, September 11th, 2009, is a day that should forever be commemorated as the day on which America and all Americans were subjected to a horror exceeding any other horror visited on our nation in its 220 year history: September 11th, 2001.
That late summer day dawned with all that was good and true and beautiful in its clear skies in New York City, in Washington, D.C., and in Shanksville, PA. Regrettably, rarely can the good, the true, and the beautiful endure long on our fragile planet.
Collective memories tend to fade over years as the human psyche relegates to its recesses that which is disturbing, that which we would rather forget, that which we hope will not re-occur, and certainly not occur near us.
Unfortunately or not, that psychic tactic only affords a temporary, and perilous, self-delusion.
President Obama, America’s Delusionist in Chief, was still a lowly Illinois state senator in 2001, still a parishioner seated in a pew in Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church.
He may even have heard Jeremiah’s jeremiad concerning 9/11, you know, the one when he ranted that we deserved what we got that day, when he screamed, “God damn America!” and “America’s chickens have come home to roost.”
Obama may have skipped church that day or surely he would have stormed out, Michelle and the kids in tow.
And maybe not.
Suggestive of Barack/Barry’s missing the point of 9/11 and buying into Wright’s thesis, he now absurdly wants that date to be celebrated as some vague “day of service,” more aptly called, “Obama’s Plan to Desecrate 9/11:” http://bit.ly/agXaD.
That desecration, that violation of the sanctity of September 11th, is repugnant beyond imagining, except by those who consciously or unconsciously have already forgotten its meaning.
A scant eight years in our past, 9/11/2001 should not require reminders . . .

Mean-spirited Views on the UAW, Terrorists, & Cronkite
If what follows seems un-Christian and unforgiving, so be it.
UAW Woes: Times are tough in Detroit and wherever else United Auto Workers live or used to work. I have great empathy for anyone, UAW member or no, who have lost their jobs and who may never regain them.
The UAW people most probably will never get another job with the pay scales and bennies they reveled in at GM, Chrysler, and Ford.
Hourly pay in excess of $70, unrivalled health care, sick days, and pensions, right of refusal to transfer, 80% salary when they so refuse, even a UAW country club to help make their cares go away, were just the tip of the iceberg of life as an autoworker who typically earned his position by graduating high school.
The UAW knowingly drove their companies into bankruptcy with their rapacious demands and even then produced vehicles notorious for shoddy workmanship that all but begged the Japanese, Germans, and South Koreans to come on over and win the allegiance of the American car-buyer.
The foreigners obliged, eventually overcame the bloated aristocracy and over-indulged peons of the UAW and captured larger and larger slices of the American car-pie market. Then GM and Chrysler went bust and Ford is now treading water.
Undismayed, the companies turned to whom else but the guy they had bought in the last election and he paid them back. Obama gave GM to the UAW and helped give Chrysler to the Italians: http://bit.ly/7qZIy.
Recall the days not very far back when the judicious car-buyer was warned not to buy a vehicle which rolled off assembly lines on a Monday or Friday when subs filled in for the thousands of absent UAW members? Payback can be a bitch, but not always in the USA.
Times are tough all over but the UAW and the auto narons brought on their own plight. Many workers may end up repairing fridges or servicing Fiats but all can take solace in the knowledge that the American taxpayer bailed out their profligacy.
Even temporary victory must be sweet.
Terrorist Ultimata: Last week brought some distressing news. ”The Guantanamo war court stalled again overnight when the five men accused of the Sept 11 attacks refused to leave their cells for a hearing at the remote US base in Cuba. ”
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and his trusty comrades in arms, Ramzi Binalshibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali, Walid bin Attash and Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, are accused of conspiracy to murder civilians on September 11th, 2001 and have proudly admitted their responsibility. However, in a semi-final act of sheer contempt for America, they’re being un-cooperative.
Oh, really?
These (accused) dregs of humanity thought it all over and decided they will not make an appearance before an American court of justice? These (alleged) murderers of thousands of Americans chose not to attend their hearings unless they were permitted to make opening statements? These (suspected) terrorists are allowed to dictate their own terms?
Excuse me?
I don’t know who is more unbelievable in this farce. Is it the American government and prosecutors who entertained the thought of that boycott for more time than it took them to recover from guffawing or the snarling terrorists who sought to ridicule and abuse our justice system?
Since we can’t do this to those Americans, I suggest we shackle, muzzle, and drag the accused kicking and screaming beneath . . .

What’s It All About, Barryyy?
“Curiouser and curiouser,” said Alice concerning what she was witnessing in her Wonderland. Taking Alice’s linguistic lead, I would have to say I’m “confuseder and confuseder” over what’s going on in Obamaland, formerly America.
Perhaps it’s my naïveté or just my ignorance showing but I really can’t believe all that’s gone on in five short months.
Granted, I didn’t vote for the guy and I dislike his demeanor, his personality, and his arrogant obamatude, even as he bows and scrapes and apologizes for America to foreigners. I’ve had to try to re-think my feelings about my ongoing impressions of President Obama and what he’s doing to make sure I’m not reacting personally and that I’m at least trying to be objective.
After all, I didn’t vote for Carter or Clinton, either, but I never felt this gut fury that I feel toward Obama. (For the edification of the FBI, I’m not the violent type so please don’t come knocking at my door with guns blazing. I’ll probably be sleeping.)
Clinton was just a disturbed, prevaricating overachiever and Carter was patently and dangerously inept so maybe I just cut them some slack. The current guy isn’t just a disturbed, lying overachiever nor merely dangerously inept. He’s all of the above. Combined, that makes him a singular instance in the history of the presidency, and downright frightening.
Obama was already on record as The Man Who Will Go Down as the Multi-Trillion Dollar Deficit President who spread his tentacles throughout the land to socialize American industries and nationalize the banking sector unto himself.
He is the president who announced his intent to dictate pay levels for employees of American corporations and render them supplicants of Barney Frank and the tender mercies of the federal bureaucracy.
He is the president who is crusading to deprive Americans of their right to keep and bear ammunition, thereby make their constitutional right to keep and bear arms farcical.
He is the president who is in process of anointing ACORN and its Obama-worshippers/vote-fixers as American equivalents of Oliver Cromwell who will repress White American dissidents as brutally as Cromwell destroyed the Irish.
Consider a few of his most recent statements and actions and those of his minions who are nothing more than his functionaries. All are engaged in unprecedented, national power-grabbing, transparent efforts to alter our system of government and our national defense. Some things have to be transparent with this increasingly-opaque regime.
As President Obama said to his Hollywood lackeys, “You ain’t seen nothin’, yet.” I fear we haven’t.
The IG Capers: All chief executives are entitled to appoint their own people for significant and insignificant positions in their administrations.
However, Obama has gone beyond simply appointing tax cheats and other disreputables. He tipped his repressive hand by removing all semblance of checks and balances on the executive branch by firing anyone who dares to show some courage by exposing corruption. You may stay on the payroll, was the intimation, as long as you don’t out me and my comrades.
First was Gerald Walpin, the highly regarded and eminently qualified Inspector General with purview over AmeriCorps, who was dismissed for what Obama called being “confused” and “disoriented.” Coincidentally, this followed Walpin’s investigation and allegations of improprieties against an Obama supporter, Kevin Johnson: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-tc-nw-inspectors-0617-0618jun18,0,5718990.story.
Not content with firing Walpin, Obama, acting in defiance of the law mandating 30 days notice of such firings, engaged in character assassination with his comments, which made no reference to Lady MacBeth’s Michelle’s interest and involvement with AmeriCorps: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/16/obama-accuses-fired-inspector-general-americorps-confused-disoriented/.
If nothing smelled rotten in the State of Obama at that point, subsequent developments did. The acting IG of the International Trade Commission, Judith Gwynne, was sent packing as was the vaunted watchdog of the trillion dollar bank bailout, Neil Barofsky, when he too got too nosey.

The ABC Caper: The American Broadcasting Network earlier this week announced it will be relocating on June 24th to the friendly confines of the Obama White House to stage a one-sided “news” presentation of Obama’s health plan. Better labelled the Obama News Network, it followed up that announcement, after protests that dissenting opinions were being crushed by the OBN, by obstinately refusing to air even a paid 60 second opposition viewpoint.
The group Conservatives for Patients Rights request for a one-minute spot to was rejected by ONN.
In a statement objecting to ONN’s decision, Rick Scott, chairman of the aptly acronymed CPR, said, “Health care is an issue that touches every American and all potential pieces of legislation have carried a pricetag in excess of $1 trillion of taxpayers’ money. The American people deserve a healthy, robust debate on this issue: “http://drudgereport.com/flashaot1.htm.
There shalt not be any robust debate, in fact no debate at all. The CPR request sounded very reasonable to me but when you’re hell-bent on forcing another unpalatable trillion dollar bill down America’s throat, apparently censorship takes precedence over reasonable.
Harry and Louise, we need you to help stop this Thelma and Louise suicidal ride off a cliff with the mad hatter at the wheel! . . .

Kudos to Obama!
It isn’t often–indeed, I have never done it before–do I toss congratulations, and a deep-felt thanks, to our president-in-training, Barack Obama but when kudos are deserved they should be accorded.
On this Easter Sunday, Obama sent bunny hugs to the family of Captain Courageous Richard Phillips, skipper of the Maersk Alabama, by (apparently) authorizing four of our equally brave Navy Seals to rescue him from captivity by Muslim Somali pirates.
Of course, kudos should be spread around among Captain Phillips, the Seals, U.S. Naval Central Commander Vice Admiral Bill Gortney, the crew of the USS Bainbridge, and everyone else involved in the rescue effort. However, as Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, Obama deserves our plaudits.
Reports indicate that Captain Phillips heroically dove overboard from the small boat on which he was being held captive by the pirates who had tried to seize his ship, which was the second time within 3 days that he tried to escape. This time, Seal rescuers were at the ready and used the opportunity to stage an assault on his four Somali captors, killing three and capturing one in the ensuing firefight.
Vice Admiral Gortney “paid tribute to ‘an incredible team effort’ and said he was ‘extremely proud of the tireless efforts of all the men and women who made this rescue possible.’ ” President Obama chimed in by saying, “He was very pleased that Capt Phillips had been rescued and that his courage was a ‘model for all Americans.’ “
You can say that again, Mr. President! He added that “he was resolved to deal with the threat of piracy in the region:” http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7996087.stm.
We will have to see how that resolve plays out but as of now it must be admitted that Obama showed more gumption than anyone could have reasonably expected. Former President Jimmy Carter would probably have dithered, waffled, and negotiated for a year before screwing everything up. Fresh off his “Apology Tour” of Europe, Obama may have learned something, namely that sucking up and kissing ass only leads to loss of face, dignity, and national pride.
All in all, it was a commendable rescue on the part of everyone involved even if the message of dispatching naval warships and demonstrating that America still believes no one should try treading on us in the future may not immediately register with soul-less Islamic terrorists/pirates.
Let’s hope that if their acts of piracy on the high seas don’t cease, our president will summon up the additional gumption and emulate President Thomas Jefferson by sending our navy and marines to the shores of Mogadishu to wipe out piracy as Jefferson did on the shores of Tripoli.
May the good captain’s wife Andrea Phillips and all the rest of his family and friends enjoy a very Happy Easter! They deserve it.

GITMO: WAR AND REMEMBRANCE

As far as I can recall, no one ever said that war is fun. As far as I can recall, no one ever said that prisons should be fun places, either. Still, the Muslim prisoners being kept in Guantanamo have it pretty damned good especially considering why they are there–as terrorist suspects who not only despise America but who may have killed Americans and who, given the chance, would kill as many of our troops in Iraq as they could and perpetrate even more heinous atrocities on our soil.
We could house them and treat them in a Club Med atmosphere, accord them all the rights and privileges accorded our domestic prisoners, including law libraries, gym facilities, conjugal visits (i.e., sexual romps), etc. and then release them so they could continue their terrorist ways.
Instead, we merely provide, “basic supplies, such as clothing, towels, sheets, blankets, soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste.They also are given a copy of the Koran and three ‘culturally appropriate’ meals. Prayer rugs also are distributed, and a recorded call to prayer is broadcast five times a day.”
